We have facility dogs that go with people like first responders. They go to court houses and schools. We also have hearing dogs. If we have a high energy dog that might be too much for somebody with a disability but loves to go out and explore, they could be search and rescue. We have early alert dogs for people with diabetes. Even our released dogs can very often become therapy dogs. It’s not really a factor of intelligence; the most important thing is temperament. Trainers really can teach them to do anything as long as they want to do the work. I wouldn’t say raising service dogs makes life worth living, but it makes me have a better life. It gets me out more, it gets me engaging with people more, it makes me feel better that I’m doing something on some days that doesn’t feel like much is happening.” @canineorg
