“I don’t know the guy, but I think he’s one of the worst guitar players I’ve ever heard in my life. I’ve never heard a solo from that guy that was any good. It was always like, that was a terrible solo and this guy is out of tune!… I hate to say that, because I might meet him one day. [Facetiously] What’s he play in, Megadeth? [Interviewers: OOOH!] Metallica? Is he in Metallica? Oh, then I have no problem doing that; in their biggest video, “Nothing Else Matters”, when they threw darts at a poster of Kip Winger, and then they showed it live. 20,000 people, every night, laughing, at Winger. I don’t mind saying that Kirk Hammett sucks.”

Reb Beach of Winger goes IN on Kirk Hammett of Metallica (via justhereforwasp)

He sounds a bit bitter…

LOL but where is the lie though??

Funnily enough, Kip himself doesn’t seem too bothered by the music video with Metallica throwing darts at his poster. He even says nice things about Lars’ drumming, which is, um, being TOO KIND, Kip. It seems to be a big sore spot for Reb, which I can understand on some level. How dare these Metallica guys, who Reb could outplay with one hand tied behind his back, stick their noses up at him and his band and mock Kip in their music video?

idk i’m not impressed by what i’ve heard from either guitarist tbh! the quote is just kinda silly/funny

aw Kirk is one of my all time favorite guitarists.  The solo in The Unforgiven? Reb can’t deny that’s great.

Kirk’s a super nice/chill guy.  I’m pretty sure the darts thing was all James and Lars’s doing.  But I can understand why Reb would still be pissed about that.  I didn’t give Winger a fair chance for years because of the Metallica thing/Beavis and Butt-Head and I’m sure many others haven’t either.

Anyway, this seems relevant:

One of the most unexpectedly moving things I’ve seen in a rock interview, is Kip Winger talking about playing again with Winger and seeing young kids, teenagers, in the audience singing along to every song. And realizing that they’re so young, that they didn’t grow up with Beavis & Butthead. They don’t realize they’re “supposed” to think Winger’s a joke band. In a sense, Winger made it. They outlasted their detractors.
