I finally decided to make my own masterpost for my favorite Marvel character! This is a complete reading guide for everything relevant in her story, from her very first appearance up until current stuff, along with brief summaries and explanations and download links for everything. Enjoy! :)

FIRST APPEARANCES

  • Giant-Size X-Men #01 (1975): Illyana’s first appearance when she’s a child living in the Rasputin family’s farm in Russia and Piotr saves her from a runaway tractor when his superhuman powers manifest for the first time.
  • Uncanny X-Men v1 #148, #153 (other short appearances)
  • Uncanny X-Men v1 #160: Illyana is abducted into Limbo by Belasco. The X-Men rescue her, but time passes differently in Limbo and she comes back 7 years older.
  • Magik (Illyana and Storm): four-issue mini-series that details Illyana’s time in Limbo. She suffers in the hands of demons, resists the dark influence on her soul, is trained by the alternate versions of Storm and Kitty and discovers her mutant power. Ultimately, she creates her Soulsword and becomes the ruler of Limbo, banishing Belasco from it before being pulled back to Earth.
  • Uncanny X-Men v1 #168, #171 (more short appearances)
  • Uncanny X-Men v1 #183, #188, #191, #203, #210, #231 (various appearances set after she joined the New Mutants, as seen in the next section)

PS.: Out of the comics listed above, the only ones I’d personally consider essential reading to get to know Illyana are UXM #160 and the Magik mini-series.

I recommend any video from Nerdwriter that was made between 2015 and 2017 (quality/ideas drop off due to this not being the creators hobby anymore) and Mina Le! Mina’s videos are great and she talks a lot about fashion, tv, film, also lots of sources in her composed talks!

i dont claim to be an expert on love but i think theres something to like… ok so my girlfriend got undertale on the switch a while back, right? and she’s definitely not a bad videogamer but it takes practice yknow, esp when youre doing a neutral route and actually fight stuff. so when she got to the hardest bosses i took the controller and beat them for her. not because she couldn’t, but because i love her. and that’s what my brother did when i was a kid playing sonic adventure 2 or whatever, not because i was dumb but because he was good at it and he loved me. and when i want my girlfriend to read something (a post, an essay, a novel) but she’s too tired to actually read so it i read it to her and i do silly voices and she laughs and we have more fun that way. when you hand a water bottle to your friend and they open it without you even having to ask. when you spent a million years fixing the flat tire on your bike and then your dad just takes the tools and does it for you. its not a judgement, it’s just a service. you could do it yourself, but why should you have to when you are loved?
