trying to figure out how to make my neglected characters more relevant to the plot of my comic ._____.

screaming u used to be integral - how are u so useless?????

Every character is a match, and they start a specific kind of fire. The key is to find that specific situation where they light up and start shit. I've had multiple drop-in characters where I have to back off and stare at them and go, "But what is this for? What use is an 11-year-old street urchin? What even is he doing here? Was I out of my mind?" But that's because I was trying to use him to light character development for this guy over here, instead of this other guy over here, and, in fact, he's really good at getting them out of the house to explore the setting, which isn't character development at all.

Hell, it's even happened to a couple of the main ones. I thought I had a stereotypical flat love interest on my hands until I figured out how her brain worked and where she was competent, and flawed.

A lot of times, they grow into their roles, and you gotta be willing to grow with them. Maybe it's not working now, but that's 'cos they're heading somewhere with a new purpose. Sometimes a better one! And sometimes you gotta let 'em fade into the background for a little while and age like a homebrew kombucha. Just remember to keep checking back in so they don't turn on ya!

age em like a homebrew kombucha lmaooo

honestly they're aging like moldy onions. The characters come from a younger version of me that i have a hard time looking at. i say theyre irrelevant now but maybe embarrassment and shame are are coming up.

maybe, for the therapeutic potential i should keep them as they are...despite their moldiness. and dive into the feelings
