My personal study used to be all structure.  Now it’s almost totally abstract. It’s playful and feels more like studying music. The images don’t need to make sense, it’s really just space and design and intervals. Working this way keeps my imagination active for as much of the process as possible, leaving he draftsman on the sidelines until I absolutely need that skill set.

Sci Fi Pencil Fun.  The original goal for my tumblr was to chronicle my digital art journey publicly.  At the time, it was a big leap because people are really skeptical when you change your process.  Not only was I switching to drawing on a tablet, but I was inking myself.  Some people have this silly war about digital vs. traditional, but I love both.  Love seeing both, love doing both.  I don’t know if it’s because I’m older, or because digital has allowed me different practice habits, but penciling is much, much easier than it was years ago.

This is regular #2 pencil on 9x12 Bristol, scanned with tones added in Clip Studio.  This was a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to having more of a balance of natural media and digital media going forward.  I avoided pencil for awhile because I didn’t want it to be a crutch whenever I found the computer to be frustrating.

I definitely don’t miss the scanning process.

I very badly hope that BioWare finds it in their heart(and schedule) to give us a Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster.
