Hello and welcome! I'm Ash, a 2D Animator working out of Los Angeles. I most often work within The Animation Guild (Local 839) contracts, but occasionally I freelance on smaller projects. My credits include Warner Brothers, Titmouse, Nickelodeon, CBS, Bento Box, Hot House Productions, Cartuna, and more!

This here blog is just for me to throw art I create up into the world without a care. It's self indulgent and often caters to whatever my brain chose to hyper fixate on the particular day/month/year.

You can find me at

@madmeeper - is my catch all, put everything there blog. I’m particularly chatty in those tags sometimes and have a few specific tags that I make use of.

@tehareinspiration is my inspiration blog where I put art that I find particularly inspiring, photographs, occasionally history. It’s meticulously tagged, and I use it a lot for reference.

“Slaying Adatok: The Paragon of Shatterpeak”, features 7 unique locations with battle-ready maps and splash images for each location! It was my goal when putting this adventure together to make Dungeon Masters’ work as easy as possible, and so each location has all the artwork necessary to bring these locations to life.

This free Level 20 dragon-slaying module will be available for free download on April 5th on my Ko-Fi (https://ko-fi.com/ashmcgivern)! Keep an eye out for the drop in the coming days. Shares are appreciated!

RE: Tumblr selling data to GenAI companies. (prev reblog.)

At this point I'm truly wondering what to do, really. (Glaze your art and so on, sure) But even the words we write, our personal thoughts, asks, everything is getting fed into these fucking machines from any site available. "Make your own page!" - Services like Squarespace, which are what I and most of my peers use, have sneakily added the option to allow third-party crawlers to harvest data. And portfolio websites are not social media. I want to interact and I have to reach clients.

Are we reaching the point where we have to post only previews and send finished art via Newsletters or post behind paywalls? Print it out and send a pigeon to our followers' homes?

I'm so fucking tired. So angry.

I've been an artist through life-threatening depression, through working and studying full time, through moving house and country, through the pandemic.

And this? This might just be what breaks me.

Yeah.

Especially the point about portfolio sites not being social media. I post to twitter because that's where my professional peers are. It's where you can get approached by potential clients or collaborators. I post to tumblr because it's where my fandom peers live, where I can facilitate a gallery with a semblance of an archival and tagging system, where I've posted my art for over a decade.

If I just wanted to post art with no interaction and no feedback, I could probably do that pretty easily. But that's not why I share my art online.

The continued hostility, commodification and devaluation of artists online is making a lot of us question why we even bother anymore. Platforms that were made successful on the backs of artists are all suddenly turning on their core userbase in order to turn a profit. Like, I get it, websites have to make money and if you don't pay for the product, you are the product, yadda yadda yadda. But I gotta assume there are ventures they could explore other than wholesale theft of their userbase's copyrighted content.

And they all handwave it away by pointing to the TOS as if anyone could've known that by signing a standard agreement to have your content hosted on the site sometime in like fucking 2010 for some of us, you'd be agreeing to having your data scraped by third parties years and years down the line. And I get that TOS can change, but tumblr has no way to effectively purge your content from the platform (that I know of), so it's not like you can do much about it if you've been posting here for a decade.

It's just. so tiring.

It’s gotten to a point where walled gardens feel like the only safe space. Yeah I have artist friends on Discord, but is that a community? Not really in the same sense.

I’d kill to find a place that captures the magic of posting art on deviantART in the 2010s, but there are so few sites that exist like that anymore. A few have popped up, like inkblot and artfol, but nothing catches.

Artists can’t seem to agree on where to go, that’s the real challenge. Nowhere feels safe, and the challenge of art specific websites is that they don’t have the same reach as general social media does. Just. Ugh.

Said goodbye to Sandi today. It was time, I’m out of sorts, simultaneously torn asunder and unimaginably relieved. Taking care of a geriatric lizard is a lot of work, but she was worth every ounce of effort. She was a good one, she made it 22 years. That first photo was one of the last I took with her. The others are photos from the past few months.

I don’t know what else to say - I could speak about her for hours, and at the same time there’s not much else to say. It doesn’t feel real and I’ll be adjusting for a long, long time.

Hi I’ve been absent a lot lately, the whole of 2024 in fact I’m realizing.

On top of just not having the spoons to really share much of what I’m doing, in combination with NDA, social media just exhausts me now. The state of the internet in general. I can’t really mentally handle constantly hearing and seeing how AI seems to be permeating every part of online existence, how every website is one big pool of advertisements, and uh, the state of the world in general. There are too many things for my dumb brain.

So I’m taking a bit of a back seat, or rather I have been I guess. Tumblr is really tbh only social media I spend any time on and even then there’s whispers of Automatic partnering up with Midjourney. If it happens I won’t stay here long that’s for sure.

And where does that leave me then? I have a lot of great friends on Discord I talk to and I’m getting into Twitch more, but I know people here still want to see what I’m up to. I have mutuals I like and artists I want to follow that I don’t necessarily want to abandon. But with the state of things, everyone just seems tired. People are sharing less. Is there really nowhere for artists left?

It’s just kind of depressing tbh. I get more fulfillment being away from social media than being on it, which is a GOOD thing, but it sucks that the time I do spend back here doesn’t feel safe anymore.

All this to say, I wish I had more to share, but I’m tired and feeling recluse, and I’m tired of shifting where my social media presence is at any given time. I’m very close to finishing a BIG project that I’ll finally be able to put online, but there’s a lot of processing I have to do first and these things take TIME.

I only have about one month left at WB (unless they extend me AGAIN which would be the 5th time fjdhdhdh) and maybe a break is what I need. But I dunno. I for sure will be streaming more if nothing else, but idk about my other social media presences. If you see me active on social media again, know that it’s def not because I enjoy it. It’s to get my name and face out there ultimately so I can find work again. Not to mention I’ve begun the process of archiving/moving my art blog to a new location where I can self host because…….. I’m so tired.

Idk!!! Morning thoughts. This is nothing my friends don’t already know but for those who are curious, here it is. I spend a lot of time on tumblr but I do t share a lot because of *broadly gestures*. Hope y’all feel me.

Pretty exciting stuff! Thanks to everyone who's been dipping into my streams over the years. :') Hopefully when I have time to stream I can be entertaining and educational for yall.

In case you didn't know, I'm going to be unemployed come March as my contract at WB comes to a close. Until I can find a new gig I'll be streaming much more frequently to share what I'm working on.

Right now I'm finishing up the final pieces of my dragon-slaying mini 5e adventure. After that, more Adventure Squad comic, and also actually animating! So if that's interesting to you, come hang out.
