An Interview with Damien Glonek - Co-Creator of Living Dead Dolls
A PopCultcha exclusive !
1. How long does it typically take to decide which figures will be in a line-up? Is it one late night brainstorming session, or something that starts to take shape over a few weeks?
It really all depends on on what concept we come up with for each line. Sometimes we have dolls designed that have been sitting around for months or years that just never seem to fit into the right series. Once the theme is decided upon the dolls generally take shape from there and all the pieces fall into place.
2. Any secret inspiration process: (e.g.; coffee, hanging upside down like bruce wayne, golf)
Really just trying to outdo what we did before, trying to keep things different and unique while still keeping the “LDD” look. I wish there was an easy process to do it, but with most creative things you just need to wait for the inspiration to come to you.
3. Is there a concept for a LLD that you’ve always wanted to do but never been able to place?
One release that will be coming out at the end of the year is the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. It is a concept that has been on the back burner for a long time and just never fit into the schedule. Now with the end of the world coming, it seemed like the perfect time to release them. It is all in the timing, the idea for Series 17 Urban Legends was thought up back when we were designing series 5, but just never found the right place to put it. Frozen Charlotte is a character that went through many incarnations starting probably around series 8 but never worked out until series 12 when she was revealed. Hopefully everything will see the light of day eventually, when the time is right.
4. Any wishlist licenses you’d want to work with in the LDD format?
Definitely, there are a lot of movies characters out there I would still love to do. Exorcist, Hellraiser, Night of the Living Dead. Who knows, maybe one day. 5. What can you tell us about what’s up-coming this year and next ?
Series 23 is in stores now and series 24 should be out around September, we also have the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse at the end of the year as well as a second series of the 2” Figurines. Next year I am sure there will be a lot of surprises in store for everyone.
