I really think everyone needs to truly internalize this:

Fictional characters are objects.

They are not people. You cannot "objectify" them, because they have no personhood to be deprived of. They have no humanity to be erased. You cannot "disrespect" them, because they are not real.

I know this has good intentions, so I will just add the "how you treat them, even as objects of fiction, can speak about your own character, be careful out there"

Your addition is actually completely antithetical to my message. It is literally the opposite of what I am conveying.

Stop telling people to encourage the cop inside their head.

How you treat fictional characters, given they are entirely objects of fiction, does NOT necessarily speak to your own character, and you do not need to be "careful".

It is not dangerous to imagine dark things happening to fictional characters. It does not mean you are secretly a bad person. It does not mean you unconsciously want to hurt people in real life. It is not a "slippery slope" to doing bad things to people in real life. You cannot damage your brain or turn yourself into a bad person by consuming "dark" fanfic.

I can write tentacle noncon of my favorite character all day long and be a fierce anti-sexual assault advocate in real life because what I do in my head is not the same thing as what I do in real life.

Real. It has some bad/goofy moments, but on the whole it's a really good show. It didn't go 15 seasons because it sucked lol.

the point that supernatural, for me, crossed over into a narrative that couldn’t be told as a tragedy anymore (or at least it would be much more difficult) was after the season 11 finale. that’s when (again, for me) the show turned away from being a story about perpetuating the cycles of trauma became more about hope and healing

#i saw a post the other day that i think i may have even reblogged about how spn never had an everybody lives moment ninth doctor style#but after having seen the s11 finale and having that fresh on my brain: they did!!! it was the s11 finale!!!#just this once everyone lives!! and as a bonus here’s your mom back#the originating trauma of the show is mary’s death and then she’s back and yeah that’s complicated but still#and even before that i think the s11 finale treats self sacrifice so differently from previous seasons#it lingers on their reactions to that a lot: dean’s when he first finds out he’s the bomb and sam and cas’ when they’re saying goodbye#cas asking what about dean? when the sun comes back and the camera focusing on sam’s reaction to that#like yeah! what about dean? what about them? don’t they get to be happy? *flashbacks to dean asking similar questions at his dad’s grave*#s11 feels like it answers that question with yes if you work for it#esp if you take amara and the weird pull dean feels towards her as a metaphor for his darkest impulses and mental health issues like i do#s11 finale is dean choosing his life and WANTING it; saying no to an endless cycle of tragedy and choosing hope and family and healing#and it works so well!! and then…well#anyway i think if you want a tragedy s5 or s8 with some changes were both perfect tragic ending places#but after s11 like…you could do it in a way that makes narrative sense /maybe/ but the way they did it…did not#and also why would you wanna like you spent 11 seasons getting them in reach of happiness#why would you throw it away in the final 4 (via @thrivenotsurvive)

no offence but the reason tumblr is “dying” is, well, yes, of course the cursed like/reblog ratio and the change in user behaviour (because of people being used to how instagram and tiktok work) BUT also the lack of weekly shows. i say it with my whole chest, they don't produce captivating and engaging stupid weekly tv shows anymore because streaming killed that so you have spikes of activity here when Something happens in general fandom or up to three days after a new season of whatever drops and then it's a wasteland. this is obviously an old woman yelling at a cloud missing supernatural and the vampire diaries and pretty little liars and all these other shows type of post but honestly give me back weekly tv shows where i have something to watch for 40 minutes almost every day of the week after work so then i can read and reblog it on tumblr give it back for the sake of my sanity

also like i know i will be always and forever stuck in the destiel dumpster i will always be faithful to these idiots but the point is even if i wanted to move on... there is nothing new to focus on that's lasting and ongoing. and that would be nice actually. only quick full seasons strikes and if you don't consume it in two days after it airs it becomes mostly irrelevant and likely cancelled by the streaming service. just give me back the 23 episodes long tv shows again i am literally begging. the only ongoing and possibly never ending behemoth of a franchise right now is the mcu but i would rather eat my socks than engage with that again

Okay, but I can totally relate with Henry Cavill saying that he doesn't understand the need of sex scenes. Because, me too, bestie, me too.

I understand sex scenes in some shows and movies - RWRB, Bridgerton... Because the source material has them. And if you check the book (RWRB mainly, I couldn't stand the Bridgerton books) you get the idea and the reason on why they are used. Or in a show like Sense8 that explored human relationships and emotions, so yes, sex fit there.

But... In everything?? In shows and movies where the characters are underage?? (*cough*Euphoria*cough*Elite*cough*Young Royals*cough*) In fantasy?? Why do you need that there??

An example that comes to mind is how many sex and nude scenes where added to Game of Thrones, when the books have just a few and toned down compared with the TV series.

Or how every new book that drops now, is rated ton the spicy level. How about an interesting plot instead?

Like, I get, sex sells. But is that really all that matters now?

Including YR here is insane. The intimate scenes there are curated to perfection and there is always a reason behind them. Not to mention the fact that teenagers irl have sex. Maybe not all of them, but a lot do. So why not portray that aspect as well? In the most respectful way too?

It is the point of the series to be as realistic as possible. Which means including sex scenes too. You can not like it, but at least give actual fair reasons as to why you don’t instead of reducing it all to: now people are writing about minors having sex. So? Only teenagers can write about other teenagers having sex? Why does it have to always be reduced to adults vs teens?

Sex scenes serve a purpose, they are part of the story about two boys discovering each other in the most beautiful way and same for the other intimate scenes between August and Sara and August and Felice.

It’s very annoying to constantly have to go back to these kind of talks, not to mention the slight ageism that gets thrown in it as a valid reason to complain about a real problem that, at least in YR, doesn’t exist. At all.

Also putting it on the same level as Élite, which is actually problematic for many reasons, is absurd.

Also, I want to add that I find it strange that people have a problem with sex in media, but don't seem to have the same problem with gratuitous violence. Gore is fine, but two teens exploring their sexuality for the first time?? Nah, that's clearly just shoved in there because "sex sells", and couldn't possibly be relatable to teens or, idk, people who used to be teens and remember having those same feelings, right?

And I'm not even ride or die for sex scenes or anything. I'm not sitting there watching a show HOPING for sex. But I just find it odd that when there IS sex, something that is very natural and intrinsic to the human experience (for most humans anyway), then all a sudden it's a problem. Then it's unnecessary.

Idk just seems oddly puritan to me. Sex and conversations around sex are natural. It's okay to portray it media, even if it is "unnecessary." In fact, tons of things in film can be unnecessary: action, comedy, horror, wide shots, cinematography, music, lore, violence, etc. That's what makes them great! If we go down that rabbit hole, you could argue that film itself is unnecessary. If plot is all that matters to you, then you could save a lot of time by just reading the wiki summary.

People have sex in real life, so there is a place for sex in media. Especially visual media. As long as the actors are protected, the majority of this discourse is, in my opinion, a bunch of pearl clutching.

Not voting isn’t the same as a boycott. Because you can’t bankrupt a government by not voting. All you get by not voting is less control over what the money is doing.

The money comes from taxes, not voting. Abstaining from voting does nothing to reduce the governments ability to get money and spend it on shit.

So yes, sometimes you vote to reduce harm because not voting WILL NOT REDUCE HARM.

It’s not a boycot. Abstaining doesn’t take power from the government. It just reduces the number of people they feel answerable to.
