It was a normal morning at the BAU office, the women listening to Reid’s ramblings of who knows what and Rossi in his office with the door closed. Then Morgan, with Hotch following soon after burst into the office “We’ve got fresh meat on the team!”. “Oh Morgan spill come on, where’s the new kid?” Emily said as she and JJ stood up looking around, curiosity filling their shoes. “Her name” Hotch said as Morgan drum rolled on Emily’s desk “is Agent Wright. Please come in”. Reid’s attention focused on the door as soon as Hotch had mentioned the name Wright. The light glared on the glass as it opened and it showed a familiar face “Lyla?” Reid said as he stood up and walked slowly towards the new agent. The new agent turned to face him after she shook hands with Hotch and Morgan and her face contorted into that of surprise and happiness “Oh my god, Reid? 10, 11 years?” she slipped herself into Reid’s arms while he was still in shock. “Actually-” Reid began his ramble but was soon cut off “Rossi? THE David Rossi? It’s an honor to meet you sir” Lyla practically leapt to Rossi as he gladly shook her hand and smiled in amusement. “So how do you two know each other?” JJ said as she smirked and Emily wrapped an arm around JJ chuckling “Do we have a girl genius in our midst?”. “Actually yes” said Reid as he sat back down “we met in high school and we were both twelve.” Everyone looked at one another clearly impressed, Lyla cleared her throat and readjusted her grip on her black handbag “I’m not as smart as Reid but I sure do like to get my hands more dirty than he’s comfortable with.” Everyone chuckled and introduced themselves as well as learn more about their new member, all the while Reid watched as an old friend become family again.

It was now 5:00 pm and everyone began to leave “Hey new girl, we girls are having a girl’s night at Penelope’s apartment. Wanna come with?” Emily said as all three women filed slowly out the doors. “No thanks, I have plans. A date of you must know” Lyla said as she followed them into elevator filled with giggles. All three women left in separate cars, Lyla stood by waving them off “Hey Lyla! I know you have plans but I figured since we haven’t seen each other in 10 years 8 months and 3 weeks that you could give me a ride home and we can catch up a little on the way.” The woman hesitated a bit but nodded “yeah, come on then”  Spencer eagerly entered the passenger side, “just input your address and we’re on our way”, the man did as advised and they went on their way.

The ride to Spencer’s home was quiet “Are you going to tell me why you disappeared” Spencer said breaking the ice. He saw Lyla’s hands grip on the steering wheel “Spence I
...I want to tell you but after all these years between us, I’m still not ready
” Spencer left it at that and they were finally at the apartment building “no way, I live here too”. The man looked at her as they both exited her car “Interesting, what floor? I’m on floor four” Lyla silently counted to herself “I live on the floor beneath you...floor three”. They both grinned at each other as they made their way upstairs stopping at Lyla’s floor “I’ll see you tomorrow Spence” she rubbed his arm and she lingered there for a few seconds and left his side. “Have fun at your date Lyla! See you tomorrow” Spencer climbed up the stairs and heard what sounded like a child “Mom you’re home!” upon hearing this he silently went back down but was met with a mother whose two children ran towards her from an apartment, no doubt the babysitters’ place.

About an hour passed and Spencer’s phone chimed, he put down a book he received from a special person and picked up his phone. On the screen it read “Soence c l uld yoh pick us uo pleadtw m” from Emily. Spencer sighed and made his way out the door grabbing a jacket and quickly shutting the door, he stepped down on each stair step as he struggled to put his jacket on. Then he heard Lyla talking “Come on Addi, now we’re going to be late to The Spaghetti Factory” “But mom, you know how much I love my new book” that was it, that was the voice Spencer had heard an hour and 16 minutes ago “you love your drawing book more than spaghetti is that what you’re saying Addi?” a trace of a chuckle could be heard. Spencer quietly went down the stairs until he saw the two people in full view “Lyla?” the said woman turned quickly with a gasp, eyes wide as she wrapped protective arm around a little boy “Mom who’s that?” her son. Lyla looked down and sighed only to look back up at Spencer “I guess the cat's out of the bag huh?”

Strict Schedule

A/N: A request from @emilyisrightiamleft for a Spencer x Reader where she has narcolepsy and Spencer finds her passed out at a cafe library. @coveofmemories @sexualemobitch @jamiemelyn

                                                              —-

On a rare day off, Spencer found himself sitting at the cafe just down the street from his apartment with a book in hand, well, five books, but whatever, he needed something to read. There weren’t that many people around today, so he got caught off-guard when a loud, but sweet-sounding laugh resounded throughout the small space.

When he looked up, he saw a woman talking with her friend. She was wearing a pair of light wash ripped jeans, a pair of purple converse (which he happened to also be wearing) and a plain gray t-shirt - completely comfortable and yet effortlessly beautiful. After a short laughing fit, he noticed her left arm rest limply at her side. A yawn overtook her and the friend she was speaking to put her arm around her and bring her to a table. Within a minute, the woman was asleep, and remained that way for about two minutes, only to wake up slightly confused but otherwise okay.

Apparently, her friend had to leave shortly after; her scrubs indicating she most likely worked at the local hospital. “I’m fine.” He heard her say. “I’ve got this under control.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yea, Shay,” she said, as she pulled out her laptop. “I’m just going to do a little bit of work here and then walk home. I’ll be fine. Talk to you later?”

“Of course, babe!”

Spencer hadn’t planned on going anywhere anyway, he really did want to relax and read, but after seeing what happened, he was afraid to leave her alone. If he was right, the limp limb was cataplexy, followed by a short bout of narcolepsy where she’d fallen asleep on her friends shoulder; it made sense, considering beforehand she’d been laughing. Laughter was one of the most triggers for people with cataplexy.

A soft smile crossed her face as she put in headphones, extremely loud music blasting out of them. Eventually, Spencer went back to reading his book, so he was caught off-guard when he looked up and she was once again asleep, this time with her head on her laptop.

He noticed a few younger men were sitting in the corner and laughing, taking pictures and making lewd motions and comments. Spencer definitely couldn’t leave her now. When he was younger, he would’ve killed for someone to stand up for him and protect him, so instead of sitting idly by, he got up from the table and went to sit at her side. Immediately, the boys that were laughing and talking stopped. Spencer smiled as he went back to his book, a warm feeling of pride at having stopped the boys from degrading her any longer.

After about ten minutes, the woman shook her head and pushed up off the laptop. “What happened?”

She undoubtedly knew, but Spencer spoke up anyway. “You fell asleep,” he smiled softly. “There was a group of boys taking pictures and making nasty comments so I sat over here so they might think we were friends or involved and they would stop. It worked. Are you okay?”

“Yea,” she replied, looking down at the laptop and realizing there was a string of letters that weren’t necessary due to her ten-minute nap. She highlighted the passage and got rid of it before turning to him to explain. “I have narcolepsy
with some cataplexy thrown in. Some days are worse than others and apparently today’s not a good day. But
” she swallowed, looking toward the group of young boys that Spencer had pointed out, “Thank you for sitting over here. I do appreciate it.” She shook herself around a bit, trying to wake herself up. “I’m Y/N by the way. Can I ask the name of my knight in shining armor?”

Spencer smiled warmly, his lips scrunching up in satisfaction. He’d never been called that before and he had to admit that he liked it. “Dr. Spencer Reid,” he said, giving her a small wave.

“Medical doctor?”

“No. Three Ph.D.’s though. I work for the FBI as a profiler.”

“That’s so cool!”

It wasn’t necessarily ‘cool,’ but he understood what she meant. “I do love what I do. Is this work?” He pointed to the laptop and she smiled.

“Yea. I’m actually a writer, fiction and non-fiction. Non-fiction has to do with my life as a narcoleptic,” she said, sleep still staining her eyes. “And I take a little work on the side to supplement my income and occasionally speak at conferences on narcolepsy.”

“C-Can I ask what it’s like to have it?” he asked. He knew the physical signs and symptoms, but he was curious as to what it felt like.

“Sure,” she said, leaning back and crossing her arms over her chest. “I’m not gonna lie to you, Dr. Reid, it sucks.”

“Spencer, please.”

“It sucks, Spencer. But I get by. I tend to try and not get overly emotional in any way while I’m out, especially laughing, because that’s my biggest trigger. If I’m going to have a big party, I make sure it’s at my place or somewhere I trust everyone, just in case I do randomly fall asleep. The cataplexy tends to be isolated to one limb at a time now thank god, but when I was in college and my schedule was hectic, I could just drop to the floor. My whole body would go limp.”

“Oh my god,” he said. He couldn’t imagine not having control over his own body like that. “How long have you known?”

“Since my second year of college, so a little over a decade at this point,” she said. “When did I get old?” She laughed again, softly this time as if realizing she could fall asleep again and desperately trying to avoid it. “Anyway, I’d always been a tired person, falling asleep in cars and just generally being really tired, but when I dropped down limp in the middle of the field in college, I realized something was wrong. I had a bunch of studies done and I was diagnosed within a few months.”

“How do you manage it now? I know there’s no cure,” he said.

“Unfortunately, not. I have a very strict schedule for sleep. No matter what I do, I make sure I’m in bed by 10 o’clock at night and up by 6. Eight hours of sleep, plus, I try and take three or four 10-15 minute naps during the day. Most of the time, that works. I’m still tired obviously, but it’s the best I can do.”

She started packing up her laptop and yawned again. “Dammit,” she chuckled. “I need to get going, but today is an off day for me and I have to walk home. Would you walk with me?”

“Absolutely,” he said. Maybe a little too quickly. The last thing he wanted was for someone to take advantage of her. “I was going to offer if you didn’t ask.”

“Such a gentleman.” They walked back to her apartment without any sleep attacks. “Thank you again, Spencer. I really do appreciate it. It’s rare I find someone who doesn’t laugh at how randomly I can fall asleep.”

It didn’t look funny to him. It looked like it sucked. “It’s not a problem. I-is there a chance I could get your phone number? I’d like to get to know you
if that’s okay with you.” He hated how clumsy he sounded; he knew he was supposed to sound confident, but for the life of him, he couldn’t force it.

Reaching for his phone, she took it and programmed her phone number in. “I’d like that a lot.” They smiled at each other momentarily before another yawn overtook her. “I think my body’s telling me I need a nap. See you soon, Spencer.”

"You can't just take the dog with you, Y/N." with Spencer 💕

Avatar

About a week and a half ago you and your boyfriend had finally gotten a puppy. You had constantly begged Spencer and he gave in, so here you were with a golden retriever named Sadie.

She was already trained, which made it a hell of a lot easier to like her since she was a great listener. She was a little older than you wanted originally but she was such a sweetheart and you didn’t want it any other way. You wanted to spend every waking moment with her and so when you received news that the team had to go to work on a new case, you were upset.

You and Spencer quickly packed what you needed and were about to walk out the door when you picked Sadie up and starting telling Spencer that she was coming too. You were joking of course, but you loved her so much that you wanted her with you 24/7.

“Babe..” Spencer trailed off, raising his eyebrows at you. You pouted and just held her up to his face so that she was staring at him over her long nose. She licked his chin, which caused his face to break into a smile as he took her from you.

“You can’t just take the dog with you, Y/n.” Spencer said with a frown. He’d also come to adore the small creature, she was so happy all the time and it rubbed off on both of you. Sadie instantly lifted your moods.

“I know..” you said, sighing dramatically.

Spencer placed the puppy back onto the ground, “The neighbors will take great care of her while we’re gone, okay? I promise. She’ll be happy to see us when we get home.”

You nodded, knowing that he was right but still wishing you could take the pup with you everywhere you went. Maybe you could sneak her into your bag.. nah. She’d bark. Maybe you could pretend you were sick to stay home with her.

Spencer could practically see the wheels turning in your brain. “Come on, Y/n. We’ll be home soon, right Sadie?” he directed his question towards the dog, who couldn’t understand a word he said but barked happily and pranced over to him. He pet her for a moment before pulling you out the door and locking it behind him.

“I cannot believe you won’t let me take my child with me.” you mumbled.

Terms of Endearment.

Spencer Reid x Reader

In which Spencer decides to call his girlfriend cute names, because he read somewhere that terms of endearment can make a partner feel more special and loved. He wants her to feel loved, so he experiments over the course of a few days: he calls her every pet name he can think of until he runs out of new ones to see what she likes the most. When she catches onto what he’s doing and asks about it, his response is adorable.
