Kirk  feels  a  little  twist  in  his  stomach  for  changing  the  conversation  in  the  way  he  has.       he  promised  himself  he’d  stay  in  the  moment       &       focus  on  nothing  but  her       &       the  lovely  surroundings.       however,       their  departure  is  near.       Jim  tries  to  keep  a  light  air  about  him  in  his  responses  despite  how  he  will  eventually  fail.      

she  knows  his  propensity  for  feeling  too  much.       ❝          you  do       ?          ❞       he  asks  with  a  teasing  tone,       brows  raising  afterward,       impressed.       ❝          so  you  won’t  give  me  any  more  of  ‘you’re  a  mess,  you’re  gonna  die  in  a  ditch  like  this’  kind  of  talk       ?          ❞       he  laughs.      

his  tone  is  light,       dissipating  faster  than  the  steam  emanating  from  his  cup.       he  offers  the  avenger  a  nod  of  approval.       ❝          i  do,       BY  HEART.       and  you  can  always  hail  the  Enterprise.       we  might  not  be  as  fast  as  you  at  max  warp,       but  even  then.          ❞       he’s  seen  the  flight  readings  of  the  blonde.       as  much  as  he  hates  having  the  Enterprise’s  glamor  shadowed,       he  cannot  deny  cold  facts  either.

her lips part to sigh & she nods. despite his attempts at levity, her expression remains serious. they'd gotten much closer than they should have, but there was hardly any point in thinking about it. it's a reality that she has to face ( sooner or later ). ❛   obviously not; i'd need to be around for that to happen.   ❜ now she's being too . . . weird. ❛   besides, when you are back with your crew, they will take care of you, so i can rest easy knowing that you have people to fall back on.   ❜ HE started this, right ?

her gaze narrows as she picks up on the sudden tension in his body, even if he seems to recover quickly. he is hardly the only one in this line of business who doesn't mix with hospitals. «  how about letting me help you patch up, then ? i'm not an expert, but i manage.  » Carol can't in good conscience leave him like this. «  depends who you ask. sometimes i'm the villain. comes with the job.  » she SMILES. «  hope they got my good angle, at least. you're pretty brave. thanks for the help.  »

. Anger, it is usually what triggers the WORST in him, the DARKEST parts he tries to cage, to forget. His mother tried to do so as well, but little did she know her success was only temporary, a wall surrounding his memories for until destiny chooses to taken it down. It is now. 

His hands are shaking, eyes wide in disbelief and DISGUST in himself. Did he do that? Those hands that are meant to heal, to alleviate, they are the same hands covered in the blood of a few humans. The memory of it calms him somehow, as if by this recollection his actions are justified, unlike his usual self. His eyes are back to normal, slowly, or maybe they are lifeless, his hands drop in his lap, bloody and dirty.   ❝  I…  ❞   Hesitant, or maybe exhausted, he tries to answer.   ❝  …can’t.  ❞   Which question he means is a mystery for them to figure if they wish. 

❛   that's okay, we'll go slow.   ❜ the blonde tells him, azures tracking his every movement, every twitch in his expression. he's genuine. there's no way to fake these kinds of emotions & reactions, but she has this hunch that there's much more to this than meets the eye. ❛   let's try something else, can you tell me if you are hurt ? you seem to be all right to me, but i want to get you some medical attention if you need it.   ❜ the blood isn't his, but @sanatoris could have injuries that she can't see.

Carol hovers above the ground, still keeping her palms in the air while approaching him slowly. ❛   mind if i come over ? it will be easier to TALK if we are not yelling across the room.   ❜ once she gets his approval, she stops at a proper distance away. ❛   i'm Carol, by the way. what's your name ?   ❜ she smiles, gently removing her red belt to offer it to him so he can wipe his hands & face off the blood. ❛   i know you don't remember what happened, can you tell me how you got here ? did they follow you here ?   ❜

eyes linger on the expectant mother for a moment , before realizing that her words spoke a truth higher than perhaps they had both been willing to admit . jim was now one of the most accomplished captains in all of starfleet . surpassing even spocks previous commander . the trust that they both had in jim was vast . && carol was correct . ABOVE ALL ELSE , && she also knew her husband more than most people . even the commander . ❝ the planets people below have an inherent distrust of vulcans due to their shared history with romulans , my going down would not be advisable . it would put not just the captain at risk , but also every SINGLE SOUL on this vessel . ❞ his jaw tensed .

❝ unfortunately , i believe sending down anyone else would indicate that the federation do not have faith in our captain or his negotiations . they are .. a dubious race . rightfully so in some aspects but it posses nothing but issues for us . ❞ he turned to look a her , then back towards the helm . ❝ lieutenant uhura , please transfer all communications to the captains ready room . mr sulu , please pull a considerable distance from the planet . carol && i will wait there . mr sulu , please take the con . ❞

it's just another day aboard the Enterprise, she tells herself while pacing about to keep herself occupied. Jim should have been back hours ago, & having no word isn't reassuring, yet it doesn't mean the end of the world either. complications are bound to arise during missions, they all know that. however, they need to figure out what's going on down there. the most logical solution is to send someone down here. ❛   maybe not if it's another officer, but what about a CIVILIAN ? more specifically, the captain's pregnant wife ?   ❜ she's hardly a civilian, but that's not the point.

❛   you have to send me down there, Commander.   ❜ Carol tells him as soon as they leave the bridge. ❛   i know it sounds insane, & maybe it is, but what sort of threat could i pose to anyone like this ?   ❜ none. ❛   not only do i speak the language, including all the dialects, but this is a civilization that prioritizes family life & has close ties with the Kree empire.   ❜ in other words, there's no better person to interfere. ❛   they won't dare harm me, my baby, or Jim once they know who i am.   ❜ it's a RISK she's willing to take, despite how upset Kirk will be later. ❛   i'm prepared to take responsibility for my actions. consider sending Mr. Barton as my escort. it wouldn't be irrational for a pregnant woman to have protection.   ❜

it’s  not  her  he  has  any  doubts  about.       despite  his  unwavering  exterior       &       steel-sharp  frowns,       Kirk  is  still  a  man.       &       men  have  insecurities       &       fears  that  try  to  keep  them  imprisoned  at  every  turn.       although  he  tries  to  be  the  pinnacle  of  strength       &       valor,       as  he  takes  a  few  steps  towards  the  eerie  village,       he  almost  wonders  if  he  can  pull  this  off.

a  voice  in  his  head  comes  to  his  quick  defense,       reminding  him  that  he’s  Jim  freaking  Kirk       &       that  he’s  come  out  victorious  from  under  every  obstacle  in  his  life,       even  his  tainted  childhood.       it  is  strange  to  him  that  there  isn’t  a  single  soul  to  intercept  him.      

he  was  hoping  that  at  least  a  member  of  his  crew  would  come  out  to  attack  him,       which  means  that  the  witch’s  vision  is  more  expansive  than  he  supposed.

he  can  only  hope  she  did  not  hear  or  see  him  with  Danvers.       then,       a  mysterious  figure  approaches  him,       dressed  in  all  black,       her  outfit  bending  to  the  wind's  will  like  it  is  smoke.       she  introduces  herself  as  Morgana,       the  witch  of  Sarnath                           the  planet  Jim  already  knows  plenty  about.

if  Carol  is  close  enough,       she  must  see  the  charming  smile  on  the  captain’s  face  as  he  converses  with  the  enemy,       not  a  single  motion  of  hesitance  in  his  movements  nor  a  display  of  insecurities  he  buried  deep  within.       his  crew  is  in       DANGER.       nothing  matters  more  than  their  lives,       more  than  the  Enterprise.      

of  course,       his  exchange  with  the  witch  is  woven  with  nothing  but  lies,       the  witch  promising  him  to  help  find  his  crew,       but  that  she  must  make  preparations       &       gather  her  men.       the  problem  comes  from  how       POWERFUL       she  is.      

there’s  a  spell  cast  upon  him  whenever  her  eyes  meet  him,       almost  making  him       BELIEVE       her.       he  sees  things  that  are  not  there  as  they  venture  into  the  caverns.       there  are  strange  creatures  surveying  their  convoluted  path  downward.       there  for  a  moment,       not  following.      

he  feels  groggy  when  he  gives  his  back  to  a  giant  piece  of  rock  that  must  have  been  carved  to  set  someone  down.       a  familiar  voice  calls  to  him  next,       prompting  him  to  pull  up  his  heavy  head.       what  if  she’s  not  real       ?       he  doesn’t  answer  the  blonde,       wondering  if  she  will  disappear  into  thin  air.

so far, so good. at least it doesn't seem like the lieutenant has been found out yet. however, it all seems a bit too quiet. it's almost eerie, making her wonder what the witch's true objective is here. could it be the captain ? is it all a plan to lure him into her lair ? it would hardly be the first time someone wants to get their hands on him. sometimes, he plays the charming card a little too well. not that it is any of her business, & this is NOT the time for this !

perhaps it is a blessing in disguise that she's not bumping into anyone. although that could mean that every living being here is gathering in one place for some sort of big event, better stay away from whatever that is.

❛   captain ?   ❜ Carol hovers by the threshold, throwing glances over her shoulder while whispering in his direction. he seems rather out of it. ❛   sir ?   ❜ she waves at him since he's looking right at her. the lady sighs, stepping forward. ❛   get it together, Mr. Kirk. this is no time to act like sleeping beauty.   ❜ her hand is on his shoulder so he can see that she's real.

❛   we don't have much time. did she tell you anything of value ? did you see anything interesting on the way in ?   ❜ any information that he has would be USEFUL, so she's not flying blind here. ❛   it's pretty empty out there, which will work in my favor to explore. we just need you to keep her busy.   ❜ is he even listening to her ? ❛   do you understand, sir ?   ❜

how to get his attention ? no. let's leave the impulsive kissing to him. ❛   apologies.   ❜ she pinches his arm, waiting until his gaze truly focuses on her. ❛   how about you call her back here while i hide & listen to your conversation, huh ? that way, you don't have to relay anything.   ❜ there are a few smaller rock formations that should keep her concealed if he makes sure she's not looking that way. ❛   keep her back to me & don't look in my direction.   ❜

she gets into position, wondering if he understood anything until he begins to call for his BELOVED . . .
