until the advent of repeating firearms (and the subsequent death of the infantry formation), polearms could not be removed from infantry formations.

there's a reason why the thing that finally displaced the dominance of the pike and shot formation (half polearms, half muskets) was the bayonet (which is, when your gun is six feet long, a kind of polearm).

so long as there is formation fighting, the polearm is king. should it ever return, the polearm will be king again.

Love being fun and silly with strangers… Today at the farmers market the hummus guy saw my bag and was like “We’re filling that up right??” and I was like Twist my arm!! and we both hooted.
