Drake hurried through the almost chill morning air, head down, steps quick as he surreptitiously scanned for threats using his peripheral vision. He didn’t pause as he passed through security on his way to the royal train car. He didn’t slow down until he was outside Liam’s door. He knocked sharply on the door and shifted impatiently from foot to foot as he waited for Liam to answer.
Liam opened the door and blinked at him in surprise, “What’s going on?”
“We need to talk.” Drake glanced around as he stepped through the doorway, not waiting for an invitation.

A/N: This is for the @choicesprompts Song Rewrite Challenge. My song is Daylight by David Kushner. I heard this song and I knew I had to write something with it! I have left it up to the reader which man is which.

I dress hurriedly in the darkening of my room, not bothering to turn on a light as the sun dips below the horizon. I’m late because I almost didn’t go. But my position rather requires it so here I am.
I turn and look back at my rumpled bed. Still warm from earlier. Her scent still lingers in the air. I shake my head and force myself to step through the doorway.
Another interminable ball. I’m going because I must. But she will be there.
As I leave my room and stride down the hall, I tell myself that it won’t matter. I’ll ignore her. It won’t happen again.
But I know it’s a lie.

Riley stepped into the private dining room of the restaurant that had obviously been cleared. Other than security, she saw no one else until she was ushered into a room in the back. She had been around Liam long enough to recognize why the room was chosen, it was away from any windows, easier to protect. A guard held the door open for her then closed it behind her as she stepped through.
Liam was on the far side of the room, pacing. In the fraction of a second it took for him to hear her enter and look up, she took in his demeanor, his posture, his facial expression. He was definitely stressed and upset, but she saw something else she was unaccustomed to seeing on his face: fear. Her brow furrowed, what was he afraid of? Was there a new threat? Was that why he had called her here?

The door had barely closed behind Drake before Liam called Alec into the room and started issuing orders. Alexandros Eliades was Liam’s personal assistant but that was a cover for his real job. He was the covert agent Drake had handpicked to replace himself when Liam had officially reassigned Drake to Riley’s detail. Personal assistant was chosen as the cover because it gave Alec a reason to be nearby 24/7, as well as complete unquestioned access to Liam’s schedule and itinerary. Everything was vetted through him, but most of the actual personal assistant duties were carried out by a staff of several undersecretaries. Alec’s main job was to vet the venues and people and coordinate with both branches of king’s guard to secure any locations the king would be present at or passing through.
Liam was normally easy to protect. He listened to his team, took Alec’s advice, and didn’t deviate much from schedules. He didn’t sneak off and run away like his brother Leo had and he followed security protocols for the most part. Today was apparently going to be different.
