❛ they walk in and sit down, with their mood of the day. they read books over tea, they give tips when they pay. butter and bread, diet coke and cake, she takes notes, she makes no mistakes. well daylight is fadin’ while traders are tradin’ while the jukebox is playin’ the lovers are datin’, the waitress is waitin’ for a thing to explode, for a light to go on, for some sign to show her time has yet to come. she’s countin’ the days until real life arrives. she’s countin’ two, three, four, five. ❜

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐕𝐎𝐋𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐈 𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐘 brought back a trophy from the battlefield of feuding covens. jane had claimed aro would be very pleased, but upon their entrance into the grand hall, all they brought was a single vampire. however, aro was not disenchanted, for her knew appearances rarely alluded to naked truth.
he rebounded down the steps of his throne to greet his guest in a satiric attempt, but something in the way she regarded him made any zeal in crimson hues to suddenly dissipate, like the death of a sole flame in a wintry night. a lost memory reemerged, from deep within his frayed, cimmerian mind : ( a lush grass field in athens, as far as the eyes can see. and she approached him, a quizzical but fond look in her eyes. ) but the same face now harbored nothing but fear. ( it couldn’t be her ! impossible. ) lest his guards wonder why their leader had quieted, he cleared his throat and spoke.
❝ who must you be ? ❞ the rich timbre carried out across the grand hall. he hoped the impressive echoes within the grandiose throne room masked the looming disquietude that tugged at his lifeless heart. the face was a cruel reminder of the human he once was. for the first time in a while, he wondered of the state of his wretched soul.
SHE WAS ALWAYS quick. she knew it was a bad idea to join this coven. but so far they had seemed harmless. upon their sudden threat of safety, knowing she could RUN--run like she always did. ellanor told herself she would help. JUST A BIT. she wanted no part in these politics. vampires fighting one another. over the centuries she had been alive it was--EXHAUSTING.
when opposing side lunged at her, she would teleport. dodging hits and healing members quickly with just a touch. ripped off limbs would quickly grow back. the brunette worked quick, spotting up here and there all over the battlefield. it wasn’t looking good for her coven.
before she could teleport one last time, an arm grabbed her from behind, ellanor feeling STUNNED. still and staring into space. it was over so quickly for her. a simple mistake, a not-quick-enough move. no. NO ! NO ! NO ! NO ! she screamed inside of her mind, yelling at her body to move. do SOMETHING. the VOLTURI were not to be reasoned with or escaped from.
though she couldn’t do much, her eyes were wide, tears welling up while the ancient vampire was dragged away, members of her coven attempting to stop them without success.
doors slammed open and it began to feel very real. thousands of years of freedom and this is where it ended. if she had a heartbeat right now it would be OUT OF CONTROL.
as she was pulled closer into this sort of THRONE ROOM, her fearful look slowly contorted to confusion, gaze from the volturi leader and her own melting into a much more soft expression, the sun shining on them and laughter echoing through a cave by the sea, the two of them splashing in the shallow wave pools in their clothes.
reality melted back into her vision, the man before her a tad bit older, a frown permanent on his features and a coldness centuries old deep within his soul.
ARO.
his expression faltered slightly like he recognized her as well, ellanor dead silent for a moment, attempting to absorb everything before her.
there was no need to make a scene. but the feeling of such pain made her feel so ALIVE. to see her fiance here. it felt like such a lifetime ago. or merely an old story. it HURT. someone that was so soft and so innocent. there HAD to be an explanation.
“ clearly....the oldest vampire in this room. “ she began, her voice so soft. “ but no one of concern either. I’ve been a medicine man for centuries. “ eyes scanning the faces in the room. you know who I am. she wanted to say. her chest felt like it was going to burst.
“ ellanor. “
she smirked, attempting to hide her fear and pain, a chuckle falling from her mouth with a playful remark. “ you’ve finally caught me. “ a string of words with more than ONE meaning. they were known for recruiting powerful vampires. she was aware she was one.
‘ they’re doing two-for-one at that super posh restaurant and i wanna try oysters if you want to come with? ’
she’s half asleep. the emulation of sunlight filtering through her window of a very pastel french palace themed room. but a wide groggy smile is graced on her face the moment he barged in, blinking and sitting in silence momentarily.
ella loved that about the doctor. once he had a thought there was no letting go. ella tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, the once up hair half down from the tossing and turning.
“ I’d love to. “
she comments, taking a moment to stretch and hold herself with hands on either side, stroking the skin on her arms. “ do I have time to change ? “
will you be my valentine~? <3
‘ you can’t be serious, it’s a load of commercialised crap. ’ ‘ it struck me that i don’t show my feelings for you enough. ’ ‘ you have broken my heart and i will never forgive you. ’ ‘ actually, you are the most important person in my life right now. ’ ‘ i guess what i’m saying is i love you. i’m sorry, but i do. ’ ‘ oh, i wonder who my secret admirer is! ’ ‘ someone just sent flowers to the front desk for me. it wasn’t you, was it? ’ ‘ single again, another year running. at least there’s discount chocolates. ’ ‘ i know it’s kind of cliche to propose on valentines day, but– will you marry me? ’ ‘ is that a rom-com you’re watching, seriously? ’ ‘ why is it that i can’t even manage to be cynical and jaded around you anymore?’ ‘ you still only receive a valentines card from your grandma? man that’s sad. ’ ‘ this is the last time we attempt valentines day sex. something always goes wrong, it’s like we’re cursed or something. ’ ‘ the thing is, suddenly when i picture my future, all i can see is you. ’ ‘ they’re doing two-for-one at that super posh restaurant and i wanna try oysters if you want to come with? ’ ‘ this is so inconvenient. i can’t be falling in love with you right now. ’ ‘ you’re my secret admirer! don’t deny it, no one else spells my name like that. ’ ‘ wait, hang on, were you just attempting to flirt? because it was awful but i’m no better and i think i fell in love with you a little bit honestly. ’ ‘ you’re a fucking bastard and you drive me mad but i love you. shit, i really love you. ’ ‘ i can’t bear this anymore. i can’t keep lying, when it’s always been you. ’ ‘ come here and kiss me already. ’ ‘ i tried so hard to forget you, but thing is i can’t get you off my mind. ’ ‘ i just want to meet my mr. darcy and ride off into the sunset, is that too much to ask? ’ ‘ this is really hard to ask so uh, bear with me, but um– i wanted to know if– maybe, i mean, you don’t have to – would you like to go out for dinner with me? ’ ‘ dumped on valentines day. shiiit, that’s some rotten luck, mate. ’ ‘ you forgot valentines day? oh man you’re sooooo dead. ’ ‘ i think actually that you’re the most beautiful human being i’ve ever met. ’ ‘ i know you’re not the romantic type but i at least thought you’d remember. ’ ‘ you really are my everything. ’ ‘ – woah. i – wow. i mean. look at you! you look – incredible tonight. ’ ‘ wearing red on valentines is a little bit cringe isn’t it? ’ ‘ wow. just wow. cheating on me on valentines day. really nice, jackass. ’ ‘ are you breaking up with me? but i – this night was meant to be our date night! ’ ‘ the truth is, i can’t stand to be around you because i can’t stand to be without you. ’ ‘ you have wedding day jitters on valentines day? yikes buddy that bodes well. ’ ‘ you are incredible & i love you so much. i couldn’t be happier that i’m finally marrying you. ’ ‘ let’s get married. right now. let’s just be totally crazy and run off together. ’ ‘ you have saved me in every way a person can be saved. i can’t thank you enough. ’ ‘ will you do me the honour of dancing with me? ’ ‘ oh wow we’ve reached crying-in-the-bathroom level of pre-valentines despair, huh? um, want a hug? some super cheap chocolate? ’ ‘ you are the love of my life and i will love you until my heart stops beating. ’ ‘ in the spirit of valentines day, how about we try again and get it right this time? ’
for a moment, he could only stare at her incredulously. rarely did anyone jump in so readily to help. especially in the face of ambiguous danger, besides … well besides him. nevertheless, the astonishment in the lined visage was quickly replaced by what seemed to be the exact opposite reaction on the spectrum of emotion: indifference.
❝ ———– that wouldn’t be your business. you’ll only get in the way, ❞ he said with a dismissive wave of his hand. ( one must not be offended. proper manners were never his forte. )
but something seemed to halt him from further speaking for a moment. he took out his own choice of weapon from his pocket. it seemed to be a blue screwdriver with improvised parts attached to it.
❝ do you feel that ? no don’t answer. of course you don’t, ❞ he muttered. it seemed he was talking more to himself than anyone in his vicinity as he passed by her, steps wary, eyes trained on the floor as if he could see some beast slithering on the floor before him. he followed this invisible entity all the way out the door, straight to a manhole right in front of the cafe.
❝ i should have known, ❞ he muttered darkly, a realization ( perhaps only privy to him ) dawning on his face. ❝ you might want to leave your fire extinguisher here, ❞ with that said, he bent over, pressed something that caused the screwdriver to light up. and the lid of the manhole unsealed itself. then he hopped in, climbing down the ladder like it was the most ordinary thing to do.
cocked brows shot upward at his response, CURIOUS as to why he assumed she couldn’t lend a hand. ellanor swallowed air in response, fingers fidgeting wildly.
gaze shot down to the device he removed from his pocket, head tilting while in thought. feel something..? no. “ not really-- “ he was quick to move on. as quick as he came in--he came out, the girl in the white keds quick to trail behind, struggling to carry the heavy fire extinguisher in tow.
she stopped before the manhole, blinking blankly while cradling the giant red device. and then it struck her. shoulders relaxed and a smile graced her face, ellanor quietly chuckling to herself while she placed it on the ground beside her. “ you’re a plumber, aren’t you ? “
she grinned wildly, following behind down the latter. “ I should have brought a plunger or two then, shouldn’t I ? “ her voice echoing down the dark sewer. keys jingled in her pocket and out they came, a small flashlight attached to it, shining on the ground below so he could see where he landed on the way down.
“ I think you DO need my help. I was always there to hold the flashlight when m’dad had to fix something. It’s always a two man job. “ her own feet landed on the ground with a light reverb, shining her flashlight along all the walls, caked in---she didn’t want to think about it. “ funny. you never think about what goes on below the surface. “ lips parted while her attention was brought back to the silver haired man.
❝ THIS IS NOT A DRILL. no time for explanations. everyone leave. now. you’re not safe here. ❞ the man doesn’t seem to be joking. the sheer authority and conviction in his tone prompts more than several of the customers in the small cafe to evacuate, albeit with puzzled expressions.
❝ —- and yes, that includes YOU. ❞ hawk eyes detect the woman behind the counter who hasn’t budged an inch. / @inujan
tik tik tik tik tik tik tik....
the smaller hand on the cat clock attached the wall kept the head waitress company while rag swirled away at cups. Polishing and perfecting each one to be pristine and clean.
customers were all fed and taken care of, reading the paper and minding their own on this gloomy evening. china clanked and throats cleared, papers turning and people shifting. It was all so...quiet. a little bit TOO quiet. OUT OF PLACE. the atmosphere was somewhat different. not that anyone who didn’t practically LIVE HERE would notice.
the wind picked up and with it-seemed to bring a sudden chaos with it. a silver haired man burst through the door, the now sweeping waitress turning while patrons seemed to dart out of their booths and out the door. confused, big eyes fell on him, not matching the same alarmed energy two quickly.
“ me? “ her voice was soft, the broom leaning against the wall, name tag reading ‘ellanor’ reflecting in the light of the ceiling lamps. her uniform was a traditional american diner dress, pink and white with her hair pulled back.
well...by the looks of it. he wasn’t a POLICE MAN...or even a FIRE FIGHTER. but someone bursting in here on a thursday gloomy evening had to have a good reason, right ? without much thought, she ran the opposite way to the kitchen, pulling the fire extinguisher off the wall and sliding out from behind the counter to stand beside the mystery man. “ sorry...If people aren’t safe in this diner it’s also my job to take care of that. “ ellanor looked all around, gripping the hose of the extinguisher. “ um---what exactly are we looking for ? “

the potion bubbled and fizzed, a little light explosion meaning it was COMPLETE. severus was so kind. it was beautiful to watch. how much he cared for everyone’s safety. In a way, he’d make a wonderful--
“ of course. “ she piped in, brows furrowing with a chuckle. back of her hand lightly tapping his forearm playfully. professor lupin possibly WOULDN’T. but she knew how he felt.
“ oh come on, though. “ scooting a little closer to help seal the glass vials. “ certainly you know. you do, don’t you? “ leaning forward to read his face. that ego had to come from SOMEWHERE.

the first year gasped when she saw her new found friend ahead, practically running toward him while he sat in the courtyard in the early hours.
“ good morning, severus. “ the small girl piped, beaming with joy.
an unclenched fist opened, revealing a small flower that was bewitched to flutter around him like a butterfly until it flew away. maybe that would bring a smile to his face.
she giggled, holding her books close to her chest. “ are you interested in seeing the spell I’ve just taught myself last night ? “
@maskforged
“ severus. “
a soft voice sounded off behind the slumped lifeless man in his chair, a gentle hand resting on his shoulder. her heart beat in her ears like a drum, the only sound to fill the stale air nothing more than the ticking of a grandfather clock.
he was like a ghost. a former shell of his self. for quite a while. a couple of weeks. things he did not share with her. things perhaps--he could not bear to share. hogwarts hadn’t been the same recently. with all the gloom and fear and EVIL it dripped in.
“ I worry about you. “
