โWhy did you lie to me?โ
You felt your body slam against the wall. A beat of silence passes as panic swells. You could feel the waves of tension rolling off your back. Your mind began to race, attempting to recollect your thoughts but it's no use. You feel overwhelmed almost instantly. One with Steve's constant badgering and two with the sudden worry that something is wrong. Very wrong.
โI asked you a question, Y/N. You knew where Bucky was, and you let him go?โ You could hear the sudden change in Steve's voice. The assertiveness he would use with new recruits, his "Captain" voice; the one to intimidate and yank out the truthโ he was using it one you. You never figured you would be on the other side of darkness that leered over Captain America and all that surrounded him. But here you are, and you weren't prepared at all.
You didn't have a good answer. Well, you did but it wasn't suitable for Steve. Especially when Bucky was missing yet again.
"I don't know." You mumbled.
"You don't know? That's bullshit Y/N, and you know it!" You took a shaky breath, knowing no matter what this wasn't going to be easy for either one of you.
"Steve-"
"No! No- and when we're you planning on telling me any of this?"
Never. You wanted to say never. The privacy and intimacy on this past weekend was something you wanted to keep locked away in your soul forever, but forever seemed to float away in a minute. Your eyelids fluttered shut.
You wished you slammed the door when you saw Steve. You knew what he was here for and instead, because you're a decent person, you allowed him in. Now everything is ruined.
โI was, but-โ Your voice was barely a whisper, you couldnโt understand how you allowed yourself to cave under the pressure known as Steve Rogers but you did. You were truly frightened by how mad he had gone.
โBut what?โ Deep breath.
โBut he insisted I didnโt say I word.โ The sneer that was forming on his face fell almost instantly. His eyes soften and his mouth fell agape. Steve knew who he was. It wasnโt hard to gather, you didnโt have to be Captain America to figure it out.
Steve took a few steps back from you, finally allowing you your space. He was heartbroken, why did Bucky skip town aafter saving Steveโs life? He had so many questions for Bucky, and at the very least wanted a hug. It has been 70 years.
โI know youโre angry.โ
โI think weโre way past that.โ He corrected sternly. He shouldered past you as he found a spot on your couch. His eyes found yours and there was nothing but coldness in his blue irises.
โTell me what happened.โ He ordered. You eyes began to widen.
โI don't think you want to hear all the gory details-โ
โNow, Agent. I don't have all day. If I'm not looking for Bucky, Hydra sure is.โ Fuck, he had a point and that tantalizing detail struck you down.
โYou love him?โ
"I barely know him."
"Then why are you keeping the whereabouts of a stranger a secret?"
You didn't love him and you barely know him. But that didn't mean you didn't yearned for him.
