Something that annoyed me about the main show is that I feel like they would conveniently dumb down the characters or make them less capable at certain points to move the story along or make the antagonist look stronger than they are

Absolutely. And so normal in a lot of superhero media too. Instead of making the antagonist more compelling or powerful, they violate the rules they've already established.

Speaking of season 2. Do you want TOWL to have one? I do, but I can’t think of what the storyline could even be about. We know there’s no way in hell AMC would give them a sitcom.

Not really.

The problem with TWD is not knowing when to let go. Contrary to popular opinion, I love that they both left when they did. It takes a lot of courage and resolve to say, “Nah, this is going on too long.” TOWL was always meant as a conclusion, I think.

I love DG and AL and would love to see them work together again outside of TWD. They’re brilliant together.

What I REALLY want is an erotic thriller staring them lol. After 1x04, a Mr. and Mrs. Smith type beat???

It also feels like they were trying to be "subtle" in 6A with Richonne with having Michonne talk to that guy about his wife and a few other scenes but honestly that was the time they should have been more explicit, like show Rick realizing his feelings or after kissing Jessie we see him with Michonne and have them have a moment (even if it doesn't lead to kissing). As it stands it kind of feels like, "Fine, here's your Richonne" since they couldn't make the Rick/Jessie thing work.

Me being generous:

TWD isn't a romance show. It's not their strong suit. They don't have space to work through those dynamics. There's a lot of players and a lot going on. Thus a lot of the romances are built through inference and suggestion.

Me being cantankerous:

You HAVE be more direct with a BW/WM pairing on a predominately white show with a predominantly white fan base. Especially when it's based on source material where the lead had a white female love interest. Once Andrea bit the dust, people were waiting for the next blonde white woman as a replacement.

Now some of fans’ attachment to Jessie is just their poor media literacy and bias.

Some of it is writing/directing. AL did an interview where he shared that he wished they'd have given more space to the lead up (not to Richonne; that had already been building) but to the 6x10 kiss specifically. I agree. That could have been done in a number of ways. A hug that lingers, some suggestive eye contact, backing away. An almost kiss. An onscreen conversation with literally anyone.

DG said in a recent interview that a lot of love stories fail because they rely too much on inference. She was right. It's why she loves Bridgerton. Even though the characters haven't taken the step yet, you are sure they want to. The J arc was weird because they'd already built Richonne. J came out of nowhere, not Michonne.

The fact people write fics that could very well be award winning novels is insane.

Like—they write this for FREE. FOR FREE.

You beautiful bastards, I love you.

I love gifs! Whoever invented it thank you🤩😘

You can zoom on whatever /center/de-center…

And now rewind ⏪ forward by maintaining you thumb n sliding it on the tumblr mobile app (I don’t know since how long we can do that…) 👍

Be my guess and try it out ⬇️🤭:

But above all huge thank you to the gif-makers of this fandom who took time to download/select/cut/lighten/coloured… (so quickly after an episode aired too 😝 ) and by doing so nourishing our obsessions 😂

And all I didn’t mention veteran n newcomer

Thank you!

I feel like the twd show writers kinda underestimated how popular and beloved Michonne is as a character. Her not getting a full episode dedicated to her backstory leading up to her meeting Andrea was such a miss.

This is a character who got her own video game because of how popular she is. Why would you not want to utilise her more in your show?

They definitely did.

Some of it is that this genre prioritizes certain characters. The Ricks and Daryls. Those are who much of the fan base care about. Look at the comments of YouTube and TikTok videos about TOWL.

I wish this was about Rick and Daryl.

When will Rick and Daryl reunite?

You think Daryl will help Rick take down the CRM?

Boo. Corny. Tomato. Tomato. Tomato.

Yay that Scott Gimple and Andrew Lincoln are attuned to Michonne/Danai's draw—and that they just love and respect her so much. As they should.

And of course AMC would prioritize Danai now that she's uber famous. Good.

What’s your favourite type of richonne fic?

My favorite question to answer. I don't know if I have a favorite type but all of my favorite fics include one or all of the following.

Slow burns

That's my bread and butter, where I come alive. As long as the reason(s) they aren't together yet are compelling and the pay off is good. Examples:

Smart, delicate writing

Smart: observant, insightful, able to tease out the dynamics that exist on the show. Delicate: grounded, unfolds with intention, realized over time (not rushed), simple but sophisticated. Examples:

Anything by poalimal but special mention to: The Cabin; Symptom of Life; Something Sweet

The brilliant leanan (who's on Tumblr!): Found; The Devil Beside You

Plot Driven

See Only Lovers Left Alive above
