I checked my records and I started this puppet sometime in 2023. She only got wings just today! They were in my closet for months. I thought they were unfinished still, but they looked done so I stuck them on. I guess I was fussing over them too much. She still needs some hair styling and jewelry. This project is meant to essentially be a master work, deliberately over the top and incorporating as many of my skills as I can. You can see a video of her moving here.
A bunch of dragons I made recently! I made them using yarn under instead of yarn over. Here's a comparison using the same yarn, one yarn over and one yarn under. Can you tell which is which? I can't XD
The one on the right is the standard yarn over. Yarn under makes a more defined stitch and I like it, but it's not as different looking as I expected. Maybe because my tension is pretty high anyway, YU has higher tension on its own.
As an experiment, I've listed amigurumi phoenixes, and random-draw horses to my Etsy shop. If they get attention then more colors and styles will be made available. :)
I can tell I've lost a lot of ground treatment wise because I'm driven to a comfort-seeking behavior I didn't do all summer. Which is, my brain is convinced that if I make enough yarn things I'll feel better. Another blanket will help. Maybe some new gloves. I just need to make some little guys, that will fix me.
Wondering if I should make an Etsy listing for the amigurumi phoenixes. There's one for horses which is a random grab bag of different colors, but so far the phoenixes are all the same color (partly because I have an absurd amount of traffic cone orange yarn). But I do find the phoenixes fun to make and as soon as I find a burnt orange yarn that isn't smaller than the rest of the line there will be variations. And people seemed to really like the first phoenix.
I've always made use of dragon iconography, using them to represent resilience and determination. A phoenix rises from the ashes, but a dragon doesn't burn in the first place.
But I can't always be a dragon. Sometimes I do burn. And then I have to get back up again. Right now I need to get back up, so I decided to work on a phoenix pattern. I reckon a lot of y'all need to get back up too, so remember that even a tiny phoenix rises.
I have a huge vet bill to pay. Mochi, our ex-feral, started showing signs of tooth pain and wasn't eating much. I took him to the vet where it was discovered he was severely anemic, and positive for FIV and feline leukemia. The vet said she'd never seen a cat with those numbers still walking around. By the time we had the results (a matter of a day) his condition had declined to the point there was no option but to euthanize him. And then we had to get the other three cats tested for FeLV, because while there were no fights and therefore almost no chance of FIV, they did share food and water bowls and litter boxes. Thankfully the other three cats have tested negative, but there is still a bill of over $1000, and a lot of broken hearts.
I'm running a sale to pay as much of the bill as I can. It runs til November 9th, I may extend it if I can manage the work load but I can't guarantee it will be extended.
Sale is still going, and I'm extending it another week. The vet bill has been covered, but I still have to pay for normal things like groceries and tax season is soon.
