“how long are we going to sit here” haechan whines, squirming around the passenger seat of your white sedan. his fluffy black hair pressed hard against the head rest.

“hyuck, i’m just too nervous. i don’t think i can face it. or them even!”

his eyes softened. a look of pity swirled with sympathy, he knows how difficult it can be to meet new people. especially for you— who struggles with introductions to strangers and distant relatives.

when you had kindly asked (begged) haechan to accompany you to visit some family he blindly agreed. and to be truthful he hadn’t been keenly listening either but he kept that to himself.

it hadn’t hit him why you had been acting so fidgety and anxious the days leading up to today. it wasn’t like your family wasn’t fond of haechan; it was quite the opposite actually, so why get all worked up now?

“it’ll be fine! it’ll love you for sure!”

you look up from your hands, raising your head slowly “are you sure hyuck? i can’t help but feel so nervous”

“of course my love, no one would ever dislike you. now come on! let’s go inside”

donghyuck couldn’t believe you were that nervous to meet your nephew. that when he realized he audibly scoffed.

yoonoh soulfully believed he knew everything there was to know about you: and boy did ge take pride. you obviously scoffed a term of unbelief. i mean, you didn’t even know yourself well enough. how could yoonoh claim to be alll knowing of your personality and likes.

though his ego was hurt the day ge couldn’t remember (didn’t know) your food order.

it was a restaurant you frequently visited on date nights, the staff preparing your table like clock-work. it wasnt until the menus began to slip in his sweating palms that yoonoh began to realize how much he’s over mined his knowledge. he just can’t remember what you loved to order despite hearing your praises towards the oh so delicious plate.

“yoon.. are you sure you don’t want me to order? you seem a bit pale”

your hand reached to feel around his forehead for a fever, his furrowed eyebrows brushing against your fingertips. a sheer layer of tears, almost bubbling over his eyelid. you frowned.

“yoonoh, babe what’s wrong”

“i- .. i forgot your favorite order”

a laugh escaped your lips, like yoonoh, tears threaten to spill from your eyes. his mouth dropped, was his pain (embarrassment) funny to you? did you even care if he knew your order in the first place?

“babe. what don’t laugh! this is serious!”

“okay okay! i’m sorry” you giggled “if i tell you the order will you promise to remember it, i don’t think i can handle seeing you so stressed out again”

“you look so cute when you’re ignoring me.” juyeon accidentally coos. he didn’t mean to say that, not when you were already mad at him, but he just had to point it out.

as he expected, you continue to act like he isn’t there, and take a seat on the sofa. sitting the bowl of your homemade brownies on your lap, you swat his hand when he tries to reach out for a piece.

“hey, that’s not fair.” juyeon whines, the tiniest pout resting upon his lips.

and you blankly stare at him, “you’ve already had your share, maybe even more than that.”

“i said i was sorry..”

he doesn’t get a reply. rather, you divulge into the movie playing on the tv, and quietly munch on your snack.

of course, this won’t do for juyeon.

stubborn, he walks up to the screen and stands in front of it, effectively obscuring your view. rather than watching the meaningless argument between the two leads, you have something else to look at: the confectionary stealer that you call your roommate.

“juyeon, move.” he refuses to listen.

“look, i’m sorry for eating more than i should have. no matter how mouthwatering they smell, i shouldn’t have given into temptation. i swear i’ll do anything to make it up to you.”

“anything?”

“anything.”

“including watching sandra oh’s new movie with me?”

juyeon pauses. is he really willing to go that length? he shifts his stare from the coffee table to you and thinks yeah, he actually would.

“..including watching that horror show with you.”

“deal.” satisfied, you pat the space next to you. “now come on, we got a mediocre netflix film to finish.”

he happily takes the seat and leans back, his right arm lightly placed on your shoulder. glancing over at your bowl, he finds himself tempted to sneak a piece for himself. but then he looks at you again and realizes no, seeing you happy is already fulfilling for him.

a guide to leaving feedback / interacting with fics.

recently in the kpop fanfic community, there have been a lot of authors that depart from their blogs due to the lack of feedback & interactions they receive on their fics. this could be due to a number of reasons, but since we are a fic-recommendation blog, we figured we would do our part in helping the community be more aware of a couple ways on how they can spread love on their favorite works and prevent more authors from leaving due to this specific reason!

please understand that is just the perspective of the admins of ficscafe. other people have different preferences and opinions, but we compiled information gathered from perspectives of an abundance of authors and this seems to be the middle ground / popular belief. if you have any questions or concerns, please drop by the ficscafe ask box.

reblogs + text response. if we’re talking about the best way to promote authors and make them feel good, reblogging the fic itself and writing your feedback in the body of the post is the way to do it. there’s nothing better than an author clicking their notifications and seeing a reblog + comment on a fic they’ve written. it not only helps with promoting, but it also gives them an idea of how their audience feels about their work! comment within the reblog vs. tags. there’s nothing wrong with either of these! they both have the same purpose—promotion with feedback for the author. the only setback for tags is that if the author wanted to respond to your comment, it would require them to take a screenshot instead of reblogging with your feedback above theirs. stuck on what to write in the comments? easy! write literally anything pertaining to the fic. you can quote parts of the story where you felt a certain way, you can compliment the writing style, or you can discuss your thoughts on the fic. you can also talk about how much it impacted you, how interesting the storyline was, or even the uniqueness of the fic. literally anything. authors love hearing from their readers, and it motivates them to continue writing more !!
comments. only leaving comments is fine, however, it’s not particularly the best when it comes to promotion. authors do love seeing how their audience feels about their fic–but it’s a bit discouraging when their readers comment but it wasn’t good enough to warrant a reblog. authors sometimes depend on their tags, networks, and pages like ours to help with sharing their stories, but it only goes to a certain extent. please reblog !! your reblog will be more helpful than you think.
likes. probably the absolute worst way to express your adoration for a fic. tumblr is not like instagram—in order for the fic to be spread throughout the community, liking won’t take it far. liking a fic and leaving it as that is almost as if you’re hiding the fact that you enjoyed it. if you really did enjoy the content, please refer back to #1 as to which is the best way.
leaving asks. this is sweet !! we understand that sometimes readers can be shy, but again, it has the same result as #2 comments. leaving asks means interacting with the author, and this can create an ongoing conversation and build a relationship with your favorite author. nothing is better (other than a reblog + text response) than seeing a little bubble above your inbox with a new ask.
donations. this is probably the least popular action. there’s nothing wrong with authors asking for donations, but they shouldn’t make you feel like it’s an obligation or guilt trip you into doing it. donations should be within your means–but if you can donate and the fic was worthwhile enough to donate, feel free to do so! most authors have a kofi, but if they don’t, feel free to drop by their inbox and ask!
