I feel it is my sacred duty to once again inform all the fem!Snape fans that a female bitter, uptight, dark-haired, lanky goth potions master at a magical boarding school who has questionable allegiance to the annoyingly cryptic and kindly headmaster and antagonises the main character already exists, and in an objectively better series (that predates HP as a book series)

Miss Hardbroom of The Worst Witch my cranky beloved lesbian

Yes! I've been saying this for ages. I swear Harry Potter is just The Worst Witch but all the characters are male. To be fair HP is a bit more involved in terms of plot / world building.

Also Miss Hardbroom was always my favourite charater in TWW too! lol.

Canon Snape has little spoon energy

Snape is not a dom. He is the tiniest of little spoons. He has no clue how to handle his emotions besides hiding them, and would need to be handled as carefully as a porcelain doll by any romantic counterpart. Dating him would be very, very frustrating, but I don't think it would be boring.

I’ve literally never read ATYD but from what I’ve heard I feel like canon teen Snape would want to strangle him to death himself. Idk homie gives the vibes of the Marauders but evil and green.

ATYD!Snape: ugh. Mudbloods, am I right? Don’t tell Lily I said that, just still feel angry over Tobias, that selfish dick.

Teen!Snape: Yeah,,, sure,, {Merlin help me or I will snap every single Slytherin and Griffindor here’s necks into pieces and fry their hands in a man-sized toaster.}

Rereading POA and wow that scene near the end where snape suspects harry freed sirius and accuses him of doing so but dumbledore gaslights snape and cornelius says snape seems mentally unbalanced cuz he got hysterical... Snape really is female-coded huh

that the end of poa doesn't make some readers incandescently furious is wild 2 me tbh

the thing is, i don't think dumbledore ever explained it to snape. or, at least, i don't trust dumbledore to have done so. and the scene itself is played in the most infuriating way, where we're supposed to read snape's rage at being foiled and lashing out at the condescending reactions of fudge and dumbledore as being not only necessary but a win for team harry. haha, they got one over on snape! they made him look like a fool in front of the minister! haha, they undermined him because he's soooo evil and he did the bad bad thing of *checks hand* saving them from someone he thought was a serial killer.

everything about that scene and the way snape is treated is infuriating. at the very least (the very least!!!!!) dumbledore should have redirected things so that snape knew he wasn't losing his mind by accusing harry of doing the exact thing he actually did. dumbledore is a legilimans!!!! you're seriously telling me he couldn't project the whole story to snape? that he couldn't pull snape away for two seconds to explain the situation? or, hell, if you can't do that at least send snape away before he explodes so he doesn't ruin his image in front of fudge! the lack of care towards snape's mental health and well-being - especially when dumbledore has intimate knowledge of snape's myraid issues with sirius black - makes me grit my teeth. if anything underlines that snape is a tool and not a person to dumbledore, that whole situation does.

it's even more aggravating considering this comes not long after snape does a solid to harry and co by saying they were probably confounded when they helped sirius black, known criminal and escaped convict. i've talked about this before, but snape's insistence that they were coerced makes no sense unless he's trying to protect them from the consequences of their extremely illegal actions. (if they were coerced, they can't be held accountable for helping a convinct!!!) that he would protect them like that and then almost immediately be pinned up as an incompetent hysterical fool (for accusing harry of doing EXACTLY THE THING HE DID DO.) and have the narrative applaud that choice is enough to make me want to stomp on poa in a fit of rage.

but yes, snape's feminization is consistently shown through the way the narrative portrays his often legitimate or explainable emotional outbursts as hysterical and out-of-control. snape's one of the only characters who's responses are tossed aside as tantrums or derided as childish grudges (thinking again of how people portray his interactions with sirius black - who literally tried to murder him - or remus lupin, who played a part in his relentless bullying or even the memory of james potter, who harrassed him for no reason). even harry's outbursts in ootp, which are the closest i think the books come to brushing-off a character's very understandable emotionality (harry clearly has ptsd from gof, something neither the narrative nor the characters address at all) are still treated with more respect than any of snape's "outbursts." and the thing is, almost all of those "outbursts" come from a reasonable place - snape's emotionality is not without cause. but the narrative doesn't give him that understanding or respect and thus his "outbursts" become "hysterical" - and female-coded.

can the youth of today rediscover don bluth cartoons or at least the more obscure Disney cartoons like Basil the great mouse detective or Pete’s dragon or the Rescuers pls I’m begging

the art was fire, the songs were fire and they were all genuinely great pieces of work and I can’t believe not even a lot of my generation knew about them. if you weren’t emotionally wounded by a don bluth film as a child then I’m sorry you missed out. those films helped me process feelings about complicated topics (like death and abandonment) in a way no grownup ever could.

The Secret of Nimh is sooooo beautiful and dark. Although it wasn’t a success at the time, All Dogs Go to Heaven was like my fave film as a kid. Animation then seemed so experimental and took risks, and just looked so gorgeous, god I miss it.

The tragic hero is complete. You can call him unhappy (miserable, utterly broken) even before he is dead. For an instant he is something like divine. And then he dies, because there’s nothing left to do. The center of every tragedy is the image of a human being who has already died but keeps talking, someone whose face is a mask.

More Snape enjoying mundane pleasures please… Taking a quiet stroll through town, stopping by a shoe store to try on different boots and having trouble deciding which pair he likes best. Baking his own bread just because he can even though he knows store bought would be just fine. Reading a book not to glean information or learn something useful but to get lost in a story. Little things that having nothing to do with saving the world, that aren’t in pursuit of a greater purpose but simple enjoyment for its own sake.

I like to think that Severus Snape has/had the most chaotic dramatic drama filled life growing up.

Like running from the police, stealing for corporate company’s, spray painting the streets, sneaking out, fights, drugs🍃, etc.

Like they could make a reality tv show of his life growing up and the shit he got into and everyone would watch it and be so surprised because he seemed so calm and collected and secretive as a teacher but in reality he was just a punk little shit.
