The best way to learn is not by trying but just doing it.

My final project for generative art is finally finished. This is a generative keyboard which draws a painting while you are playing music! the keys of the keyboard are connected with the keys on your computers keyboard. This all was made in Processing with the minim library and is over 1500 lines of code! Enjoy and let me know what you think!

An experiment I did with music visuals in Processing. This is made for my generative art class. With this I have learned how to create a sketch which reacts to music beats

The results of my last experiment with generative art are pretty nice. I tried another pallet which I used in my Video. Now off to my final project for generative art!

A program I've written in Processing. I wanted it to make a portrait on the beat of the music, which was a succes. First I wanted to create this and use it as my final project, unfortunately that wasn't enough for both me and my teachers. And so my journey continued. I do not own the music used in this video and don't claim any rights of it.

My first experiment with generative art, I wanted to make lines move through a simple code with mathmatical formulas. It worked! Thanks to the help from the internet. I also tried different speeds and patrons for the lines.

For my analog experiment with Generative art I decided to make a musicsheet for guitar. Tablatures for guitars are commonly written with the numbers which are the number of frets on the guitar. I took a couple of dices and threw them to decide how many snares I will use in an accord, which snares these will be and which fret it will be played on. The experiment was fun but not usable because I got some accords which are impossible to play. At least I tried.

Jan van Eyck

I had to go to an academy for Design in Maastricht called the Jan van Eyck and write something about it. When I came through the doors I almost immidiatly felt one feeling, I felt unwelcome. When I walked through their hallways some people eyebolled me like I was somewhere I didn't belong. I went for the library and on my way there, there was one thing that caught my eye. The hallways were like in a hospital. Full white with no creativity to show. I thought that was strange for a Design academy. Once I arrived at the library the woman at the desk greeted me really nicely so i've got that going for me, which is nice. The books were really old but some of them were actually accurate to what i'm learning at my own academy. I didn't learn much from my visit there unfortunately. However I still got to see some people who are actually succesful designers. Verdict: Not really what I had in mind.

Foundations of Design Research

Part 1: Because of a subject i'm currently following at school I had to watch an explanation of what Design research is and how it can help me after I graduate. I'm going to explain how this documentary helped me with my research thinking. Years ago designers didn't think about User Centered Design which led to strange designs that didn't help anybody. Therefor two persona's were made named Joe and Josephine who would help designers to create designs for the users. For a designer it is very easy to make assumptions on what the users want. However this is a very bad thing to do. always work with a grasp on the context of the design. And the last thing I learned was that designers always have to create something that's complex enough so you can get more value as a designer.

Found inspiration for my own project. I am going to create portraits by using the beat of music.

Okay, not really a tutorial. But it’s a video which teaches me how to look at this form of art and got me thinking about a new way to create it. That’s why I see it as a personal tutorial on giving new points of view.

Not the best video out there... Not even close... However, I like the concept of this and you could get some nice visuals out of it. Only by looking at it I am overflown with ideas, and that’s the basic principle of why i’m watching these tutorials.

Tried to learn how to make some cool visuals in processing, Really liked this tutorial on how to let lines dance for you! Tried it after I saw this and it’s actually really hypnotising to experiment with the inputs of this sketch. I will be going to modify this concept because I really love this!

Seriously one of the best video’s I could find about this subject. It’s beautiful to see that this form of art can be used to create so many different outputs! I choose to share this video because it also assembles my interests for gaming and music with art.

First ever try to create generative art, more a waste of free time but still I tried. Not really what I had in mind at first but there’s always time for improvement! Still very glad with the results! Made in Processing. Feedback is always welcome and if you like it, I can make this with every picture!

No man’s sky is a pretty awesome game which will come out in June! The game is infinite generative design, which means that the game has no limit within the boundaries of the game itself. Love it!
