the lack of fics/ fandom content about Ciri and yennefer beautiful doughter/mother relationship is a shame. In the books their connection is so important... Ciri saves yen from villegfortz, chooses to be named "cirillla of vengerberg" in honor of her mother, calls yen "mummy" multiple times.
My headcanon about Yennefer and Sabrina is that they are actually really close friends but pretend to have a rivalry in front of other people. Sometime after the lightning challenge one of the failed novices (not Anica obviously) bullies Yennefer and Sabrina stands up for her. They become unlikely friends quickly and among their peers find it difficult to explain how/why they became friends so they just began a faux rivalry that has now lasted decades.
i wake up every day thinking about "i've searched so long. fought so long. hurt so many. and it was all worth it. no matter where you go or where you hide, we will never be apart. destiny brought us together. never lost. always found. i love you, my daughter." and crying all over again
I really don't understand how anyone could validate Oleander's way of teaching MC. Disrespect, demeaning and constantly throwing barbed insults are not in fact good tools of education. I do not care that MC knows nothing of the world they're in or of the depth of danger it holds. It was the same in book 1 and they survived. This is just a pedantic douche who behaves exactly like any other Fey would and uses the guise of 'it's for your education' to make them seem like a better person than they are. Enslaving someone is never and will never be the solution to anything. Especially not to get a point across that MC has already experienced first hand. Hello Radiance's betrayal? Hello almost getting killed by Beast Kieran? Let's not pretend MC's an ingenue (it's on the writers for making behave like one if she does). They chose to trust Oleander because Kieran told them they could. MC has a good heart and people keep making them feel like it's wrong and has no place even though it's literally the only reason the Moon Court still exists?
Back on Oleander, it's like y'all will take any representation and eat it up. MC has every right to be angry and feel disrespected by this stranger who keeps being straight up awful to them in the name of a cause they don't even really understand and no one will explain without mocking or making them feel entirely stupid for not knowing. Imagine teaching a child about the world like that. Oh? You don't already know everything? Oh you think that...let me stop you right there, you're not allowed to think on your own except if it's exactly the way we all already do. Oh you want to be yourself? Dumb mistake right there, let me constantly demean you as a way to teach you to be like one of us. You're perhaps a decent baby, but amongst adults you won't be able to pretend well enough to survive. Do you realize how insane that sounds?
You know what, this is exactly the type of thinking and way of doing things that fosters exactly the state of the fey courts today. I'm starting to think this Jack with the blade might have a point. Courts must be destroyed along with their antiquated, classists views where slavery is still a thing because humans aren't considered people, rather toys to play with.
Don't even come for me with the 'they're just brutally honest', that's the justification any asshole uses to be mean. As if the discourse being in any way purposeful in the mind of the person who says it dismisses any and all damage it can do. Intent doesn't disregard impact.
I am in no way saying people are not allowed to like a character that is mean. I'm just saying embrace the nefariousness instead of trying to justify it and pretend it's a good thing. Sometimes 'they're hot' is all you need to like a character. Look at the good it did for Nate Archibald.
Between Crimes of Passion and The Cursed Heart, Choices is really good at coming up with flame-related mourning rituals.
(And finally, BONUS: Quotes from *other* characters in The Cursed Heart that straight-up sound like Shakespearean poetry, because the writers of this book just do. not. rest.)
(I donβt know if this was directed a certain way but I love how Emma restrains Regina in this. I used to work law enforcement at a jail and this is fairly proper frontal holding. The way Emmaβs right arm is pushed on her clavicles restrains a person from attempting a headbutt or biting and with force will pretty quickly knock the wind out of them. Her left hand is gripping Reginaβs lower palm and thumb, rather than just the wrist, keeping the hand from being able to move or grip anything. Both these grips plus pushing force will cause the other person to easily lose their center balance so even if Regina tried to kick Emma, her balance would be lost and she would slip downward causing herself to be choked on Emmaβs forearm. I love this because it shows Emma very much knows how to restrain an attack as a bail bonds person.)
Something I really really love about the Witcher books is how a lot of the story is about taking back agency over your own body. I don't think we talk about this enough ( I hope Netflix will show that a little more too)
Both Yen and Geralt have had horrible stuff done to them. Geralt's transformation might have been more physically extreme but both have been changed without their consent, knowledge and regards for their well being or mental health. And we meet them on the other end of those changes. (And of course we see more things done to them against their will or consent or with consent given under some form of duress).
We get to see Ciri at the beginning of all that. The entire plot is about how lots of people want to use her for her blood and genes with no regards for what she wants. She has to make sacrifices and changes in order to survive. A lot of the story is about how Yen and Geralt are trying to protect her (sometimes failing) from people who would use her body.
Even secondary characters like Milva share a bit of that story as well.
I think it's a really important part of the story, probably a lot more important than the monsters side. The books are focused on finding your family and taking back control over yourself, your body and your life and I think that's an interesting topic to explore
Yennefer goes through the five stages of grief only to end up with searching for revenge for Tissaia.
Yes. I can see everything from denial to acceptance before she's searching for revenge for everything Vilgefortz did to her.
But while all of this happens her first priority will still be to find Ciri and make sure she has a save place when they found her.
I really hope that she is the one who fights Vilgefortz in the end and that she is the one who kills him but I am worried that they will let Ciri do that...
