It’s like calisthenics. You might have missed a couple things, you know, doing time as a Capsicle.

WAIT.Β

HOLD UP. My history senses were a tingling reading this, and I did some fact checking. Turns out…

Joseph Pilates was a German who immigrated to NEW FUCKING YORK CITY in 1926 to start teaching his Pilates method (originally calledΒ β€œContrology”) there, promising it would help rehabilitate wounded soldiers returning from WWI, AND those with disabilities/chronic illnesses (as he himself had suffered from several as a child, the inspiration for the method’s conception). He published several best selling pamphlets in the 20s and 30s, and had a star studded clientele in the 30s which included some of the best and most famous boxers, then dancers, of the day.

Steve Rogers… had a nurse for a mum.Β

Steve Rogers… lived in New York, knew its stars and culture well.

Steve Rogers… had multiple disabilities/chronic illnesses from a young age.Β

If anyone WOULD know about Pilates and actively PURSUE Contrology (as it was called back then by Pilates himself until the 50s/60s, but Steve would know Pilates as the FAMOUS INVENTOR GYMNAST DUDE, the ONLY one at that point doing this activity, which does open up new dimensions to the joke as Steve hearing Tony ask if *your thing* was Pilates the dude himself, hur-de-hur-de-hur SUCH GAYNESS) as an activity, it would be HIM and he’d probably know about it from the source himself, or at least hearing from Joseph’s other patients, OH MY GOD this scene is just Steve reaching a whole new level of EPIC TROLLING I CAN’T BREATHE. And Tony is standing there all smug, thinking he’s been So Clever to get one over the old fossil, haha Rogers suck my iron dick WHEN REALLY Steve has just Had Enough of this Modern Bullshit Thank You Kindly and is now reacting to e v e r y t h i n g with total wide eyed incomprehension and blue eyed innocence.Β

This might be one of the best jokes Marvel has ever pulled off, holy shit, because I guarantee you, EVERYONE LAUGHED in the cinema hearing it, but for COMPLETELY THE WRONG REASONS ASGKHJDGKJAJKHFKLΒ Β

Okay, I think I’m done now. *heavy breathing*

@silentwalrus1 @galwednesday I feel this is something you guys would appreciate given your characterisations of Steve in your fics (which I adore btw, thank you so much for sharing it!)

I just noticed that in the scene where the boys are mourning Nat at the lake and Clint is yelling at Thor, Steve is just sitting there with actual tears streaming down his cheeks. It’s this part from the trailer that they cut down a few seconds in the film:

He is full on crying. We’ve only ever seen Steve cry one other time and for Peggy’s funeral. He just lost a best friend and partner. Someone who had stuck by him through thick and thin when he didn’t have anyone else (Bucky, the team, etc.). Someone who cracked jokes with him, helped him take care of and lead their surrogate family. They comforted each other in their darkest hours. Hell, probably cooked each other dinner when the other person was too exhausted.

And the last thing Nat ever said to Steve was:Β β€œSee you in a minute”

And she was smiling with excitement, giddy to do something way outside her pay grade. She got to go on space adventures and time-traveling with Steve and her family. And Steve smiles back at her joke, fully expecting to return with Nat standing beside him once again.

Because she was always there at his side, from the very beginning he got out of the ice.

And this here is the face of a man who realizes his longtime partner post-ice thaw is now gone. His friend… his surrogate family when he had none other…

He looks at the spot where Nat had been standing right beside him just earlier… where she had promised to see him in a minute… and Steve knows that the person who stood beside him all these years… is gone for good.

And remember their conversation at the beginning of the film?

Steve: β€œI think we both need to get a life.”

Nat: β€œYou first.”

And he does.

#go off

Didn’t he like refuse to call Steve despite the fact that Steve gave him his phone number and was on the run?

Didn’t he jump aboard an alien space ship and went off into space?

Didn’t Bruce have to man up and call Steve the moment he thought they needed his help, using Tony’s phone despite the fact that he only recently got back to earth?

Didn’t Steve, Sam and Natasha risk their freedom and life to show up as fast as they could to help the nearest people in danger from the villains(Wanda and Vision)?

So despite the fact that the entirety of Civil War was Tony pretending to feel remorse for creating Ultron(a megalomaniac robot who committed an act of terrorism in Sokovia and attempted genocide of the people there, with plans to continue his serial murdering until they stopped him) and the deaths and murders it caused, leading to his support of the accords and several attempts to force Steve, Natasha, Sam and several other Avengers to sign it, he finally comes clean here and admits that he doesn’t regret his creation of Ultron and the deaths he caused because his idea to play god with a robot was right. And it’s somehow Steve’s fault that Steve has an opinion about the immorality of playing god, even though they all had to defeat a rogue Ultron together and barely survived.

Despite all that, he is yelling at Steve, a man who actually lost many loved ones to the snap, including two of his best friends while Tony himself still has his best friend with him and his wife. Not to mention, as old as he is, he is not embarrassed to be acting like the only victim of Thanos, and the only one who has suffered and zero self awareness as to how self centered he sounds, especially since he is actually older than Steve.

Basically, when he says β€œwe lost, and you weren’t there” I guess the Wakandans who died in Wakanda fighting Thanos and his crew, all the avengers, including Thor fighting in Ealanda against Thanos don’t count. Also the actual final battle against Thanos where the actual losing of the battle against Thanos happened is somehow not important.

Which leads me to ask, isn’t it actually Tony who wasn’t there with them in Wakanda where they actually lost and the snap happened?

If he refused to call Steve out of his butthurt pride over Steve refusing to bend to his will in civil war, isn’t it him that did not want to do it together despite having all the opportunities in the world to call Steve?

The sheer audacity he has to open his mouth and yell at another person about literally anything when his ass should have been in jail for Ultron alone is beyond me.

What gets me about all of this is Tony’s ego in thinking that his β€œsuit of armor around the world” would have worked in the slightest sense. Let’s be honest here, this bullshit rant is nothing more than attempt to blame others for the fact that he lost and he doesn’t know how to process that at all. It was the same thing during the fight in Siberia - β€œThat shield doesn’t belong to you. My father made that sheild. You don’t deserve it.” Putting aside the fact that Tony has never said a good word about his father to anyone, especially Steve, it proves a pattern of behavior here. We see someone, in this case Steve, not pick his side and he lashes out the only way he knows how because he can’t accept the reality that he’s not the best, that others would pick anyone over him.

So this whole rant above makes zero cents, in that, by this point in time after the Snap, he knows - knows! - that Vision is dead. They’ve caught him up to speed on everything that happened, and still, Tony can’t accept the fact that his plans or idea wouldn’t have worked. That’s why he’s yelling at Steve, because he can’t accept the fact that he was wrong about anything, so he puts the blame somewhere else.

But the whole subject of Vision and Tony’s Ultron Initiative and him thinking it would be a good idea or that it even would have worked baffles me. What was Vision but not the upgraded version of Ultron that Ultron himself made? Dude was literally made of vibranium, the strongest metal on earth, and the Black Order, and then later Thanos, tore through him like he was nothing. Let’s be honest here, out of all the Avengers and Avengers associates, Vision was one of their heavy hitters. Right up there with the likes of Thor and the Hulk, with only Wanda and Carol surpassing them. The fact that Vision was that strong and they were still able to kick his ass like he was nothing says that, had Ultron done and been what Tony intended him to be, he would have been, at best, a nuisance to them.

But no, we have to get this bullshit rant where its framed like Tony was right because it makes him feel better. And this is the problem with Tony that has been prevalent since he first showed up. He’s emotional. He’s an overgrown manchild who, despite being one of the wealthiest people on the planet, has never sought any kind of therapy or help for his mental health. The result is that we get things like this, where he feels the need to lash out and alienate others because he can’t comprehend that he could have been in the wrong. And its because he’s emotional in that way that he should have never been able to don the suit in the first place, but that’s a different topic for another time.

ALL OF THIS.Β  I was livid in the theater when this little rant was happening.
