I think they're trying to make grimm more dangerous because I'm surprised Blake couldn't take it. It seems to be to slow, and Blake the ninja should had been a perfect counter. It also looked bad because Ruby took it down with just one hit. I wait for the day when Blake doesn't get nerfed.
I'll admit my first reaction to the fight was to be a bit upset too but it makes sense Blake couldn't really fight it. Blake is not a head on fighter. One on one with any opponent she mostly dodges and gives just a bit of damage. Her and Yang work so well together because Yang can tank and keep an opponent focused on her while Blake works from the shadows dealing damage. Add the fact it was a new Grimm for her and she had to keep it focused on her to keep Ruby safe means there wasn't really much she could do that fight.
That said for both her and more so Weiss I feel like even just their movements feel slowed and delayed. I also just miss Weiss using her glyphs to move quicker (which last chapter would have been a great time to bring that back) or get to places she otherwise couldn't.
I'm trying to not be too critical as of yet cause it's really the first time we've seen them fight so far but I get where you're coming from even if for Blake I have to get it a bit of leeway.
If I may add to this
We know this volume takes place over 48 hour, this event probably took place early in the second day, or about 24-28 hours into this whole volume. They probably had very little rest in those hours and in such, are probably tired as hell.
Their aura hadn't had time to regenerate, and adrenaline can only take you so far in terms of awareness. That Blake along with the points you've illustrated, is probably sleep deprived, low on aura, and scared shitless.
