I’m at it again! In light of the fact that this is SessKag Week, I’m spotlighting a SessKag author today!

MISS TEAK

Before I begin with this week’s spotlight, here are some things I want to clear up:

These Spotlight Saturdays I’m doing aren’t meant to highlight one fanartists or fic writer over another or make someone feel bad about not being spotlighted. In fact, they’re my way of saying thank you and giving some love to my friends and other content creators in the fandoms I’m in. What this means is that as long as I am physically able to, I will spotlight someone. If I haven’t gotten to you yet, chances are, I will, at some point in the future. These Spotlight Saturdays are supposed to be practically ongoing for as long as I can keep going with them, so a lot of people will end up on here at some point.
If you want to nominate someone for it, or want to nominate yourself (hey, give yourself some credit too!) then please go ahead and add their name to the sheet I have up here. My only request is that if the artist or fic writer does do a lot of NSFW work/writing, you note it for me.

That all said, here we go with this week’s Spotlighted Author:

MISS TEAK!

Where shall I begin? First, please know Miss Teak that if you are around on tumblr, I have not tagged you because I do not know your tumblr url. (I would have otherwise).

So, let me start by saying that Miss Teak has been my writing goals ever since I started writing SessKag fanfiction. In fact, I think I could very easily say, she has been my writing goals since I started writing fanfiction in the first place. Her stories have the right mix of fluff, angsty slow burn, and feelings that make me melt and squeal and just crave her writing all the more. She hasn’t been active in a long time, but I will forever and ever and ever recommend her fic The Third Parties which is one of the best angsty, slow-burn, will they/won’t they fics I have ever read in all of SessKag. (And I’ve read a lot of stories over the years, but nothing has met the standard set here so far).

Her fic Just Turn Around… and Fall in Love is one of the best fluffy fics, and I literally go reread it time and time again. I’m pretty sure I can quote portions of it back to people at this point. And I know I used the layout of her story here in my own writing. She wrote this story so so well!

And Once upon an Edo Night: NSFW, but OMG! It is so good! If you crave angst and smut and are okay with having your heart stomped on as you read, then this is a MUST READ! Also, there’s a second part to this called Once upon an Edo Night: Night of undying Passion.

Miss Teak never finished Happily Ever After but I know that because of that story I have forever and ever shaped my view of Sesshomaru differently. Her characterization of Sesshomaru here is so well done, and the slow-burn, kind of arranged marriage trope she wrote literally drags you in. (Fair warning: it’s not done).

And she’s got way way way more works too! If you look at her page over on Dokuga, you’ll see she has works such as Let us Fall in Love and Wisteria.

And if you’re ever having a bad day and need a pick me up: look no further than The Adventures of Chibimaru and Gang and Rumor Has It.

She’s got so many more stories which I have not highlighted here, but please, if you’re looking for a new SessKag author to read, I 100% recommend her works.

Ah, Mitharus found a back up from 2011 so ALL of the Spark archive is now restored! Much of the artwork, but not all, is also back. We didn’t lose anything from the fanfiction section on the main site, since that is stored differently from the art and Spark archive. This is the best we can hope for, given what we thought was lost by the end of yesterday. I’m actually pretty ecstatic about the recovery of the 4,000 some-odd stories on the Spark archive, believe me!

Thank you so much for your kind words and patience with the ups and downs. We do really have the most awesome people in our fandom (my completely unbiased opinion)!!

The Great Debacle of 2021

Sorry I haven’t been able to update everyone here, or on Discord, before now, but I was processing what happened to Dokuga. Being with that site from its very inception, I’ve been rather invested in its day to day health and wellbeing, so to speak.

When the domain name issue first arose, Mitharus and I were both under the impression that the site was set to automatically back up every week. Thus we were confident that, if anything at all got damaged in trying to switch to a new domain name, we’d be able to put things to rights. We were wrong.

Mitharus has posted an explanation of what happened on Dokuga’s forum under much the same heading as this post. He’s much better at the ‘splaining thing than I am. Anyway, I can only imagine that sick, sinking feeling he got when he discovered that our backups weren’t there. That’s the same sort of feeling I got when I realized how much is now missing.

One of the main problems with the site has always been the way it stores certain things. Imagine one huge file with all the fanart and the Spark archive in it, constantly updated every time someone uploads fanart. That’s what we lost - not the database. We still have the database, which is why we’re still able to log in, upload and edit stories, and find all the stories that were uploaded to Dokuga proper. All of that is still in the database.

Right now, Mith is busy with his real job, real life, and trying to help fix what the oh-so-helpful Administrative Tools program killed by deleting that huge file. If anyone has questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me here, on Dokuga. or on Discord (where I’m WiccanMethuselah). You all have my deepest apologies. Regardless of any fault, I feel deeply saddened that we’ve lost such a huge part of our Sess/Kag history.

I was really surprised when I wanted to log in today and the Dokuga website was just gone. It took me quite a while to find any info about this. I’m so sorry. It’s impossible, once the domain got suspended, for anyone to get into the database... thus it’s impossible for anyone to send emails - or even find anyone’s email addy. The domain company still isn’t letting me pay for the renewal and they’re trying to contact the original domain holder - whose email address is now defunct.

Mitharus and I are trying to get the site back up with a different domain name, but the way the original site owner put it together, it’s not making it easy for us. I am pestering the domain company on a daily basis, but it might come down to me being able to remember which credit card I used to renew the domain about 10 years ago. No one is having fun here, let me assure you. And, again, I’m so sorry about the lack of notice. :(
