really funny when people include emma in their fics but not ben braeden

sorry i can't not be a bitch about this

i mean i agree i don't care about ben or emma but like. the difference between ben and emma is that for ben i don't have to care about some imaginary mushy fantasy of ideal parenthood. i can be interested in like. what actually happened on the show.

edit: sorry this seems hostile i think. i'm agreeing with you and trying to yes-and. i'm just doing so passionately.

which is pretty interesting! dean tried to larp his concept of a "normal suburban father" without really unpacking it, failed, panicked, and got cas to literally erase the evidence from ben and lisa's minds. that's like. something interesting that contributes to dean's characterization. he changes a lot between season five and season seven and failing at playing house with ben and lisa is one of the reasons. when he is broken of his suburban dream fantasy he engages with the world differently. all of this characterization is wrapped up in his relationship with ben.

in contrast, both sam and dean kind of react to emma's birth and death like "would that be fucked up or what." in order to get anything out of emma you have to be a priori obsessed with Dean Has Baby. which is simply not interesting. baby fever is a plague upon this earth. also it's about this fantasy of dean being super good with kids because that makes him like. womancoded and therefore perfect and moral i guess? l + ratio + dean is a massive danger to any child in his blast radius + this is one of the things that is interesting and charming about him.
