Okay so I've a few small headcanons for a few of these.

• Hanji, like Armin, Grew up with their grandparents, cause I headcanon that their mom was a doctor for the survey corps & up in the castle.

• Hanji's mom was the one always encouraging them to ask questions. Their mom, even though tired would sit until daybreak with Hanji.

• Hanji's mom went out after an expedition to help gather bodies and an abnormal attacked her. The news got to Hanji's grandparents and they hid it from her.

• they found out, a year or two prior to joining, when their grandparents were moved into the castle, out of upholding the honor their mom bestowed upon the family, and they were sent out to go collect bodies too, and then were attacked the same as her mom.

(Also I'm so sorry. But like this is the only way I can explain the unbridled rage to myself.)

• Hanji was definitely an over curious kid who got in trouble with the garrison regiment a lot, for trying to sneak away with an odm gear, cause they wanted to take it apart to see how it worked.
