Maybe misusing the name of God isn’t so much about saying the shallow words, “Oh my God,” as it is about using the name of God to justify discrimination, oppression, injustice, racism, slavery, xenophobia, poverty, sexism, islamophobia, ableism, homophobia, war, & the list can go on.
There is fullness in living by the Spirit you won’t find chasing other desires. There is true peace and joy in finding rest for your heart in your Creator. There is healing in drawing close to His heartbeat and crying tears during moments only He sees. There is comfort for that ache in your chest in exposing pain inside you that only He knows how deeply you feel. There is wisdom in sitting at His feet, just to learn, listen, just to hear His voice speak and lead you.
There is sweetness in His presence always.
“Faith wouldn’t be real faith if you only believed when things are good.”
— Eli Rigler, Grey’s Anatomy (”One Day Like This”)
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
— Romans 5:8 (NIV)
In honor of Good Friday, here is Jed Brewer’s beautiful, contemplative version of The Old Rugged Cross.

Being Christian is a responsibility, not just heaven someday. You carry love in you, so when you are cold and compromise love, you misuse the gift of His presence and kindess toward you. It’s unfair to want God to forgive you of all your sins and then turn to hold men accountable for their sins against you.
“Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.”

“Arise my body, my small body, we have striven Enough, and He is merciful; we are forgiven.”
— After Prayers, Lie Cold | C.S. Lewis
“God wants you to do the things love demands of you, not the things guilt demands of you.”
