As irrational as it is, Clarke's heart stops when she sees the name Octavia Blake.

She's in Motostoke for the opening ceremony of the yearly Gym Challenge, reading idly through the list of challenger names out of a lack of anything else to do. This is her third year reporting on the challenge for the Hammerlocke Herald, and already, the opening ceremony is her least favorite part. There's nothing to report, unless some famous kid has showed up, and that's kind of reporting Clarke doesn't like. She and Wells were those kids when they did their challenges, and she hated how much more attention she got than everyone else, how she was getting interviews before she even beat a single gym. Existing as Clarke Griffin was enough to make her news.

So it's Clarke's policy to interview no one until they make it past the third gym, not until they have accomplishments of their own to talk about instead of just who sponsored them and which Pokémon they've caught. It's the treatment she wanted herself; the best she can do now is to pass it along to others.

Still, Octavia Blake catches her eye. Even aside from her name, the press profile is interesting. Nathan Miller is her sponsor, and she's the only person he's sponsored. Miller doesn't know a lot of kids, as far as Clarke knows, but he knew Bellamy. They did their challenge together. And Octavia has a full team, six registered Pokémon already. She doesn't have to keep all six for the rest of the challenge, but most of the other kids her age haven't got more than two or three.

And, of course, her last name is Blake. It doesn't have to mean anything, but it could. Clarke wants it to.
