Productivity has always been there

Because shockingly when people enjoy what they do (you make it enjoyable instead of just hammering on them) people WANT to do things!

Fanfiction authors!!

Where is the button to shout this from the rooftop?

personally i think marvel peaked when all the fanfics were just about the avengers rooming together in avengers tower, with thor eating poptarts and clint playing video games and hiding in the vents from nat and them all just being a happy weird family together

We found your backpack, just in time for your birthday, pal.

Didn’t think you’d mind me looking through it. Think of it as payback for that time you helped yourself to my sketchbook.

The big discourse on twitter right now is ‘you can’t say Columbus was a racist monster because no one knew racism was bad in 1492,’ except Isabella I (yeah, that Isabella I) threw his ass in prison for being a racist monster. There are multiple contemporaneous accounts of Columbus in the Caribbean that are basically like “holy shit, this guy is a legit, Texas chainsaw massacre psychopath.” He was considered bad even then.

When there’s documentation that the queen who got the Spanish Inquisition rolling thought Columbus was bad, I feel like it means we can all feel good about establishing another holiday for mattress discounts in this country.

Yep. Contemporaneous accounts of him and De Soto often have the writer essentially going “what the FUCK are you doing, why are you like this.” People AT THE TIME knew it was fucked up just fine.

His crew wanted to mutiny and kill the man and we are all worse off for the fact that they didn’t.

In 1511, only 19 years after Columbus’s first voyage, a Dominican friar named Antonio de Montesinos said this to the Spanish colonists on Hispaniola:

“Tell me by what right of justice do you hold these Indians in such a cruel and horrible servitude? On what authority have you waged such detestable wars against these people who dwelt quietly and peacefully on their own lands? Wars in which you have destroyed such an infinite number of them by homicides and slaughters never heard of before. Why do you keep them so oppressed and exhausted, without giving them enough to eat or curing them of the sicknesses they incur from the excessive labor you give them, and they die, or rather you kill them, in order to extract and acquire gold every day.”

“Racism” was an unknown word (coined in the early 20th century) and perhaps a difficult concept to explain to 15th and 16th century Europeans. But they were fully capable of understanding that marching into some one’s country, and then immediately killing and enslaving them, was wrong. The fact that they did it any way is their own responsibility, and it’s not inappropriate for us to judge them for it.

To all my black followers and friends, stay safe.

Also, I would like to add that black lives have always mattered, will always matter.

It’s awful that we even have to say that because it should be a given. However, we need to say it loud and clear for the racists.

We cannot be silent.

To be neutral does not mean to be indifferent or insensitive. You dont have to kill your feelings. Its enough to kill hatred within yourself.

No, doctor, this isn’t progress. Because if I’m doing this to myself, then the real truth is… Is what?

Popping Out to Say Hi

The past few months have been a mess, but I wanted to pop in real quick and say that I’m still writing, and working as quickly as I can to get the next chapter out.

Over the past few months, I have started a Young Professionals group through the local Chamber of Commerce (as part of a community action project), accepted an invitation to join the board of directors for a local nonprofit, planned and set up our annual summer camp (my third year, but we have a LOT of new counselors/leadership staff this year), and because life wasn’t crazy enough, the girls and I moved to a property owned by my workplace, literally right next to where I work. They wanted someone in there to keep an eye on things (and old buildings left unoccupied fall apart quickly--so trying to avoid that), and I wanted the bigger space for the girls and I.  We’re in the top two stories of a huge historic home. The girls each have their own room in the attic, and I have a library, music room, and sunroom. The sunroom is off the library, and it is my favorite thing ever. I go out there to eat breakfast and read every morning. I’m actually sitting out there now, typing this up and enjoying the sound of a passing train. I’ll post pictures as soon as things are a little closer to unpacked and organized.  All in all, I have been getting home from work and whatever else at night and crashing into bed, only to wake up the next day and do it all again. But, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. I’m slowly finding the time (and energy) to write again, and i’m making slow but steady progress on Second Chances. I’m also still working on If Once I Fell For You, and a few other side fics that will probably never see the light of day. But they’ve been a fun distraction here or there.  Expect more chapters soon. And thank you for your patience. <3
