Hedonism Rat

@senalishia

They/them. Fandom old. Half social justice discourse, half Tolkien fanart. Other fandoms may crop up without warning. (Posts The Magnus Archives content @double-moonlight-lonelyeyes.) Self diagnosed rat-adjacent. I can be found on Twitter, Dreamwidth, AO3, and Deviantart as 'senalishia'.

some people are so used to mostly consuming media where the women and people of color are static set dressing in stories about white men that they can't wrap their heads around the concept that female characters and characters of color can have arcs of their own. they'll see a character who's not a white man display a personality flaw that is clearly being set up to be overcome and they see it not as the setup of what promises to be an enticing character journey, but as an essential defining trait of their being, and proceed to demonize such characters for it. white men get to be dynamic and complex, women and people of color get essentialism and a pressure for likeability over good storytelling.

can you explain the ai thing to me as though I were a small child I am in fact very stupid and don't understand what the point being made was supposed to be

the point i am trying to make it that ai is fundamentally a labor issue (and just more broadly a capitalism issue) and should be treated as such, any attempts at trying to classify what makes something "not real art" is a slippery slope leading towards fascism and fundamentally irrelevant in the fight against unethical (uses of) AI. the same goes for any attempts at just making copyright laws more strict, this has never helped any independent artists and never will, at best it'll make any sort of derivative art (including fanart, remixes, collages, etc) basically impossible to do unless you're a massive corporation with an unlimited legal budget.

I really really hate the self-reinforcing shame loop society tries to push on people, where because 'no one does this thing' that most people would love to do, no one does the thing that people would love to do because people will call them a freak

most people think capes are cool. No One Wants To Be The Cape Guy.

most people like some kind of music that isn't Top 40s Pop and/or Country. No One Wants To Be The Pretentious Guy Talking About Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

most allo people, on some level, fantasize about dating their favourite fictional characters. No One Wants To Be The Guy Who Married The Pony Tulpa.

there's a reason I've decided to be the freak of nature I am; someone's gotta break the shame loop. because it's bullshit, and if we got rid of it, a lot more people would be a lot happier.

i do desperately need everyone on this website especially people who arent american but want to rag on america to familiarize themselves with the basic romanized spelling conventions of native american languages because every day i come on here and i see people making fun of massachusetts or connecticut or mississippi or passamaquoddy or mashpee or nipissing and its like PLEASE. PLEASE THEY ARENT ENGLISH WORDS. PLEAAAAASEEEEEUUUHHH. USE YOUR MINDS TO IDENTIFY WHEN A WORD LOOKS LIKE IT MAY NOT BE ENGLISH. I DONT CARE IF YOU MAKE FUN OF AMERICA JUST PLEASE STOP BEING RACIST WHILE YOU DO IT

Map I found showing which states got their names from where. Over half of the states come from Indigenous languages.

The thing that's crazy about it is it'd be one thing if they didn't speak English as well but most of them do. If it doesn't seem like a word that would come out of your own mouth with the mouth-sounds you may perhaps commonly use (whether as a first or second language) for chrissakes look it up.

The US placenames people should actually be making fun of:

  • Louisville KY (its not pronounced like that)
  • Lafayette GA (its not pronounced like that)
  • Snowflake AZ (you can't name a place snowflake when its hotter than hell there)

Snowflake is in northeastern Arizona. It snows there.

"Oh cmon, obviously i dont think you should force yrself to do versions of it that are making you really uncomfortable but that doesn't mean you should give up finding the version that works for you. (This definitely exists, btw. Ik this a priori, bc the thought it might not is too uncomfortable for me to contemplate. Also the costs of searching are negligible and so no excuse not to submit to the quest.)"

This line of thinking is grating when it comes to art, infuriating when it comes to food, and abuse when it comes to drugs or sex

Call me crazy, but sometimes Fëanor's "What I have left behind I count now no loss; needless baggage on the road it has proved." is good life advice

If I may add, "Let those that cursed my name curse me still."

honestly his entire speech is actually really helpful if you're stuck in a depressive rut. SHALL I mourn here, deedless and in vain? or will I make a change?

[world's most annoying poster, after spending six hours talking about how much they hate a certain group of people, upon being told that's mean] but why do you need my validation? why are you so self-obsessed that you think you get to have any say on my 400 page treatise about why you, specifically, should be catapulted into the sun? the mere fact that you read my description of a person exactly like you being catapulted into the sun and thought I was talking about you is telling. a true sage would know that I'm Just A Little Guy And It's My Birthday and allow my words to simply slide off them, so when you think about it it's really your fault for letting it get to you. the what-about-me effect online is honestly reaching critical levels.
