just a quick thing

Something I really love about this community is that it includes so many different types of talented people.

There are…

People who design amazing cc People who build incredible sim lots People who create unique and interesting sims People who write detailed and captivating stories People who take stunning and photographic screenshots People who create beautiful edits People who upload helpful recolors and retextures People who write generous and handy tutorials People who design remarkable look books People who decorate with finesse and skill People who post entertaining and refreshing gameplay It’s all of these different types of people coming together that makes the community so great! It wouldn’t be complete without all of these people working together.

Holy cow that is both amazing and mind-boggling to think about!

This sort of thing is why I’m always dumbfounded when people say things like “It’d be easy enough to just add this thing” or “It’s not that hard to make a game”. There’s a lot more that goes into a game than people realise and it’s a shame that developers are given such a hard time when we should be praising them for their hard work instead. But that’s just my two cents =D

So… here’s a little idea I’ve been toying with lately. As you guys already know, my computer got infected and hacked due to downloading some CC that was behind Ad.fly links. I lost my Netflix account to hackers and seriously risked losing my PayPal account, too. Needless to say, I won’t be touching an Ad.fly link (or other similar service) with a 10-foot pole from now on.

However, here’s the thing: I don’t know about you, but I have a feeling that finding cc that is not hidden behind a paywall or an Ad.fly link lately is becoming harder and harder.

And this is why I’d like to start an “Ad-free Creators United” project, a database/cc finds blog to make it easier for everyone to find creations that are NOT hidden behind an Ad.fly or Patreon link. To do this, however, I’ll need the help of a few fellow simmers, aka… YOU!

What are you looking for? TS2, TS3 and TS4 players who are willing to help me hunt down FREE custom content for sims games and help me keep the cc finds blog updated.

What does “free” content mean? Any cc creation that is NOT hidden behind an Ad.fly, Shorte.st or Patreon link.

Will this be something like Paysites Must Be Destroyed? Nope. The blog will be solely dedicated to promoting creations that are shared for free (with no Ad.fly or Patreon links) by their original creators. Basically, it’ll be just a cc finds blog for free creations. No re-uploading of pay content.

How do I participate? Send me an ask or a message if you’re willing to help me with the finds blog. Please, only send me your message if you’re ACTUALLY willing to work on this. If you don’t have enough time and/or are unsure on whether you can work on the blog itself, you are encouraged to reblog this post and spread the word around.

Fine, I want to take part to this. How many people do you need? For now, I’ll need:

  • 2 persons to take care of TS2 cc finds;
  • 1 person to take care of TS3 cc finds (I’ll be the other person :D);
  • 2 persons to take care of TS4 cc finds;

Last but not least…

Are you a creator who doesn’t use Ad.fly? Get your name added to the database! If you’re a creator and you’re sharing your creations for free, please reblog this post and fill in the following form:

  • Creator name: [your name]
  • Blog url: [the blog where you share your sims creations]
  • Games you create for: [a list of the sims game/s you create cc for]
  • What you create: [CAS, furniture, objects, retextures, mods, traits, retextures, recolors, mesh conversions, new meshes? List anything you usually create for here]

  • What you create: So far only CAS items like clothes, hair, and accessories. I’m a new creator, so I’ve mostly just edited or converted existing EA meshes, but I have a lot more content planned, including new clothing/hair meshes and a bunch of large projects!

Anonymous asked:

When did you make your first piece of cc? And what was it? Also I’m trying to make some myself, and you are so talented so any tips?

Hmmm that’s a very good question anon … I honestly have no idea when I made my first piece of CC, all I know is it was for TS2, so that was a while ago lol For TS4 though, probably only a few years ago and it was probably a recolour of something.

As for tips…

  • Start small and work your way up to bigger things. Not a single creator started out instantly being good at making complicated meshes.
  • Look up as many tutorials as you can find to help and read them fully before attempting to do the thing.
  • Ask for help. There are plenty of creators out there who are willing to help out new creators. Find someone who “specialises” in the thing and send them a quick message (preferably off anon).
  • Don’t give up. You might fail to do the thing twenty times before you finally succeed but when you do succeed it’ll be the best feeling.
  • But also know you limits, don’t push yourself too hard or you’ll burn out and never want to do the thing again.
  • It helps to work on something you personally want for you own game. Making the thing because other people might like it or because it might get you more followers and notes is a very quick way to become disheartened by the whole process.
  • Believe in yourself. It’s hard work and takes a lot of patience, but you got this!

Dear Simblr’s/CC Creators that use Adfly and other redirect links to make a little extra change. This is what I’ve been dealing with for the last 20 minutes. Thank god for Avast. I never even got to download either of the items I was trying to, because on top of trying to infect my husband’s laptop, it also redirected me to MORE ads, instead of the download. Over. And. Over. “Just only click the yellow button!” Well, it doesn’t seem that matters anymore, or applies. I will no longer support this sorta thing by downloading from those who use Adfly or similar sites. This isn’t the first time I’ve encountered issues with adfly, but it will certainly be the last time.

It keeps freezing my computer! Especially when I download stuff from rinvalee

Having this problem lately too. I totally get that you work hard and want money for your hard work, I don’t blame you as a broke medical student, but at least give us the option to download off a non-ad shorten link site for those of us that can’t handle having problems like above over and over again. I mean, i just had to factory reset my computer over virus problems, really don’t need that again anytime soon. Just think before you link?

Honestly, this. This is exactly why I have the adfly killer extension installed for my browser. Because before I had it, “just clicking the yellow button” would reroute me to another webpage that’d try to infect my computer. Seriously, if you use google chrome, I highly suggest installing it cause it’ll save you a world of misery. Some adfly links won’t be skipped because they’re constantly coming up with re-worded links, but the majority of them do get bypassed.
