We need to bring back costume balls.

Not just parties. Not just dances at the club. Balls. A formal thing in a big hall where people teach you specialized group dances and everyone gets tarted up according to a theme. With a big ole table of food and various mysterious punch bowls against one wall. Everyone gets to feel special and it encourages mingling and meeting new people as the dances get more complicated throughout the night. Plus you might meet Mr. Darcy.

England, 1897. English Professor Louis Tomlinson’s passion for the occult has been a source of mockery and derision for most of his life. When he hears whispers of a traveling freak show newly established in London claiming the existence of a monstrous sea hybrid, half-man, half-fish, Louis sees it as his ticket to credibility amongst his peers. The summer he spends undercover working on the show, however, gives him much more than that.
