I don't wanna be somebody, just wanna be me

My problem is that while I love waking up early, I also fucking hate going to bed early. It's unreasonable, 24 hours is simply not enough time to get everything done each day. I'm a busy man with plenty to do, I should be allowed to go to bed at 2 am and wake up at 5 am and get a solid 8 hours of sleep in the middle. Like why is that too much to ask.

2022 Re(ading)cap #1

Category is: less than 300 pages, East Asian authors, books that feel like a warm hug.

Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 by Cho Nam-joo (5★) is a novel detailing the experience of being a woman in South Korea through a retelling of the life of Kim Jiyoung, but women everywhere could see a piece of themselves in her. The solidarity between Jiyoung and other women who all share the common struggle of living while sexism affects their every day stands out to me and gives me a deep desire for these kinds of relationships in my own life.

Covenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata (5★) will challenge the reader on what is normal, if you haven't challenged it already. Keiko, who is content in her life as a single convenience store worker, has that life disrupted by a coworker and must decide whether to follow the "sensible" path which those in her life want for her (finding a career and a relationships) or to continue on with the life she was happy with in the first place. As someone also not interested in romance, this book was deeply comforting and relatable to me. A must-read for all the misfits out there.

Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi (4.25★) is anything but cold. In fact, every character and lesson this book contains is like a warm hug (or cup of coffee) jumping off the page. In the book, a cafe in Tokyo allows patrons to travel back in time so long as they follow the rules. Before the Coffee Gets Cold features detailed vignettes of four characters who take advantage of this fantastic ability to wrap up loose ends from other parts of their lives. Although each chapter centers a very specific scenario and person, the wisdom the characters gain feel like something each reader could embrace in their own life.

it takes a really long time to unlearn but there's no such thing as "cheating" or "half-assing" being a person. if you need to leave the cabinet doors open, leave them open. microwave your tea. sit down in the shower. buy the eggmaker. use your phone to calculate tip.

it's mostly fake posterity rules. who cares if you microwave your dinners. who cares if you use instant coffee. who cares if you stop watching the show that got boring. we all have a different set of skills and a different life and taking care of yourself is fucking hard.

at the end of your life there will be no final scoreboard. nobody is going to judge you because you brushed your teeth in the shower. there will be no final count of the number of times you had the same meal five nights in a row. there will be no fanfare or party because you won at being a person - and no one will be disappointed that you never understood the point of using paper towels to dry your hands off after washing them.

yeah, in this world, people will put up a fuss. i've noticed some of the biggest fusses are over what you'll put in/on your body. the fact that i will regularly eat deli meat straight out of the bag makes a lot of people genuinely concerned for me. but here's the thing: sometimes that's the only way i'm getting any protein. my doctor says i am doing fine. i'm sticking to my weird snacks and calling it deconstructed charcuterie.

they'll say they're horrified because you take a shortcut. that's fine. it's just that it looks like a shortcut to them because they're on a different life path. these kinds of things stand out to them as important. that's fine too. but for you? you've got other things that already make you pretty hard working. and these tiny things - well, they're just clutter on your journey.

Hey students, here’s a pro tip: do not write an email to your prof while you’re seriously sick.

Signed, a person who somehow came up with “dear hello, I am sick and not sure if I’ll be alive to come tomorrow and I’m sorry, best slutantions, [name]”.

I mean, if someone wrote that to me, I’d probably believe they were sick.

“Slutantions” has me crying laughing

i once emailed my professor with a migraine. a mistake.

“I amsick will not to choir because i have a heache. i Hope its very and i am so sorry

love,

blue”

the subject line was “OW”

THE SUBJECT LINE IS THE BEST PART JSJFJSJDJS JUST IMAGINE GETTING AN EMAIL WITH NO CONTEXT OTHER THAN “OW”

As someone who has taught college, please send those emails because 1) We WILL believe that; no one would write that on purpose and 2) we need a laugh sometimes.

On the other side of this, once after getting taken to the ER by ambulance, I got an email from the professor whose class I’d passed out in, and the message had no text, just the subject line “you good?”

Reblogging for the last addition

Claritin makes me weird, but I have allergies so there’s about a month and a half block of time where I’m taking Claritin and am just weird most of the time.

Anyway, my last year of college, I got the flu or something in late March and was also taking Mucinex. I told my professor I couldn’t come to class one day by email except I couldnt think of what to say, so my medicated ass decided to make a Fry meme. I think it said something like “Not sure if I can go to class with a head the size of Texas, bottom text.” I didn’t think until the next day that it probably wasn’t socially-acceptable to tell your philosophy professor you weren’t coming to class via Tumblr style memes. When i got back to class, i found that she’d printed it out and taped it to the classroom bulletin board.

Oh shit you guys i turned on my WinXP laptop that I used to use back then.

IT WAS ON THE DESKTOP. THIS IS WHAT I SENT.

It’s even worse than i remember it

tumblr post made by a 27 year old woman frustrated bc her boyfriend leaves her with the burden of household chores: god I wish men would stop "forgetting" to do the dishes

15 year old with adhd in the replies who has just been yelled at for forgetting the dishes: what if he's neurodivergent and you're bullying him

mra blogs, by the dozen: this is why Matriarchy has failed our most vulnerable men

This is actually such a good point. 100% of posts I make with an opinion are things I made while a bit pissed off that don’t stand up to any scrutiny and should not get more than 2 notes
