My favorite type of video game quirk is when they add a female PC option without really changing anything about the plot or relationships, and so end up with the two possible playthroughs being 'super heteronormative or (accidentally?) lesbian'.

Towards the end of developing Fallout 3, we realized that wordy motherfuckers like me had written significantly more dialogue than we could fit on a single CD-ROM.

(Yes, a physical CD-Rom. Insert a “that being the style at the time” gif, because I’ve been developing games forever by now).

As a result, we had to cut about 30% of the dialogue for the game in order to fit all the voiced dialogue on the disc, including pretty much anything that differentiated dialogue between male and female characters.

The results were a little unexpected, but I ‘m glad someone enjoyed the result.

Age: 25 (or 235, if you prefer. Born on September 13th, 2052)

Height & Build: 5′11″, broad

Physical Traits: Significant scarring to her right side (face, arm, shoulder, ribs) from a vertibird crash (she wasn’t even in the vertibird, it crashed on her). Nerve damage in her right arm from the same incident.

Personality: Quiet and reserved on first appearances, as she’s learned over the years that people don’t always react well to her…. spirited personality. Quick to make friends - or at least to try. Wants to see the best in people whenever possible.

Home Region: Boston - though she’s quite fond of Far Harbor (despite the crabs, the deadly radioactive fog, the other, larger crabs…)

Family: Romantically involved with Nick Valentine (she’s a softie who gets incredibly flustered even thinking about this) 

Has taken rather well to the role of Shaun’s weird aunt. Considers Maccready her brother. Codsworth is part of the family too. It’s a new world and she is making her own family.

Associates: Preston Garvey, Hancock, Deacon, Tinker Tom 

Enemies: Arthur Maxson (and on a slightly less personal level, the rest of the Brotherhood)

History: Prior to the Great War, Katherine worked as a contractor for General Atomics, providing on-site repair and maintenance to customers. When home she usually kept to herself - she didn’t know many of her neighbors, except for Nate and Nora - they weren’t incredibly close, but they were good friends.

Nuclear war changes things.

When everyone was thawed in Vault 111 she was witness to the kidnapping of Shaun, before everyone was sent back into deep freeze.

And when she woke up for the second time, she climbed out of the cryopod to find everyone else dead - including both Nate and Nora. One shot, and one perished when the life support failed. Kate didn’t know why she was the only one left standing.

Shaun was still out there somewhere, though, and Katherine… She wasn’t about to let her friends’ child be taken away. 

Upon exiting the vault, she realized that things weren’t going to as well as she hoped.

I had a vision of making some kind of worn/battered flyer with Lucy on it and I’m pretty proud of the textures I was able to achieve!!

My art has been really boring for me lately (too rendered looking etc) so it feels really rewarding to make something that’s a little different :3

I’ve played (but not beaten) most of the Fallout games and honestly I loved the show. It was pretty dang good! 👍🏻 ☢️
