This is probably going to seem so out there but I was rewatching doctor who as one does and I’m watching the Impossible Astronaut

The scene where the Doctor is in the Oval Office and doing The Doctor thing he does and Mark Sheppard’s character Canton is obviously intrigued and at the very least a little impressed

I just imagining Rodney as Canton and John as the Doctor. Doctor has his legs propped up on the desk leaning back completely relaxed with guns facing him as long as they aren’t facing his friends. Canton being the smart ass and pointing out the inadequacy of another character while being at least vaguely impressed with the genius of the Doctor.

I don’t know I just see it and now I can’t get it out of my head 😂

I know a lot has been said about this scene and about how strong Dhawan!Master’s death wish is, but I found it especially heartbreaking after thinking about Missy’s last interaction with the Doctor.

Remember how Missy said all she had ever wanted was to stand side by side with the Doctor? Well, this is Dhawan!Master still wanting that exact same thing, probably with more intensity than ever before.

He’s just so broken, so done with everything. Ever since the Academy all he had wanted was for the Doctor to be by his side, to be his equal. But the Doctor has always acted as some superior being, both morally and intelectually, and has always tried to bring the Master to her side. The Master refuses to follow the Doctor because that would confirm her as the superior being she had always thought she was, because it would be like admitting she had been right all along. Still, he truly wants to be by her side, only that he wants her to step down to his level. He wants to stand by her under his own conditions, not hers.

And just as the Doctor always tries to reform the Master every time he comes back to her life, he keeps coming back and plotting all those evil schemes for the same reason. Because he wants to turn her into him. Because they’re two sides of the same coin, always had been.

But now he’s discovered that she really is a superior being, that they have never been the same. More than that, that he owes everything he is to her. And it breaks both of his hearts because they had never been the same, not even close. Everything he had believed during his whole existence is wrong, and all he has left is to destroy the civilization that had lied to him and then perish with them. But there’s still one thing that could make him and the Doctor be equals, and that thing is death.

He wants her to be the one taking the step, though. It has to be her the one that chooses to lower her moral values and die by his side. He hopes that after showing her all the things she had been kept from, she’s going to pull the trigger without a second thought, that they’re finally going to stand together, at least in the end. But when she refuses to do it, you can see the Master’s last hope banish from his eyes.

All he’s ever wanted, all he’s ever believed in is ripped from him in that moment.

That’s why I think that what he was going to say was:

“For just a moment there, I thought maybe… You’d stand with me.

A Vulcan named Stork works at the Terran adoption agency. Parents always request that he be the one to deliver their child to them.

It’s years before anyone explains it to him.

People keep gifting him robes with long white birds on them.

The fun thing is he would understand why people were getting him outfits with storks on them. That’s a word, it’s his name, straightforward. All the humans get him the same gag gift, but like, they’re putting effort in at least. This is a genuinely nice outfit. Stork will be a walking zero-effort pun sometimes, rather than waste a perfectly fine robe.

It’s fine. This is a readily comprehensible human illogic. Exactly the kind of thing he expected from moving to Earth.

Six years in he finds out about the stork bringing babies.

Stork has a good long meditation session about this myth, his name, his job, the outfits, the whole shebang (or whatever Vulcan concept is the equivalent).

And he decides he’s honored by it, in a humanly illogical way.

The humans are asking him to do what is after all his job, and specifically requesting him for the joy his name brings them on top of an already agreeable and satisfying task. He has no objection to engendering positive emotions in others. Harm hastens the heat-death of the universe, Surak teaches, so happiness must logically slow it down.

Plus, Vulcans of his generation love puns. There were two decades of punning competitions in colleges across the planet. So when he realizes that he is a walking zero-effort pun, and that the humans also love the pun, he is all for it. He is the Joe Cool of the entire Vulcan population in his city.

And via this pun, the humans are including him in a cherished and traditional myth, by casting him as the literal bringer of life and the expander of families.

There’s no downside. Stork wears his robes, pins, keychains, and other bird-related tchotchkes with genuine pride.

YES IT’S BACK ON MY DASH AT LAST

For real though working together with some human social workers, a Vulcan would be an excellent caretaker for children in an adoption center.

Child has a meltdown? Imagine Stork, perfectly calm and unbothered, approaching the kid and saying “You appear quite upset, Eliza. If you would please allow me to relocate you to the ‘bean-bag-chair,’ we can discuss the source of your distress.”

A Vulcan educated in medicine and child psychology would be endlessly patient with a kid with behavioral issues. Stork wouldn’t get or upset or frustrated. After all, these are children with medical and psychological conditions. It would be illogical to blame the child or to not treat them with the appropriate care.

Even if the a little one was having a bad day or was just overtired, Stork wouldn’t get angry. He might even be a calming presence. Any new kids acting out would learn real quick that they’d have better luck trying to arm-wrestle a Klingon than get a rise out of Stork.

Not only that, Vulcans live much longer than humans. Imagine Stork looking virtually unchanged as decades pass. Kids he’d helped years ago would turn up fully grown, maybe there to adopt their own kids, and run into Stork, looking almost exactly as they remember him.

And he’d probably remember them too. “Welcome back, Eliza.”

something i feel like we don’t talk about nearly enough is the fact that percy is healed by water.

it’s so normal to us because it’s one of the first abilities we discovered he has. and it makes complete sense. but like… he’s the only demigod with that ability. jason doesn’t get healed by a gust of wind. hazel doesn’t get healed if she touches a diamond. nico doesn’t get healed if a skeleton gives him a hug. annabeth doesn’t get healed if she walks into a library.

like percy could be stabbed in the chest multiple times, he could break every bone in his body, he could be slammed in the head resulting in a crushed skull and hemorrhaging, but get him to some water fast enough and not only is he good as new in no time, but he’s stronger and freshly rejuvenated.

it’s insane when you think about it. no one else can do that. do you know how hard it is to kill percy? even if he’s not near the ocean, he can be healed by rivers and lakes and streams and ponds and all sorts of water sources. water recharges him. it makes him immediately stronger.

that’s a huge reason why i argue percy is the most powerful demigod. yes, he’s shown he has incredible super strength and super speed. yes, he’s a legendary sword fighter - arguably the best one alive. yes, he has control over air, land, and sea. (deadly hurricanes with heavy winds and thunder and lighting, huge volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, etc.) yes, he’s capable of mass destruction. yes he can single handlely cause natural disasters and mass casualties. and yes, he’s capable of controlling people’s bodily fluids, including their blood and saliva. he is terrifying

but even if someone manages to beat him, he dips one toe in some water and he’s immediately healed and even stronger than before. whether the injury is internal and external. he’s healed all on his own. no ambrosia or nectar or external remedies necessary.

guys. percy is insane. he’s way overpowered.

and i love it.

You don't understand. It's not a question of being rusty. I can flip the switches. I can turn the knobs. But my power comes from here. It comes from...and it's broken.

“Good sir, if you are a resident of the United States of America and coming to visit the sunny land of Australia, allow me to inform you that you should be rather more concerned about being sucker punched by a gentleman named ‘Dane’ who is likely to be seen wearing a wifebeater with a beer company logo on it than by any of the dangerous spiders that exist on this lovely continent”.

ok so what does it say in american

“You’re more likely to get sucker punched/cold-cocked by an asshole than you are to be bitten by a spider”.

thank you
