platforming palestinian joy is just as important as sharing the suffering they're enduring during this genocide. despite continued displacement and bombardment, you cannot steal their joy and spirit. happy birthday to this sweet baby 🖤🇵🇸 may they grow up to see a free palestine

edit: @saffronlesbian made a video description for this post!!

[vd: a screen recording of a tweet from the 20th of April 2024 with 2.5 million views, from Ruhi @/ruhi_hi. the caption reads, "This video of this little Palestinian angel celebrating his bday in a refugee camp" followed by three emoji of a smiling face with teary eyes. the video clip is 11 seconds long and shows a one-year-old baby seated on the sandy ground, smiling hugely and clapping his hands while people sing to him from offscreen and a large cake is placed in front of him. stuck into the top of the cake is a decoration that reads "happy birthday" in english. the video has the tiktok handle @/ibrahim.jamal99 visible in it. /end vd.]

While Palestinian joy is important to celebrate, the father of the baby pictured here, Ibrahim, is still trapped in Rafah.

Throughout this genocide, Ibrahim has not only worked tirelessly to provide for and evacuate his family, he runs a nonprofit called Al-Nasser Charitable to feed and give back to his community.

Please consider donating to support Jamal and Ibrahim so they can celebrate more birthdays together!

I've seen a lot of fics disappear from my bookmarks, some 10+ years old, because they were added to an unrevealed collection. It makes me wonder if people realize what your fic being added to a collection actually means and if the authors approved it automatically without realizing what would happen.

If someone adds your fic to their collection, they can hide it! They can mark the collection as unrevealed and your fic will be unreadable to anyone other than them! If you're writing works for a surprise event, like a Secret Santa, this is really nice.

But if you're just writing and someone adds your fic to a collection for their own personal use and marks it as unrevealed, that. . . really sucks.

I bookmarked this fic in 2017, almost 5 years ago. Knowing me, the fic itself was probably at least a couple years old at the time I bookmarked it.

This is a 5+ year old fic that is completely inaccessible now because it was added to a collection that, as far as I can tell, is literally just for the collection owner's own reference. There's almost 30 fics in the collection, all of them unrevealed.

Please don't blindly accept collection requests and if your works ARE in a collection, make sure that they aren't being hidden without your knowledge or consent.

Are you able to remove a work from collection after you allow it or is it just a story that's just fucked?

Yes, you can remove your works! From the faq:

If you're the creator of the work:
1) Select the "Edit" button from the work's page and scroll down to the "Associations" section.
2) Select the red (×) beside the collection name you want to remove next to "Post to Collections / Challenges".
3) Select "Post" to apply the change. The work will be immediately removed from the collection.

I'm not sure if you get an alert if your fic is marked as unrevealed though, so keep an eye on the collections that your works are part of.

There's also an option in your preferences to accept collection invitations automatically. I would highly recommend making sure that that option is not selected.

I realize this might be a dirty trick pro-censorship fandom harassers might try to pull on some people, so yeah.

Boosting for visibility.

Reblogging to add my periodic reminder that I don’t accept collection requests for my fics, for this and other reasons. Collections are like anthologies. If I write a story specifically for a challenge or collection, then it goes in that collection. Otherwise it’s an automatic no.

It’s worth noting that this stuff doesn’t have to be malicious action from the person who owns the collection. A LOT of people don’t realise that collections aren’t intended to be used as rec lists or personal bookmarks, and therefore don’t realise that making changes to a collection can have this effect on the fic itself. As stated above, the author can fix this IF they notice that it’s happened. If a fic has been orphaned since being added to the collection, or if the author isn’t really active on AO3 anymore, that’s not going to happen.

Wow I didn't know that.

Welp, turns out I'm here for whatever the hell this is!

Also, have you heard of Cary Grant and his husband Randolph Scott? Because the "it was weird in retrospect" joint bank account gives off similar vibes to "we just happen to have apartments next door to each other whenever we can't live together because one of us is married".

I’m going to fight my bad feelings by talking about Candace bear with me

In the Mom’s Birthday episode the boys wake up because they hear Candace singing, and they’re all “Candace is singing” and the next time we see them is when the camera pans out of Candace’s room to show them sitting quietly in the hall outside her room and it’s like??? They literally just?? went to sit outside her room and listen to her sing??? Like??? They?? Love her so much??? After so many shows from my youth having younger siblings constantly mock and belittle and torment their older siblings having the Flynn-Fletcher boys just hide outside her room so they can listen to her sing is just. God. What kind of fictional sibling goals

Following that: It’s canon that Candace plays twenty instruments but she also OWNS all twenty of those instruments, AND a lot of expensive sound recording equipment and possibly their house has a dedicated music room, I’m a little unclear if she was in her room for that scene or in a different room and I keep forgetting to check, and given they have a musical family a dedicated music room makes sense, but whether they do or not she DEFINITELY has recording equipment IN her room, which means that her family support her musical pursuits enough to provide her with not one but T W E N T Y instruments and the relevant equipment so she can put in the work on them

One of the reasons I like Candace (and one reason I get a little protective of her in my writing and headcanons) is that she just. Like. She FLINGS herself face-first at whatever catches her interest. She’s the embodiment of “I don’t know how to like things the normal amount”. And that drives people CRAZY. And she’s AWARE of this and yet! She doesn’t know how to STOP. And it’s like. She’s really just hashtag relatable you know???

And the thing is! The thing is! Phineas is the same way. Phineas literally can’t let Isabella finish a sentence when it doesn’t have to do with their plan for the day. He goes bananas when Baljeet forces him to not invent for a couple of hours. He’ll drop entire plans that they already had going if something else gets his attention. That lazer-guided focus on whatever they’re paying attention to? That’s a trait they share.

And Phineas gets rewarded for it. Canonically, the only difference between Phineas and Candace re: achieving their goals is that Phineas has Good Luck Energy and Candace has Bad Luck Energy. Like it’s easy to write off that with Candace it’s that her goals are selfish but even when her goals aren’t selfish, she still loses. She spent the entire Swap Meet Episode (by the way, that’s another one of those western animation staples. why the hell is “swap meet episode” a staple?) arranging all of these ridiculous trades so she could get something valuable to her and at the last minute the universe still pulled the rug out from under her. And it’s honestly? Kind of bullshit.

Candace deserves better.

One of the reasons I really like Jeremy for Candace is that he’s like, this amazing thing that Candace is allowed to have with no repercussions. Jeremy likes Candace the way she is, obsessive drive and all. Any time she’s changed something about herself for him he’s been on board right up until he found out it was for him. Candace is acting weird and British? Well her British cousins are visiting, obviously she’s just having fun. Oh, Candace thinks that will make him like her more? Can’t have that, time to remind her that he just really likes her.

And like. One of the BEST pieces of writing in PnF is that Candace and Jeremy actually GROW. Like she starts out trying to hide all of these parts of herself from him but by season four she can actually admit her insecurities to him and he’ll listen and reassure her. By the end Jeremy is completely aware that Candace is this big ol’ mess of a person and he’s still with her because he likes that big ol’ mess of a person. He’s SO good to her and for her and ugh god I love them so much even if I literally NEVER talk about them.

SPEAKING OF JEREMY. That episode where she made the popup scrapbook about him for his birthday? That is some HIGH level obsession but it’s also, I mean, it’s SUPER creative. And I admit it takes a very specific type of person to truly appreciate that kind of dedication while not being ego-driven enough to only focus on the part that’s about him.

Cause like. Candace’s dedication could get her SO badly hurt if she threw it at someone too selfish. Someone who just liked the attention but didn’t appreciate the person behind it. But no! Jeremy likes the attention, sure, but he likes all the things that they mean about CANDACE. He likes the scrapbook because it’s creative and sentimental and because Candace poured all of her affection for him into it, not because it’s just “look how great you are”. He just. Really really likes her.

Cut off where I started to get into my specific fanfiction territory so this isn’t the whole post but I’m submitting this as propaganda for Candace for @he-would-not-fucking-say-that because it expands on the ideas on my original submission

I'm sorry if you've already answered something like this, but I was wondering why you shipped Allisaac? I didn't watch 3b, and so may have missed stuff (though I know the plot via tumblr and gifs). It's just the knife thing at the end of S2 makes me very uncomfortable, and seeing gifs of Isaac holding the daggers after her death seems strange to me. However I've looked through your Allisaac tag and there's some good stuff there, so I was curious about your interpretation of the characters.

(tw for mentions of abuse)

the allison/isaac relationship goes miles and miles and miles past what you’ve seen so far, trust me.

for starters, there’s forgiveness. allison hurt isaac, badly—and isaac tried to kill her best friend, and at one point very nearly killed her. they both apologize, they both deal with it, and they both forgive. they develop a really wonderful banter, and the way they interact with each other is absolutely gorgeous.

isaac is one of the only other abuse survivors on the show and he and allison connect a lot over that. unfortunately, it’s not explicitly stated, and there’s no real attention paid by the writers to allison’s abuse (of course, why would they deal with that, frowns forever), but when allison is at her absolute lowest, it’s isaac who pulls her back together, and when isaac starts falling apart, it’s allison who keeps him in one piece.

so they both forgive one another after doing less than wholesome things, they develop a very easy sort of interaction that shows them really being good friends, their mutual interest in helping scott (and in scott) bringing them to work together. from there on out it’s really only a matter of time before that partnership becomes a friendship.

i think that allison and isaac are well-matched. isaac is at a physical advantage over allison, being a werewolf, and so allison would have to use weaponry to keep herself safe from him. at the time of the events in the s2 finale, allison was in the midst of some truly horrific abuse from her grandfather, was all but brainwashed, and her mother’s suicide was being used as a means of manipulating and controlling her.

they both recognize that the other is a survivor. in ‘unleashed’ (3x04), isaac has a panic attack and injures allison. he’s about to injure her much worse when he’s stopped by scott, and as soon as isaac knows what happened, he apologizes profusely, and allison insists, it’s not your fault. it’s not your fault. it’s okay. he didn’t mean it.

they understand being triggered, they understand being hurt in ways that they can’t really know how to explain. and they work together well, i think in part because of that. they know they can be vulnerable around each other, because they know they’ll understand.

i also really love that they don’t expect very much from the other. isaac didn’t need her to be his anchor, like scott did (through no fault of his own, mind), and allison didn’t want to be looked after. and they were both able to do that for each other. their relationship was very much one centered around mutual support and affection, and around the idea of not needing anyone else to protect them. they were with one another at the absolute worst, they wanted the other around at the absolute best.

(and it’s heartbreaking that, in the finale, isaac is the one to decipher what allison was trying to say, because he knows her well enough that he knows what she would have wanted the others to know. they work together even at the very end.)

they are each others’ emotional tethers. isaac brings allison back when she sacrifices herself for the nemeton; isaac brings allison back when she panics and can’t shoot, even though he’s in incredible pain. and allison is isaac’s lighthouse, in a sense—when he’s lost, he goes to find her.
