Yuko now selling off the kimono piece by piece as some ridiculously overprized fashion accessory is just the last straw.

I wish she would at least sell whole kimono. I could maybe get one of my favorites...

As tumblr is getting more and more quiet...

How many of you are still there?

This blog meant a lot to me but with all the things that happened I feel more and more distanced from what I loved. I still enjoy seeing all the Maiko of Kamishichiken evolve but I just can't find the energy to follow all of them. After covid even less. So much changed.

And so did I. But I learned a lot that helps me to do the things I always loved. It helps me evolving and changing my life.

For now I try to put all my energy in my small business, in sewing and creating. Through this blog I also learned a lot about kimono. I will also use that knowledge. I have many plans and ideas and I would be grateful to show that to you some day, if you are interested.

If you want to support me and learn more about what I'm doing, please follow my instagram.

Thank you all for following this blog. It really means lots to me. But I don't think a lot is going to happen here anymore.

Hey there, I hope you are doing ok and had a beautiful Christmas (if you celebrate). Any news from former maiko Umesana ? Thanks 😊

She's all good! Here is a photo of her fromthe new year's greetings.

News

No new photos, sadly.

But apparently former Maiko Umesana has now debuted as Maiko under a new okiya. Her name is now Fujichiyo.

Would you be interested in any pictures and of her even though she's not affiliated with Umeno anymore?

Something personal

I really miss Umechie.

She was the reason I got interested in the world of Maiko and Geiko. And since she’s gone, it’s hard for me to keep up…

Hi there

Thank you posting this personal message. I really admire when people open up like this and show their true colors, it’s very hard to do sometimes.

I would like to offer some unsolicited advice as i really love your blog and find your work a vital part of Geishablr and ultimately promotes the Karyukai and the little kagai of Kamishichiken in a very special way.

Umechie was a one of a kind Maiko and i would argue that she symbolized many firsts for enthusiasts, and we got to follow along on her path through this demanding patch of her life. Sadly she left and her departure left many of us empty and at a loss. We all speculated many months about her curious case and when she was gone, life went on in Kamishichiken as if she had never played the important role to them as it did to us.

I understand that Umechie’s leaving left us without closure and i’m not saying that we deserve it but i do understand the void she left.

The advice i can give as someone who has had to digest leavings of favorites like Fukue, Katsuna and my first heart break Kyouka, is to think about the aspects of the Karyukai that are independent of personalities and personal destinies.

Your Kimono and Obi database is unlike anything on the internet, very specialized and a treasure for researchers. Please continue this and maybe expand as Umeno has this tradition of recycling Kanzashi.

Don’t negate your personal feelings about Geimaiko culture. You are a veteran of the topic and contribute so much to the spreading of information, it would be a shame if this well would run dry.

In the end, it is up to you. We all understand when motivation and inspiration leaves us and all i can offer you is a shoulder to lean on and an open heart to hear you out if you want to divulge.

Stay safe and healthy! Keep going!

Pearls

Thank you very much for your lovely words.

It means a lot to me, that people actually see a meaning in my database. It’s still not complete, but I’m going on working on it. I will keep this account updated for sure.

It just doesn’t feel the way before, which makes it very hard to keep my motivation up. But I will try my best.
