Gary Bettman, I want you to know that discussing potential expansion teams while five of your players turn themselves in for sexual assault charges is egregious. It’s not only insulting to “Jane Doe”, but to all the hockey fans that have been victims of sexual assault.

We don’t care about a potential Utah team. We care that five men, for six years, were allowed to play professional hockey after allegedly partaking in a heinous crime.

The NHL should be transparent about this situation. When a situation emerges in the league, your immediate reaction is to release a ready-made statement. These nondescript statements generate rumors and conspiracy theories - as made evident by the recent Corey Perry situation. The fans should know about this situation - not an expansion team that will just generate more money for the league.

That means more than 2 out of 3 go unreported.” Additionally, it was reported by The Washington Post that “less than 1% of rapes lead to felony convictions,” but “at least 89% of victims face emotional and physical consequences.” My heart is completely with “Jane Doe,” who is immensely brave. I hope you defy the odds, I hope you get justice.

In an actual functional world THIS would be more than enough to fire Gary Bettman effective immediately, and never allow him near professional hockey ever again. the most infuriating thing about the nhl trying to use a utah expansion as a distraction to the 2018 wjc case is not the fact that they thought it would work. it’s the fact that they don’t have to be doing it. the nhl is not beholden to hockey canada. the nhl isn’t involved with this case. so why run press ops for it? why not release a statement saying “we can confirm 5 players have been asked to report to london police” AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING ELSE. ALL THE QUESTIONS ARE FOR HOCKEY CANADA TO ANSWER BUT OF COURSE YOU’VE BEEN PROTECTING THESE FIVE FOR SIX YEARS WHAT’S A FEW MORE DAYS GONNA HURT BECAUSE THEY’RE ‘NICE’ BOYS OR WHATEVER BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY WHITE, MEANING THEY WILL ALWAYS BE INSTITUTIONALLY PROTECTED

the nhl is not your friend. the nhl is a bunch of old white men protecting their own for actions they see nothing wrong with because that is the nature of patriarchy and whiteness. do not let the fun tiktoks fool you do not let the romance novels fool you. the nhl as an elite body will use its influence all the way down to the echl and junior tournaments to protect dangerous offenders and silence victims because that is how the owners stay in power. it’s all about maintaining power because the less people question you, the more time you have in power for the sake of ruling. questions are dangerous. you need to question everything and question loudly.
