also like, maybe one of my more ‘controversial’ takes idk but i think if you wanna be friends with someone who has emotional needs you cant meet (or vice versa) you like. shouldnt be friends with them. im saying this from both sides of the spectrum (having been rejected and done the rejecting) but sometimes people just do not fucking work out even if you communicate boundaries clearly and while, yeah it hurts, its not because that person was evil villainous it just Didnt Work.

like, interpersonal relationships are all give and take. you can change to be a better friend to someone, but if you have a need like, for someone to be warm and fuzzy emotionally and they just are not the type of person who does that. it might just not be the relationship you want it to be. and thats fine! maybe this is stupid but i see so many interpersonal issues get blown out of the fucking water because people cannot accept that sometimes things dont work out.

btw. part of this is recognizing when someone isnt gonna be a good friend to you too, even if theyre the one pursuing it. like, there have been people that wanted to be closer to me that i was even interested in, who when i tried to express a need to them (like talking about mental health struggles, or even just talking about something i enjoyed and wanted to share) they couldnt preform.

and i dont resent any of them for that because i have no idea what lead to that being a boundary for them. i just had to nod and go okay, this isnt gonna work, more fish in the sea. and would you know? theres been a lot more people since then who WERE okay with those things. its saved both parties a lot of hurt and a lot of time.
