She had a small black cat she called Balerion, did you know? I always wondered what happened to him. Rhaenys liked to pretend he was the true Balerion, the Black Dread of old, but I imagine the Lannisters taught her the difference between a kitten and a dragon quick enough, the day they broke down her door.
rhaenys was presented at court by her father, prince rhaegar targaryen, and whilst her grandmother, queen rhaella targaryen, embraced her warmly, her grandfather, king aerys ii targaryen, refused to touch or hold her, claiming that she SMELLED “DORNISH.”

bright dornish sun lights golden hair like candleflame, like torchlight, bright & burning gold. lannister gold, lion-tawny. little lioness her mother’s image, summer’s day gold - - summer leaf green - - lion’s blood, through and through (more true than she knows, double-blood, this lion’s daughter). yet well does brightest sun agree, as though gold had been born to be so burnished. in its light does she smile, unaware that this new face met once with lion’s teeth, lion’s claws, escaped by serpent’s cunning.

rhaenys forces herself to SMILE at the other, mentally reminding herself that this girl was not her grandfather nor was she her father, that it was not her dainty little hands that had the BLOOD of her whole family dripping from the spaces between her fingers ; that she was her OWN PERSON and that she was different. yet she can’t help the feeling of DISLIKE that pangs within her every time she catches even a glimpse myrcella’s golden locks inside a room. she’d made it a point to stay AWAY from the princess as much as possible for the duration of her stay, but her cousin seemed to have other plans.

He should have known better than to ask such a wretched question. Long years it may have been, before his lifetime in fact, but he’s heard stories of the sack and the atrocities lain to this princess and her family. “Don’t think of it.
