*pokes head in*

Still here.

Still hype for 0.3 more seconds of Apprentice Xehanort.

Still tired on an existential level.

Psssst.

I now very, very unofficially have a Master of Masters blog

This is kind of an experiment.  I usually do not pick up muses when I cannot pin down what I think their motivations and philosophies are, and I freely admit to having no one idea and multiple wild and conflicting theories as to what might be going on with MoM.  I’m not overly bothered where canon goes with him on a story level (Terrifying force of ultimate evil?  Manipulative charlatan with no real power?  Decoy antagonist who’s been built up only to get stomped by the real threat for the next arc?  Actually, against all odds, on the good guys’ side?  Secretly a character we already know?), but whether what we get will be condusive to me actually wanting to continue RPing him is another matter.

@x-purpose started following you

A sour note rang through the Gray Area as he realized he wasn’t alone.  “H-hey, Superior!  I-I was— I was just about to head out.  Really.  Um.  Right now.”  He scrambled to his feet.  Oh, man, if Xemnas had come out here personally, instead of Saïx, he was in so much trouble.  “Please don’t hurt me.”

“I find that unlikely.”

Xemnas’ presence in the Grey Area was a rarity.  That, along with the amount of time Demyx had been evading Saïx for so far, might be the explanation behind him getting sloppy enough to be caught here.

“You were meant to depart for Agrabah three days ago.  I would be most interested to learn what vital work you have been doing towards the Organization’s goals in that time, and how you came to decide it superceded your orders.”

I’m alive.  Kinda.

Linguistics nerd fact: When talking with my dad, we often end up dialectually code-switching between Standard South Of England Very Middle Class English and my Dad’s native Cornish dialect, which is... well, imagine a cross between Sam Gamgee and a pirate, then blur all the words together and remove the need for anything to be comprehensible to a cinema audience.

Today I would like to talk about this:

...young Xehanort’s reaction to whatever name the Master of Masters gave him.

Whatever name it was, Xehanort recognises it.  Not only recognises it: he’s been confidently talking all this time, even being a little dismissive of the Master of Masters just before this point, but whatever he hears doesn’t just spark recognition and surprise, it’s enough to have him freeze and go dead quiet in shock.

I have no idea what this implies, but it sure does imply something

I was going to try setting up my MoM blog.

It transformed into watching Back Cover and finding all kinds of design details.

MoM’s chair.

The back of MoM’s chair appears to have a keyhole in it.  And is also not helping with the “Satanic archetype” vibe.

The table design associates a colour gem with each animal.  Interestingly, the actual gems the Foretellers are wearing don’t match: Ira’s wearing purple (the Snake on the table), Aced is wearing red (the Unicorn on the table), Ava is wearing sea green (hard too tell if that’s the Leopard or the Bear), Gula is wearing sky blue (likewise), and Invi is wearing white (possibly the Fox on the table, though that looks kinda pinkish).

And here’s the backs of the chairs at that table.

If that’s Mjölnir, given the slew of Norse mythology references coming in with Dark Road, I’m gonna shit myself.

Was Terra in there? Vanitas couldn’t help but wonder that as he stared back at Ansem. His mask, always present, kept his face hidden for the time being. Ansem could not see the scowl he wore. How much of a resemblance to Master Xehanort did Ansem bear? Or, was there enough of Terra in him to offset his master’s personality traits?
At least with Sora, he could tell.

“I was simply wondering what might have possessed the old man to think that pulling you out of your own time would be a worthwhile endeavor.”

Was such a being even suitable as a vessel?  Vanitas... the name encompassed his original self’s failings in understanding the Darkness.  It was not an empty thing to be harnessed to one’s own purpose.  It had a will of its own.

Demyx looks out over the keyblades one more time. “Then I guess you have your answer. Nothing has changed and the wielders of old charged in like the heroes of light soon will.” The answer seemed lackluster after so long looking for it. But then Xehanort was relying on history to repeat itself so his plan could work. There wasn’t much else Xemnas could learn from these keys.

There was a truth there.  Light, Darkness, the Heart... their fundamental natures did not change.  And thus the cycle was destined to repeat itself, for as long as the worlds were built on those foundations.  For all his talk of a new order and a clean slate, the old Master’s thinking was too firmly embedded in those concepts not to build the same ancient mistakes into his new world.  A clean slate meant nothing.  It had to be broken entirely.

“Perhaps that is so.”

But there was still the slimmest of chances.  Kingdom Hearts would be summoned.  And at that point, would Xehanort still command the loyalty of those who had other plans for it...

The fading tendrils of a closing dark corridor were all that remained where Xemnas had once been standing.
