Remember folks! With Halloween coming up, food dyed black with charcoal can neutralise your medication rendering them inactive and useless! This includes contraceptive pills if you take them within 2 hours (before or after) consuming the charcoal!
Black food dye exists! And it's usually cheaper than activated charcoal. Please, if you want to make spooky black food, use food and body safe food dye!

Hypothetical routine(s) and stuff for a baby witch to do
So a lot of people I think are feeling that once you become a witch you need to doΒ lots of things, but they arenβt terribly sure what it is they areΒ βsupposedβ to do. Here are just a few little ideas for things you couldΒ do, if you wanted to.
During creative free time:
- Write affirmations or prayers
- You could write them for daily use (like a morning affirmation), one for each day of the week, one for phases of the moon, or different ones to encourage or bind emotions or help you get through tough days.
- Doodle sigils for use during a later time
- Be creative and have fun, as you are notΒ βrequiredβ to use any sigil you have made.Β
- Think about what kind of energy (elemental, herbal, animal, planetary, etc) you thin would best be used to charge each sigil
- Create lists of magical ideas you would like to explore or write spells for
- Donβt worry about whether something isΒ βrealβ enough or will work or not.
- Make a list of tools you would like and tools you already have
- Draw or write about your perfect ideal tools and what you expect them to do for you
- Include herbs, stones, crafts, natural finds, and anything else you like
- Create an inventory of things around you, in your home, or that you can easily find, for use in your craft
- Write what your current beliefs are
- Contemplate your current belief system and morals, and how you think magic works.
- Make a list of the most important things you want to learn more about or explore
- Write down your current talents and abilities and try to think of ways they can be used magically
- Build altars
- Draw ideas or create digital altars if you do not have the physical space
- Be inspired and create them spontaneously or spend your time and research all the elements.
- Try writing a spell - it doesnβt matter if you know aΒ βrightβ orΒ βcorrectβ way. Just give it a try and see what you come up with!
During research time:
- Research what sort of plants are local to your area and discover what their uses are
- Look up the medicinal and magical uses of herbs and plants you have in the house and on your property
- See if you can discover what sorts of special crystals or stones are near your area or mined close by
- Take your lists of magical items you want and research their uses, both modern and historical
- Try to discover not only what an item is used for, but why,Β and howΒ it became associated with those actions.
- Research what kind of religions and magical traditions have historically been practiced in your area
- Look up lore and mythology for your geographic location
- Find what sorts of helpful books are at your library, whether they be related to religion, psychology, meteorology, mythology, history, gardening, herbalism, cooking, magical traditions, or anything else pertaining to your magical education.
- Find a popular pagan or magical author and research them to understand the context behind their writings and get an idea of what others think of them
- Create your own reading list of library books to keep you occupied
- Research closed religions/closed magical systems so you can understand what is not available for you to use, and to gain valuable information on other magical cultures.
During practice time:
- Choose 2-3 energetic exercises such as these:
- How to send energy to other people
- Energetic Check
- Distance Charging
- Texting Predictions
- Energy Ball
- Energy Cannonball
- Witchβs Guide to Programing
- Witchβs Guide to Grounding
- Witchβs Guide to Centering
- Witchβs Guide to ShieldingΒ (Shielding Masterpost)
- Witchβs Guide to Charging
- Work on a couple of exercises until you feel really comfortable with them and are satisfied that you now have that skill. Then try practicing others.
- Spend 50-70% of the time figuring out how to make the exercise personalΒ to you and comfortable forΒ you
- Spend 10-20% of the time learning how to focus and get in the necessary headspace to do energy work
- Write (if you want) and/or perform simple candle, knot, paper, (whatever) spells as need arises
- Try spells for bringing peace and calmness in to your space, giving yourself good luck, protecting against certain dangers, causing small events to happen, or binding harmful actions done against you
- Identify unique needs you face in your everyday life and try to manage and control them with energy work
During upkeep time:
- Cleanse your personal spaces
- Learn floor washes and keep the recipes and ingredients handy
- Discover what cleansings and purifications will work for your situation
- Personally cleanse
- Take a cleansing shower or bath with special ingredients or using the powers of elemental energies
- Do healing/balancing meditations or spells
- Clean your altars and tools, keep your spaces tidy
- Leave offerings to any spirits you work with
- Weed your gardens, check on your plants or pets
- Update your grimoire or journals
- Include personal experiences, new successes, or things that you have learned
After waking up for the day:
- Repeat appropriate prayers or affirmations
- Spend time in meditation
- You can try to clear your mind, magically make way for the day ahead, or do a guided meditation for preparedness or any other purpose
- Draw a tarot or oracle card for the day
- Use any magical oils or soaps as part of your waking routine
- Including glamoring magic as you get ready for the day is a good way to practice
- State your goals for the day with magical intent
- Magically plan for free time you need during the day so it will be sure to be open for you
During snacks and meals:
- Enchant food by adding in herbs or spices with a little energy and a magical command
- Enchant drinks by stirring, adding energy, and a command
- Give small offerings to spirits you work with by leaving a little food left over on your plate
- Magically affirm that the food will bring you energy
Before going to bed for the day:
- Repeat prayers or affirmations
- Spend time in meditation
- If you meditate when you get up and when you go to bed, try a sunrise or sunset meditation, or complementary meditationsΒ
- Identify what successes you have had that day
- Push away or transform any negative energies send to you that day
- Add additional protective shields for sleeping
That was all I could think of. Add more if you think of some!

Most resources are from blogs who state that they are here to teach, but if for any reason a post of yours appears here and you do not want it here, please let me know and I will remove it. I am not an expert, a professional, or a doctor of any kind. I do not promise that all this will work for you 100% of the time. Little witchy books written by me and only available on floralsgifts.com πβ¨
How can you tell if a "magic" book is full of it? I'm sure with experience you can, but what about beginners?
Reading these books needs a good βbullshit detectorβ.Β There are a few telling signs:
1) Look at the bookβs bibliography. A bibliography can give you, if itβs a good one, the primary sources an author used, and can give you an idea of other books to read. A bad bibliography can save you time - if a book hasnβt got one, or itβs a very short one, or it references only other neo-pagan texts, itβs not going to be long on facts and you might be better off reading something else.
2) Magic and witchcraft arenβt inherently religious. If the book implies or states that a neo-pagan religion is necessary in order to practice witchcraft, itβs probably not worth the read.
3) If the book says itβs about a neo-pagan religion of some kind, but talks endlessly of spells instead, itβs probably a waste of your time if youβre looking for the religious practice first. Some neo-pagan faiths will involve practicing magic, but others donβt.
4) Neo-pagan books that talk about ancient matriarchal religions spanning Europe, a βGreat Goddessβ and all that jazz, are based in the historical theories of Margaret Murray. They were all fairly thoroughly debunked, but it still lingers in neo-pagan circles.
5) Know that things like the βTriple Goddessβ and the Wheel of the Year are modern inventions - they arenβt ancient, and forcing ancient deities or practices into those concepts will not always work or be appropriate.
6) If the deities youβre reading about are described as being very different from their historical selves, itβs probably a good sign that author hasnβt done their home work very well.Β
7) βThe Burning Timesβ did happen - but it was not a systematic genocide of a pagan religion or practitioners of magic. What you had was a mass hysteria created by the church, and taken advantage of by greedy people. They had no qualms in killing unloved neighbours or relatives for their property, with witchcraft as a scapegoat. Maybe a few witches died - but so did thousands of Christians who were unfortunate enough to be disliked, or without family, or to be a better farmer or gardener. βNine Millionβ is certainly hyperbole, and is not factually accurate.
8) Be aware of things that donβt fit: for example, we have whatβs called the βpotato testβ. Potatoes are not native to Europe and were not discovered until explorers began invading South America. So an author that talks about an ancient Irish potato deity, for example, is absolutely full of it.
9) Authors who are patronizing and talk down to their readers, no matter the subject, should be tossed on their ears. Youβre a beginner, perhaps, but youβre not stupid and youβre not a child. You donβt need the author to coddle you or βsimplifyβ the information - their assumption that you do is just rude. If you wouldnβt let someone talk to you like that in real life, why would you read a book that does the same thing?
10) Whenever you can, space your neo-pagan or magical reading out with primary sources and proper non-fiction history and anthropology texts. A primary source is going to give you the closest thing to being there, at whatever time and place youβre looking at. Academic texts can be a chore to get through, but theyβre going to give you the grounding you need to have a detector of your own.
Read what you can get your hands on. At first, like you said, itβs hard to tell the gold from the dross, but youβll get the hang of it. A couple of really awful books will give you a guideline, and youβll find authors you can trust vs. authors you canβt.
Read critically. Donβt be afraid to be a skeptic.Β Similar doesnβt equal same - cultures have similar concepts but it doesnβt make their gods or their practices the same thing with different names. If you think something sounds like horseshit or too good to be true, it probably is.
Good luck, and happy hunting. :>

Things Not to Do in a Cemetery
By someone who works at one.Β
- Please donβt leave glass items on your loved oneβs grave. I understand the urge, really I do. But those vases/picture frames/beer bottles/fancy solar lights/etc are gonna break eventually, and be a pain in the ass for everyone involved.Β
- Different cemeteries have different regulations when it comes to whatβs allowed in the park and whatβs not, and some are more lenient than others about enforcing those regulations. If youβre not sure, ask someone who works there.
- If you put up tiny plastic fences and solar lights and garden decorations around your loved oneβs space it will probably be removed at some point bc yβallβ¦ The grounds crew needs to mow the grass. And some of that stuff is probably technically against the rules anyways, but everyoneβs trying to be nice about it.Β
- Do not sit on or lean against any of the markers or memorials. They may all be made of granite, but the upright ones will flop right over if you push them hard enough, and if the ground is wet the flats will sink into the dirt. Also itβs fucking rude. If someone sees you sitting on their momβs headstone, they might just kick your ass.Β
- Decorations around a grave will be removed if they are broken, or if a grave side service/ burial is going to take place nearby. We do need to bring heavy machinery in to dig graves, and for outside services there are also tents and chairs laid out. If you notice the decorations have been disturbed, itβs probably not vandalism BUT if youβre not sure, it never hurts to ask.Β
- I personally donβt care if you want to place food or drink on your loved oneβs grave. Itβs very common. But if you complain about ants all over the headstone, and I go out to see that itβs because you left a whole ass packet of oreos and an open six pack of corona, Iβm not gonna be impressed or happy. Like Iβll be nice about it, but I will think youβre a dumbass.Β
- If the cemetery allows you to bring pets into the park, thatβs great. Thatβs chill. Please pick up after them. No one likes to see a big pile of dog shit in the middle of the cremation garden.Β
- Do not fuck in the cemetery. I swear to fucking god. Donβt even make out in the cemetery. You shouldnβt be doing that shit in public anyways. I donβt care about your morbid goth fetish. Some grandma is going to see you getting frisky next to her sonβs grave, and beat you to death with her purse and the ten pounds of silk floral arrangements she brought to place there.
- Donβt be afraid to visit. We want these parks to be a place where you can both mourn and celebrate the person who died. I regularly see families who have picnics out there, especially on holidays. If you havenβt visited in a while and arenβt sure where your loved one is, ask someone on staff. Itβs our job to help you find them, and no one is going to judge you for visiting for the first time in like 10 years.Β
Due to recent events, I have decided to update my list.
- Do not be naked in the cemetery.
House Rules
So for those of you that are spirit keepers/companions, or are spirit workers of any frequency, you may know a bit about house rules. Now keep in mind, you donβt need to have house rules. Some donβt find that they need them, some prefer not to have them. I choose to have a set of house rules because I find that for me, it helps bring a little peace and harmony to my house, and that if anything did go wrong, I have something to refer to. Anyone in my house, be it astral being, spirit or entity, from white arts to dark arts to black arts, is expected to follow these rules while they are part of my household/in my house.
These are my house rules. Feel free to use them if you like, modify them, add/subtract as you see fit. I have had a lot of success with these so far, and no incidents. Depending on who is in your family/keep/court, you may need to add rules, or subtract them. But these are what work for me & my family. What is in bold is my actual rule, and then I will expand upon the rule if I see fit.
1. Never harm or show disrespect to myself, my significant other, any other member of my family, friends or welcome household guests. This is obviousβ¦ I donβt want any of my spirit family hurting each other, nor do I want them hurting any human or animal that is welcome in my house.
2. Never harm any children or pets.
3. Never show yourself to anyone besides myself in your true form, unless your true form is something that would not scare them. (Example: If it is a child, appear as something child friendly.) I have a few not so pleasant looking family members, or some beings that in their true form are pretty terrifying. I wouldnβt want them showing themselves to a child or an adult.
4. Sexual contact is only welcome with me and will not be permitted with anyone else. Basically just donβt go touching my boyfriend or anyone else, they donβt appreciate it.Β
5. No physical manifestations at work in front of anyone but myself. Patients and coworkers are not to know about you. Some of you may not need this, but I work with the public and donβt need a spirit manifestation scaring patients away.
6. Protect yourself at all times. If something comes up and I can do something about it, I will help.Β
7. Do not hamper with communication. This covers and includes communication between yourselves, or with me. If I am working specifically with one or with one group, I donβt need anyone else butting in and hampering that communication. Wait until I am done.
8. Do your part for the highest good of the household, including all spirits, entities, astral beings & other. All living people, spirits, entities, astral beings & other shall work at living together peacefully. Bullying wont be tolerated, if you have an issue, contact me.
9. We work as a team, with me being the team leader. If you have suggestions, tell me. If you are unsure to my wishes, ask me or look within. If they have doubts about something, my family is always welcome toΒ βlook withinβ for my wishes, if I am for some reason unavailable to ask.Β
10. No twisting my words.
11. No lying. Do not pretend to be something/someone you are not. Do not make anything up to make someone else look bad.
12. Disarm malicious magic that is sent my way by someone else or that is around by circumstance.
13. Keep watch over property & always be ready to act against any pending issue.
14. Help identify any possible conflicts. Help judge the character of people, spirits, entities, astral beings & other around us. This has actually been a useful rule in several situations. Its really two rules condensed into one, as well, but its how I have it written in my notebook.
Β Thats it! They are fairly long, but also fairly basic, and cover the essentials. Most rules are pretty obvious, but I would rather state the obvious then regret not stating the obvious later on. Again, this is just what I use for my house rules (its nice to have a digital copy on here as well) - you can use them if you like, add/remove rules as needed. & if you donβt do spirit work, or have spirits in your regular household, you donβt even need to have this.
Enjoy!
12 THINGS TO KNOW UPON ENTERING A LIMINAL SPACE
ENTERING THE IN-BETWEEN
1. When you enter the liminal space, you are a guest. Be respectful and do not overstay your welcome.
2. Only take what is offered to you. Do not remove objects from liminal spaces on your own accord. Take gifts that are given, but be cautious. Some tokens may have darker energies attached to them. Purify all objects regardless of the energy you feel off it when you return.
3. Do not turn around. Whatever is following you wants your attention for the wrong reasons. Stay focused. A friend will greet you face-to-face, foes like to beckon from behind.
4. Be constantly mobile. Donβt linger in one place for too long, things may attach to you without your consent.
5. Time is your enemy. It will pass quickly when youβre not paying attention. When you are paying attention, it slows. Check the clock occasionally, not obsessively, and do not forget to do so.
6. If you feel lost, do not go back the way you came, that portal is gone. You must always travel forward. Remember, youβre being followed.
7. If you feel stuck, itβs the spirits playing tricks. You are alive. You cannot be stuck. They are the ones that cannot leave. The only one that can keep you here is yourself.
8. Always carry a trinket that solaces you. It can be anything, and it does not have to be the same item every time. Ideally, this object is NOT a picture of a family member, loved one, or friend; you donβt want them knowing who you are close to.
9. Strange scents, sights, and sounds are lures from the dead. Follow them at your own risk. Sometimes, great wonders can be found. Other times⦠great horrors.
10. Traveling alone makes you more susceptible to encounters. Benign spirits tend to be timid and are only comfortable one-on-one. Aggressive spirits like to single you out and are more emboldened to contact a lone target. To increase your chances of encounters, enter the space alone. However, if you lack confidence or skill in traversing liminal spaces alone, enter with someone that shares your energy or with another hedge witch if you still want to have a chance at an encounter.
11. Donβt rely too heavily on electronics. Energies and frequencies can be manipulated and thwarted unexpectedly in liminal spaces. Aluminum batteries, phone charges and signals, cameras and recorders can all be drained, distorted, and broken. For example, bring candles and matches/lighters, watches, paper maps, and a compass just in case.
12. Be careful not to bring anything out with you unintentionally. Dishonest spirits like to become stowaways on your person. A spirit with good intentions will bond with you before accompanying you. Purify yourself once you return, this should be your first priority.
Keep in mind, this is only a short list, not an end all be all! Feel free to add your input and build up awareness of these spaces.

Wait, what's wrong with Silver RavenWolf?
Hang on, I have some linksβ¦
Essentially: much of what she writes is unethical, bigoted, a lie, or simply wrong. Sheβs the poster girl for βbad witchcraft 101 booksβ. A lot of people start out with her because her books are easy to find and attractive (for whatever reason) and end up feeling betrayed later on when they discover something she wrote and they believed isnβt actually true.
