dan referring to phil in his coming out video: Actual Soulmate phil referring to dan in his coming out video: people spending the night

Don’t get me wrong, I used to be a huge phan fan. I kind of lost interest a few years ago, but I watched both of their coming out videos. While I do believe they were together, and I know none of this my business and I don’t get to have an opinion about it, but I feel like Dan was very raw and genuine in his video and it sorta seems like Phil was looking to gain subs. Dan has pretty much always had a larger following then Phil, even through a lot of their videos were together. Phil’s video just rubbed me weird.

literally, imagine seeing a gay man Finally publicly embrace his sexuality in front of millions of people after an entire decade of hiding, dodging certain questions, invasive speculation, being outed multiple times, having to cut off people, being mocked for trying to stay closeted while protecting someone else in the same situation and then say “idk sounds like clout chasing lol”? the absolute disrespect.

don’t reduce phil’s coming out to wanting subscribers. that’s literally a dumb take and i don’t know What in this post lead you to think this was the appropriate place to express that opinion when tumblr has a lovely feature called ‘New Text Post’.

I think the way they came out was a massive deciding factor in that. Phil's was casual, so his response was the same. Dan's was big and dramatic and emotional - as was his response. There's no need to be mad. I think this is what Phil wanted - not to make a big splash of difference, but to help any followers going through a tough time with their sexuality.

the part that keeps playing over and over in my head from dan’s coming out video is “you were born this way, it’s right.”

because that’s the thing with being queer, right? you grow up thinking you’re wrong, you have people telling you you’re wrong, you start believing that there is something wrong with you. and after you come out (if you’re lucky) people might say that “there’s nothing wrong with you” which also brings up the fact that so many people think there is something wrong with being queer. people usually don’t tell you “it’s right”, they just say “it’s not wrong”.

but dan said it and i’m really glad he did. it’s right to be your true self. it’s right to live your truth. it’s not just “not wrong”, it’s RIGHT.
