i took elvish in school and i fucking hated it. the teacher was like 700 years old and he'd like take us on field trips to sit on the banks of babbling brooks and watch the fall of sunlight through the leaves. my friends in spanish class were like conjugating verbs and shit and meanwhile i was in an old-growth forest being overcome with awe at the sight of a majestic stag. like uhh yeah mr autumnheart when are we gonna learn like any grammar "listen to the murmur of the wind in the treetops, and you shall find the grammar you seek" like fuck dude your pedagogy leaves much to be desired

This reminds me of when i took dwarvish chemistry for my physical science gen ed. The professor's beard was a complete hazard and he tripped on it on the first day of class and a flask fell out of pocket but then he spent the quarter writing me up for my "elvish face wounds" (my nose piercing is carved from the old-growth forest). I took it to avoid stoichiometry again but I nearly failed his metallurgy midterm because I wasn't "hearing the soul of the metal in my equations" or whatever. Our final was to craft a blade fit for the Heroes of Yore and when I asked for an example he pulled out a literal sword of fire that seared my retinas and made me hear the voices of my forefathers. He destroyed the dagger I crafted from actual mithril I harvested myself because he said my "lack of talent" and "disregard for the fighting spirit of my ancestors" would eventually present itself in the blade like a curse. Like, okay, short king. Whatever you say. Nobody even needs to slay dragons these days so not sure why he was so uptight
