A portrait of the Martell family

On odd days: Dany being Azor Ahai is too predictable. Martin doesn’t like straightforward prophecies and following genre tropes. He likes to subvert the reader’s expectations, and thus, Dany being Azor Ahai is just a red herring.
On even days: Jon Snow is Azor Ahai simply by virtue of having the right parentage––Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. He is the true Last Targaryen despite not birthing dragons, riding dragons, or having an arc that deals with the ethical and political limits and ramifications of using fire power and draconic power. Him being raised as a bastard but actually being the secret messianic heroic prince is good, subversive, unpredictable storytelling and doesn’t conform to standard fantasy tropes at all. He’ll kill the evil mad queen Daenerys and unflinchingly and unequivocally inherit the dragons and Targaryen legacy.
Dany had no wish to reduce King’s Landing to a blackened ruin full of unquiet ghosts.

Let all of King’s Landing see the flames. It will be a lesson to our enemies.

GRRM: Daenerys and Cersei are meant to be foils.

You know why Dany’s haters are so loud?
Because Daenerys Targaryen is one of the most, if not the most, iconic character from got/asoiaf. D&D used her & her dragons for the show’s brand, and to market it as the most popular franchise in the world.
Because ruining Dany’s character and turning her into the final villain of the show ruined all the other characters. Because the last three episodes of season eight were the lowest rated of the show, and got s8 was the lowest rated season of the show in its history. Because the poor ratings of s8 dragged down the overall critic rating and audience score of the show, which were once both in the high 90′s. In other words: Dracarys, bitch. If you take Dany down, she’s taking the rest of you down with her.
Because so many people, from hardcore Dany fans, to local show viewers, to loyal book-only fans, to random celebrities, to people who haven’t even watched the show or read the books, commented on how OOC and awful her ending was.
Because Emilia Clarke still stands by Daenerys, and was devastated when she learned how her character’s arc would end. Because Kit Harington turned bright red and started crying when he learned about Dany’s fate. Because both of them wandered around depressed after they read the final script.
Because fans of Dany/Emilia successfully channeled their grief and rage at the ending through positive means by raising 100,000 pounds for Emilia’s charity that is dedicated to brain injuries.
Because thousands of women and girls, especially those who have survived trauma, abuse, or violence, were heartbroken and distraught after they saw how Dany’s arc ended.
Because George R. R. Martin stated that Daenerys, along with Jon, Arya, Tyrion, and Bran, is one of his key five characters whose arcs he has plotted out from the beginning.
Because George R. R. Martin stated that Tyrion is his favorite character, and Arya and Dany are his second favorite characters.
Because critics ripped into the last season and the last episode, with a particular focus on how the show ruined Dany. Because feminist media journalists analyzed how the show is sending a dangerous message about women, trauma, power, and gender. Because renowned marxist philosopher Slavoj Zizek was somehow roused from, I don’t know, doing whatever he does to write a scathing review of the final episode of s8.
Because Emilia Clarke’s phenomenal performance is getting the most praise and attention, and all eyes are on her. Because people can’t stand that she’s getting the praise she deserves and Dany haters are enraged that Emilia stands by the character she’s played for 10 years, the character who helped save her life, they’re hating on her now as well.
Because youtube film and tv critics have made both funny and insightful videos deconstructing how poorly Dany was treated and how awful this season was.
Because cast members have to keep incessantly badmouthing Dany in every interview they’re in even though they’re promoting their own movies.
Because iconic celebrities such as Beyoncé, Jason Momoa, Mindy Kaling, Lupita Nyong’o, Snoop Dogg, and Janelle Monáe love her.
Because Dany is such an amazing character with a beautiful arc, people who despise her will continue to violently hate on her, even as they steal canon quotes said by her or about her, and use it for their favorite characters or for their “feminist” got ladies gifsets while excluding her; even as they steal canon jonerys quotes and use it for their ships; even while they badmouth House Targaryen and then use canon Targaryen quotes for their favorite character or house’s gifsets; even while they come up with intricate theories detailing how their faves will steal Dany’s dragons and armies from her and gain power after killing her; because they can never shut up about her, even if their faves are healthy and happy and alive.
Daenerys is so fucking iconic and so beloved and so memorable and so complex and so inspiring that when the showrunners ruined her, she dragged the whole show down with her. The franchise would be nothing without her, and people, especially her most vocal haters, know it. Do they acknowledge it, or will they ever acknowledge it? No, but it remains true that she is the real heart of this series, and nothing, no one, can take that away.

and now i have nothing.
The dragon queen nodded solemnly. She knew what that was like. At least at one point. "I see. I was there myself for a time, before my dragons came along," she smiled gently. But the question was, was he trustworthy. "I often welcome those whom feel they do not belong into my ranks. Though with that must come a loyalty of sorts. Feel free to stay all the time you need if you wish to only do so. If you would mayhaps like a place here, it will take time to garner trust,"

@nightgathered liked x for a starter
"You say that these....undead men called whitewalkers, march towards us now? And that if they get over the wall we're certainly doomed? As such, that is why I should hold off my attack on Cersei Lannister?" Daenerys reiterated his claims, tilting her head curiously.
Consider this a sort of ‘soulmate au’ promptlist except it’s for significant connections, either good or bad. Often it’s soulmates, but it can also be like, your wife’s murderer, your found family, etc (so there’s some ambiguity). Or just use it as a soulmate au list - whatever floats your boat!
Send a prompt and I’ll write a starter where…
[First Words] - the first thing our muses say to each other is tattooed somewhere on their bodies.
[Injuries] - whenever one muse is injured, the other becomes injured in the same place, and vice versa. Good for muses who get stabbed, etc. (Bonus: either muse can treat the injuries, so if one can get to a hospital they can get the other urgent medical care.)
[Through their eyes] - for 10 minutes every six months (or a year, etc) our muses get to see through each other’s eyes. It happens at random, not on a schedule.
[Birthmarks] - our muses share the same birthmark, in the same place, in the same shape/size. Particularly good for two celebrity muses where the public notice their birthmarks before they do.
[Clock] - each muse has a countdown on the inside of their wrist until they meet each other (or until they die, or until they see them for the very first/last time)
[Names] - our muses are born just Knowing each other’s first name. There are probably a lot of Johns/Janes/Jordans out there, but every time they run into someone with The Name…
[Dreams] - our muses occasionally share dreams. It happens randomly, only once every couple of months (or years).
[Love] - whenever muse A feels loved, muse B can ‘sense’ it, like a distant thrumming heartbeat, and vice versa. Good for muses who did not grow up in happy homes.
[Adrenaline] - whenever one muse is in danger, the other can feel their adrenaline. Unhelpful for sitting exams. Good for muses who live dangerous lives.
[Scars] - shared scars. If one muse is scarred, so is the other, in the same place in the same way.
[Reincarnation] - they only have fleeting memories of their past lives, or maybe they remember them in full, but whatever the case: it’s been [Muse]. It’s always been [Muse]. (Maybe one muse doesn’t remember…?)
doesn't necessarily have to be enemies or lovers i just needed a title x
Trilling birds, flowing water, and the sweet scent of wildflowers greeted Rhaenys as she stepped into the water gardens; the calm serenity promising a protection akin to that of the steel armor worn by knights of Westeros. At least to her. Violet eyes closed, accompanied by a deep intake of breath before opening again. As a young child, Rhaenys would spend hours here, happy to pass her days playing in the water, making flower crowns, and basking in the sun. But now she was a woman grown and it was time to put away childish pleasantries. She no longer had time nor need for such luxuries. The spear she held in her hand seemed heavier all of a sudden, as if the thought itself was pulling down upon it, reminding her of her duty. A duty that she would not forsake, as her father had forsaken his duty, to her mother, her brother, and herself. To Westeros. It wasn’t only duty that called to her, but justice as well. Justice for her mother and brother. One that would not be served by cowering here from the very ones that had taken them from her, like her Uncle Doran had been doing for years. No. It was time to stop sitting idly by. It was time to find a way to reclaim her home and bring justice for her family. Once upon a time all of Westeros feared dragons and their fire of destruction. When the last dragon fell, they thought themselves safe. What fools they were. Aye, dragons were gone, but Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, the Sun Dragon still lived and there was no fire that burned brighter than the sun.
