The Anthropology of You

@anthropologyofyou-blog / anthropologyofyou-blog.tumblr.com

Hi, I'm a student who is researching Tumblr in an anthropological context. Basically, I will be watching you all! Act natural, and if you have any questions, hit the ask box! You can email me at: tumblranthropology@gmail.com
Anonymous asked:

Before you started studying different blogs and behaviours on tumblr, did you have a blog? If not, Is tumblr how you thought it would be before you created one?

I did and still do have a blog. Sometimes its better to study something you already have knowledge of (/know how it works) because you sort of get a feel from it as an insider and also as an outsider. This blog has really changed my perspective on the way Tumblr works, which it one of the reasons the focus has shifted so many times during this research.

Anonymous asked:

are you going to contact everyone you follow or just certain people?

Everyone who liked the volunteer post. Alternatively send me a message to let me know you are interested

Anonymous asked:

What about the anime fandoms? :3 Otaku's and all those people?

I don't know an awful lot about them to be honest. Would you like to guide me?

i don't understand why people screenshot a popular post to get notes. like, im pretty sure that it would have taken less time to click reblog and add to the 200k notes instead of taking a screen shot and adding a witty comment. when there is a series of text posts, or even a comparison i can understand and see the humour. but 1 post? no. just no.

im really happy i got picked for something :D

I'm glad that I have contributed to your happiness

Hey, will we be able to read (at least excerpts of) your study eventually? Linguistic anthropology is more my alley but your work sounds really rad.

Oh yes sure. I'm just finalising the questions I need people to answer at the moment.

When people aren't a strong part of a fandom (I.e they have a non-fandom blog) their opinions and ideas are never popularised. Unless its submitted to a better known blog.

Anonymous asked:

Any fandoms that you find strange?

The 'superwholock' fandom because they try and make every post about themselves/ relate it back to their fandom. They also seem to be the most dominant fandom on here too, so even if you abhor supernatural/ doctor who/ Sherlock, their presence is always on your dash.
