1. If your OC could live anywhere they wanted, where would they choose?

1a. If their ideal location is not where they currently reside, what is preventing them from moving there? Is it financial, situational, scientifically impossible, etc.?
1b. Have they ever been to this location before? If not, is it a real place they've read about/seen pictures of, or is it a hypothetical place they daydream about?

2. If your OC does not have any particular place in which they'd like to stay, do they prefer life on the road?

2a. If so, is that a lifestyle they currently enjoy, or are they stuck somewhere and wish they could take up traveling?
2b. If not, what is their preferred living situation?
2c. If they travel for work/obligation but don't enjoy it, would they enjoy it more if the traveling was on their own terms or through a different mode of transportation?
2d. When traveling, does your OC have any favorite spots they like to revisit when they can?

3. What mode of travel would/does your OC prefer? (Ex: RV, spaceship, hiking, train, etc.)

3a. How common is it for their setting? How would someone make arrangements to travel by this method (is it expensive, cheap, free, exclusive to a contract, etc.)?

4. How many times, if any, has your OC moved [to live somewhere else]?

4a. What were the circumstances?
4b. What is the longest they have ever lived in the same place? If they have lived in the same place their whole life, how old are they?
4c. If applicable, what is the shortest amount of time they've stayed at a place?

5. When moving or traveling, how many belongings does your OC typically take with them? What do they consider essential?

5a. Who else, if anyone, is with them? Are they agreeable traveling/living companions, or do they not get along? Do they travel together often or rarely?
5b. Who else, if anyone, would your OC prefer to have as a traveling/living companion?

1. Which OC employs Bait-and-Switch techniques to get what they want?

1a. How successful are they, and how often do they they try it?
1b. Is there an OC who never falls for it?

2. Which OC is generally blunt about what they want?

2a. What responses do they usually get?
2b. Is there an OC who is numb/accustomed to their straightforwardness?

3. Which OC almost never outright asks for things or expresses their desire for something, even if they really want it?

3a. What is their reason behind this, and how often do they end up getting what they want?
3b. Do they give any [subtle or not] hints about their feelings, or do they remain fully passive?
3b. Is there a scenario in which they would decide to speak up?

4. What do your OCs consider 'rude,' 'unpleasant,' or 'polite' behavior? Is there overlap? How do those opinions vary between them?

4a. Do 'polite' and 'pleasant' mean the same thing to them? If not, how do these definitions differ?

5. If someone wanted a favor from your OC, what would be the best way to ask them?

5a. If this OC is the type to only do favors for select people, what is their reason for that, and which characters would they actually try to help out?
5b. Conversely, are there characters they would refuse to help? Who are they, and what is their relationship to this OC?

1. If your OC saw or met a ghost, what would their reaction be?

2. If your OC otherwise does not believe in supernatural explanations/occurrences, is there one particular supernatural occurrence they would accept?

2a. What is their rationalization of it, and why is it different for them than any other? Did they have a prior experience with the subject in question?

3. If your OC generally accepts or believes in supernatural phenomena, is there a particular supernatural occurrence/explanation they do not accept?

3a. If so, what is their rationalization of it? Why is it different for them?

4. Which OC believes in a handful of supernatural phenomena, but not others? What criteria does a subject have to meet before this character will subscribe to believing in/accepting its existence?

1. What were the most formative experiences in your OC's early childhood?

1a. Was it a single highly impactful moment, or a prolonged period of circumstance (stable or otherwise) that gave them their earliest impression of the world they live in and the people in it?

2. Has this perception changed or remained more or less the same?

2a. If it has remained the same, what would it take to alter this character's perception?
2b. If it has changed, when did they start thinking differently, and what happened to cause this? Do they feel they have changed for the worse, or for the better?
2c. Additionally, how has their behaviour changed alongside the shift in their perception? Do they decide to act the same as they always have, or did something change in their demeanor as well? Do any of the other characters notice?

tips on how to write best friends? by preference a healthy relationship :3

Hmmm! This will be long.

So, to start, (before we get into modifiers like healthier vs more toxic dynamics) here's a list of some Classic Best-Friend Behaviors. They won't fit everyone, so feel free to disregard at will:

  • Best-Friends are usually among the first to know about any big news or notable anecdotes in each other's lives [because they talk so often].
If one of them is not available to talk soon after some major incident, the other is probably thinking about how much they wish they could tell them about it Right Now and wondering what/how they are doing.
  • Like most friends, there are probably a lot of in-jokes between them.
For story purposes, it would be best to include the moment they are referencing either through a full scene that occured earlier (before they start joking about it) or through a brief explanation in the narrative, so readers can enjoy the context.
Bonus points if this in-joke has a greater narrative significance, ex: this is how one character can be positive they are speaking to their Best-Friend and not an Impostor, or it becomes a hidden message to communicate something important later.
  • Incidental things will often remind them of each other, like seeing something in a shop or hearing a story their Best-Friend would love. They tend to know each other's taste and are very good at picking out gifts for each other.
If another character is struggling to figure out what to get Character B as a gift, or they want to know something personal about B, they might ask B's Best-Friend. How this Best-Friend responds will vary according to their characterisation and the circumstances.
  • If a character knows something is troubling their Best-Friend, they will want to rush over and help them or give them solace through being there and talking in person, even if this is impossible due to distance/financial constraints. Likewise, if a character is feeling down, they likely wish their Best-Friend was there to talk and hang out.
  • And like any other relationship, Best-Friends can get into big disagreements and argue with each other.
What warrants fighting about something is going to vary from character to character. Some people never get into heated arguments, while others are ready to jump into the metaphorical (or not) ring over a slight.
If your best friend characters are going to fight, make sure it makes sense to their characters. If they're not the type to argue, consider whether this is a Last Straw scenario or if the transgression was a Really Big Deal, Actually. Likewise, if they're hotheaded, consider how/if they would keep their temper in check when arguing with someone they care about.

The rest is going under a cut because the long post function has been messing up on the dash recently.
