The Girl With Fire In Her Veins

Here is little sneak peak of a story I’m working on. I’ve had it stuck in my head for like a year or so and I’m finally putting it out there.

Summery: Rowena MacLeod’s life came crashing down around her when she was 17. For eight years, she is forced to fight her way through the Saxon’s challenges until the Vikings show up.

I was 17 when my family and I were traveling across the country of England with just our packs and caravan. My mother, Ada, and father, Fergus, had decided to travel after my brother, Callan, was born and we did. We traveled from our home in Scotland and over into Norway and Denmark, making our way into Germany and into Frankia before eventually getting to southern England.

Eventually we were going to be making our way back into Scotland but at the time we didn’t know that Scots was in a feud with England. By the time we reached Northumbria, we had barely been bothered since we usually kept off the main roads. I was the only one that could speak Saxon along with our home language of Gaelic, with Norse, French and German.

When we reached Northumbria when I was 17, our family had expanded with mother giving birth to another boy, Kian, and then a girl, Mollie. Father could speak basic English and some words in Norse. Callan could speak French while my younger siblings were still developing with Gaelic.

After about a week of traveling, we were confronted by a group of King Aella’s soldiers. They were questioning my father on why were on the King’s land. That we were unwelcomed. We had no clue that England was in a feud with Scots (Gaelic speakers) at this point in time. My father didn’t understand and wanted me to translate but the soldiers were getting aggressive and would not let me speak.

It happened so quick.

The soldier ran my father through with his sword.

I was stunned and almost couldn’t move as I watched my father fall the ground.

The sound of my mother and siblings screaming snapped me out of my thoughts. Clenching my jaw, I rushed forward towards the men that were reaching for my mother and siblings. I went for the smallest man, taking his wrist that was reaching for his sword and twisting it while my free hand simultaneously reached for his sword to pull it from his sheath. I twisted myself under his arm to put him an uncomfortable situation to put the sword through his armpit.

Two of the soldiers that had stood next to him had frozen in shock at the fact that I had downed one of the soldiers. I took the opportunity to slice at the one on the right, twisting as I swung. Blood poured from his neck and splattered onto my neck, face and chest.

My mother took the distraction and ushered my siblings into the caravan and then stood behind it.

I quickly turned to the other soldier, standing sideways as I bent back as he tried to stab me. I quickly swung the sword into the opening he gave me as he stumbled. I cut his side and then when he fell to his knees, I positioned myself behind him to grip his chin and taking the sword to his neck and slicing it.

I locked eyes with the man that killed my father as I glared at the twinkle that gleamed in his eye.  Two more of the soldiers rushed forward and they stupidly both swung at my head, making me duck down and I lunged forward to slice both tendons at the back of the knees.

One of them dropped one of their swords and I quickly picked it up. Twirling the swords in my hands so that I was holding them backwards I thrust the swords back, stabbing the soldiers in their necks.

Pulling them out, I kept my breathing even, but I could feel the blood in my veins on fire as my energy kept up with my movements. I twirled the swords in my hands so that they were facing the right direction. I kept my eyes on the other soldiers in front of me. There were about eight more and I knew that the gods were not in my favor today, but I was not dying without a fight.

The biggest soldier along with two more came forward and the big one swung hard.

I jumped to the side to avoid the hit and then parried the soldier to his left.

Eventually, I was grappled by the big one and his arms were wrapped around my arms and waist, crushing me and making me drop the swords.

I was cursing him in Gaelic and English as I thrashed around in his hold before Mother’s yell caused my head to snap over.

The leader had grabbed mother’s hair and had forced her to her knees and then put a dagger at her throat.

Mother locked eyes with me. Both of us had tears trailing down our cheeks before her resolve hardened and she gritted her teeth.

“Fear cuts deeper than swords.” She spoke to me in Gaelic. A saying we learned in Germany.

Clenching her jaw, she closed her eyes just before the man sliced her throat.

She gargled as he threw her to the ground while locking eyes with me.

The sounds of my siblings' sobs along with any other sounds slowly disappeared from my senses as the only thing I felt was anger and devastation at this man killing both of my parents.

My face scrunched up in pain and anguish before I screamed loud and then leaned forward as much as I could before knocking my head back into the head of the man holding me, I could hear a crunch of his nose breaking and he let me go as he reached up to his broken nose.

Diving for the sword at the ground, I was barely able to grab it before a boot covered the metal of the sword.

Quickly looking up, the lead man looked down at me before he punched me in the face. Falling back, I was disoriented, and the taste of copper filled my mouth. Looking up, my eyes focused while blinking very slowly at the silhouette of the leader standing over me.

I felt him grab at my tunic and him pulling me to sit up before he punched me again... Knocking me unconscious.

Smart is Everything Part 2

ImageImage

A/N: So I’m back...although I will say this, I’m not caught up with Vikings so I’m going based on what I’ve watched so far. Thanks for the love!

You and Ivar became close after meeting. Floki encouraged it as he watched you two, giggling and smiling at you both. Ivar was very fascinated with your mind, being that you spoke so many languages. You three sat around the fire for hours. Ivar finally told Floki what he wanted to tell him when he came over for before going back to talking to you.

“Your father took you everywhere?” Ivar asked you as you sat next to each other next to the fire. You sat on the floor next to him, facing him as you held a horn of ale in your hand. He faced you also with a horn in his hand. He looked at you as he listened intently.

You nodded as you gulped a mouthful of ale down. “Father has been a traveler, even when he met my mother. They settled down in a small village after finding out mother was pregnant with me. Mother grew sick a couple of years later. Mother didn’t make it passed the winter....” You swirled the liquid in the horn as you thought of the memories. “Then father raised me, teaching me anything he thought was necessary. Especially once we started to travel again when I was 8.” You told Ivar.

Ivar’s eyes were wide with fascination. “We traveled East for a long while before heading South, then back West...finding all types of people. My favorite was the Romans. They have the best food...” You tell him as you lean over to take a piece of meat from the plate that sat on the floor between you.

Floki sat across the fire as you spoke, still just as interested as Ivar was. You stayed there talking for hours til Floki left to go to bed.

Ivar and you both sat there talking more. Getting to know each other. He felt so comfortable and at ease around you. Ivar hadn’t felt this calm in a long time so he grasped onto it for as long as possible.

In fact you both felt like you both meant to met each other as you felt a connection that you have never felt before.

Lost and Confused

Sup guys,

I’m sorry to say but I’m at a motivation stand still right now with this blog. I haven’t felt any inspiration lately and I am sorry. Also I lost a lot of ship request and I don’t know why. So I’m sorry for that one as well.

I’m going to put a hiatus on this blog but I will not close it and I’ll try to put up my masterlist again cause I made one a long time ago and since tumblr is being a little bitch it took it off. So within the next two weeks it’ll be up.

I’m really sorry guys.

Much love,

Through Time: First Steps

A/N: Anything in italics is Norse and regular font is English.

I barely remember the feeling of compression on my body as I awoke from the slumber I was forced into. The next thing I realized was that I was buried below the Earth and within minutes I used my strength to dig myself upwards, or what I assume was upwards. All I could think about was trying to get to the surface.

Breaking the surface, I took a large gasp of breath and pulled myself up out of the grave. I sprawled myself out onto the ground as I took shallow and fast breaths.

'Why was I in the ground? Did I die? What happened?' My thoughts ran into each other as they sped through my mind. Slowly, my body calmed down enough for me to see the world around me.

Everything was sharper and crisper as I looked around the area that surrounded the grave I just dug myself out of. I could also see farther than before and I looked around at different trees. The bark and leaves were more vivid than I remember. Soon, sounds came into play.

I heard the sound of breaking twigs and hoots of owls with caws of crows. Making me turn in circles as I stood up to look around to find where the sounds were coming from. It all sounded like it was within arms reach from me but I couldn't find where the sounds were coming from.

Then I looked down at my dirt covered body and started to try and dust it off but I stopped as I put my hand against my arm. I looked on intrigue as I felt the once white fabric with my fingers. It felt softer than before. Sensations went up through my fingertips and into my hand and up my arm as I felt around my body with my hands. Everything felt different.

Then I looked at my dirty skin and saw the paleness under some of the dirt, making me cock my head to the side. I wasn't pale before, I was a beautiful tan color from spending so many days out in the sun and helping fishermen with fishing around Kattegat.

Just as I reached up to feel my hair, I heard a voice. "You are a curious creature, aren't you?" I quickly turned to the voice and went to say something but paused. I had moved so fast that my body was a blur. Pushing that thought from my head, I looked at the man that spoke and then everything came back to me.

Him taking me from the battle and dropping me in a field. Then him asking me if I fear death before utter darkness.

"You..." I paused. I didn't know where to start. He was leaning against a tree not far from where I pulled myself up.

"Me..." He said tauntingly. He pushed himself from the tree as he took slow and deliberate steps towards me. The stranger put his hands behind his back and straightened his posture as he then started to walk circles around me. Never moving his eyes from me.

"What did you do to me?" I asked as I moved my body so my back never faced him.

He chuckled, almost darkly, as he stopped and turned his whole body to face me. "Mmmm....I made you..." He paused as he looked up with a thoughtful face. "Lets say, I made you better." He finished.

I frowned at him in confusion. "Better?" I asked.

He grinned, showing off his canines, making me have a brief flashback to the field which he made the same grin. "I made you like me. You are now a...." He made a thoughtful face again. "What is it that your people calls us?" He asked to himself softly. Before he figured it out. "Oh, yes! Draugr!" He said as he snapped his fingers.

My eyes widened at the word. I've only ever heard stories from Floki about those creatures. They are the ones who walk after death. Just the thought that I was one of those creatures was having problems coming to terms with.

He then started to ramble as his eyes unfocused with thoughts. "You will never grow old now. Your strength is greater now, along with all of your senses. You don't have to worry about getting sick. You are faster than any animal or human contraption. Although you will only be able to transport at night as we burn in the sun." At that I took in unneeded breath. "Also, do not get stabbed in the heart, that is a quick way to die as well. You will need to feed soon. We could go back to the battle and try to find any one left behind."

As soon as he said feed, I felt a tightness in my throat. I am quite parched. I reached a hand up to my throat and rubbed it lightly.

I felt a hand on my shoulder as I had started to lose myself in my thoughts. "Come, we will get you something the eat. Maybe then everything will become much clearer."  The man said as he then gently led me somewhere away from this place.

"Ah! I completely forgot, my name is Farius, dear one." Farius said as he continued to walk me off from the the area that once was my grave. "Everything will be so much fun." He spoke into the air, giddily as he seemed to almost skip.

Smart is Everything

Request:  Hi can you do a ivar imagine where reader is taken from the Middle East like tenaruz In season 4 and reader is really smart and speaks multiple languages and ivar starts to like her and his brothers notice he’s never angry around her and always smiling

You stumbled along behind the tall skinny man as he pulled the rope that was tied to your hands. You glanced over at the girl that was brought along but was coddled by the woman. The girl you barely recognized from the bazaar. Although you the man that was with the woman had taken a strange liking to you. But maybe that had to do with the fact that you could speak his language and knew of his religion.

Which you had started to be glad as you glanced behind you at the rest of the women that were raped before you left your last home. You felt relieved that the man found an interest in you.

“Come on, Y/N. Time to go to your new home.” The man spoke softly as he pulled on the rope again, making me look forward. You watched them gather their things and followed along behind them as they made their way away from the main city and into the forest.

Before long you came up to a what seemed to be a little area that boats were built and a cabin. You looked on in awe as the man pulled you along, making you follow slowly. Most of the works were beautiful and some carvings that you could see were excellently crafted. Soon you walked into the cabin and you were pushed onto a seat that was by a fire pit that wasn’t lit yet.

The man set about getting a fire going as the woman took care of the girl. Although whenever the woman turned, the girl would glare at her with intent to flee appearing her dark eyes. The woman and girl disappeared into the back as the man fluttered about the room, doing this and that. Which you watched with some interest. Before long the man sat in front of you. He stared at you for a minute before you raised an eyebrow at him. He took off the ropes, making you rub your wrists softly. He then handed you a cup that he filled with a liquid, which you sniffed before taking a sip.

He grinned. “I forgot to mention that I’m Floki, that woman is Helga. My wife.” He spoke after a pause.

“You already know my name.” You spoke softly.

He licked his lips before asking, “I want to ask how you know my language.” He squinted his eyes at me as you licked your lips too and thought about how to answer.

“My father and I traveled a lot since I was little. My mother died when I was too young to remember and father started to travel when I was old enough to walk and take care of myself. I think I was around 8 moons old by that time. I barely remember my home country. Every time we stopped somewhere new that had a new language to learn, I’d learn while my father worked. Soon I’d learn new religions.” you told him.

He stared at you intently. “How’d you learn mine? What about our pagan ways?” He spat the word pagan. Making you remember that some countries viewed their religion as a pagan religion.

“I think I was 12 when we came across a man that was tall, like you, with long dark hair and broad shoulders. He was staying in the same town as us, a traveler like us. His name was Hagen and he took it upon himself to teach me his language and religion. I’ve learned many languages and religions.” You said and Floki grinned wider.

“Me and you are going to have many talks from now.” He said.

And that is what started the bonding between you two. You had much more to learn from him, as he taught you more than what Hagen taught you before. While he learned how many religions and languages that are out there. You spent the talks with him while he worked on the boats that were spread all over the land that was apart of his home.

While Helga grew attached to Tenaruz, Floki grew attached to you. He liked the fact that you so open to learn about the gods that he started to grow increasingly attached to you.

Before long, a certain cripple made a visit to the cabin one day. You were in you little area of the cabin that held several drawings and things that you saved. With a hammock attached to the walls.

You were laying in your hammock as you stared out of the opening on the side of the cabin that showed great scenery of the hills and mountains that surrounded the town of Kattegat. Next thing you saw was Tenaruz rush past the area with Helga following not to far behind. Making you stand and head to the area they just left.

“What did you do now, Floki?” You jokingly asked. You turned a corner and stopped in your steps and saw a boy, no man, sitting at the pit with Floki sitting across from him. Floki smiled at you as you stood there while the man sat staring at you.

The man had short dark, almost black, hair and hypnotic bright blue eyes. His eyes is what drew you in first, making you feel like you were swimming in the ocean again.

“Now, what made you think it was anything I did?” Floki asked dramaticly, making you snap out of your daze from gazing at the man.

You grinned back at Floki as you said, “Because as of recently, it’s mostly what you have done.” You smiled at the man and made your way over to the pit to join the men.

“Now, where’d you find this one, Floki?” The man asked as he never removed his eyes from you.

“Same place I found the other one. Y/N this is Ivar. Ivar the Boneless. Ivar this is Y/N.” Floki said as he stood up and moved to where the cups and pitcher was. Ivar held out his hand to shake, which you grasped in your hand.

Both of you felt a strange sense of calm wash over you both. Never breaking eye contact you both grinned softly at each other.

Völur and viking women

People may think that the vikings were all about men and virility, but women played a big, if not bigger part than them in their society. For example, the Völur (singular=Völva), who were very important women. They were witches who always traveled with wands as big as walking sticks, which were burried with them at the time of their death. The name Völva literally means “wand-wed”. They were unmarried wise women and priestesses, that served as healers and diviners, and were held in great esteem. In fact, they were so valued that they could travel alone with no fear, and be welcome to any village or hearth they passed by. A clan’s chief would always let a Völva sit at the end of the table, showing that she was a higher authority than them. Of course, the Völur weren’t the only important females in viking society. There was also the Blótgydiur (sacrificial priestesses), and the Hóvgydiur (temple priestesses), who were devotees of the god Freyr, and were considered his wives.

Village women were also very valued, and were in charge of the household money because they were believed to be magic and have the hability to see in the future. When a viking man mistreated his lady, she was allowed to cut off his genitals and hang them in her home. If a woman divorced her husband, HE would be the one shamed for being divorced, because he didn’t treat his wife right. Men weren’t even allowed to touch a woman’s hand if she hadn’t agreed to it or he would be punished by law. Viking women were strong and always ready for battle. In fact, a recent archeological discovery has proved that half the viking warriors were female. The remains found in burial sites were first misidentified and thought to be male skeletons, just because they were buried with swords and shields. But studying osteological signs of gender within the bones, reaserchers discovered that aproximately half the skeletons belonged to women, who were given a proper burial with their weapons.

With that being said, let there be no more of misogyny in the norse pagan community.

Through Time

Prelude

The last memory I have before I was drained of my blood and thrown in a hole to later transform into a creature of the night, was that of battle. My last human memory was of me in a battle against the Englishmen to avenge my father who was slain by these pathetic Christians.

I can vividly remember fighting along side my brothers who were not far off from me and then the battle against the man I was currently fighting against took me farther away from them. I remember defeating the man I was currently and turned to find another opponent while taking a deep breath.

As I took a step back into the foray, I felt a pressure against my stomach and neck, making my mind and body panic.

Did I get taken hostage? Was I to be a pawn to get my brothers to surrender? Was I to die?

These thoughts had ran threw my mind as everything started to blur around me and wind brushed past my face with a feeling of me being carried. But the world was moving too fast to be running at a human pace.

Human.

I can remember a man, who I later learned was Farius, coming to a halt in a clearing that was miles from the battle as he quickly took my weapons and tossed them somewhere into the forest. As I stumbled over my feet, I turned my head to and fro looking for the person or thing that took me. I finally found my feet as I turned my body this way and that to try and see this person that dare take me from the battle.

"Whose there?!?" I yelled in my native tongue before switching to the English language that my father made me learn. "Show yourself!!" A brush of something grazed my side, making my body turn with the action. "Show yourself!!! You coward!" I yelled into the wind as it seemed to brush against me again.

My breathing picked up as I felt myself begin to panic more. I did not like the feeling I was getting as the situation continued.

"Do you fear death?" I heard a voice speak from behind me causing me to spin around and come face to face with a man. He was pale and eyes were striking as he stared into my eyes. His hands were folded in front of his body while his posture was perfect. He tilted his head at me as I just stared at him. "Do you?"

My eyes widened as I realized he was speaking Norse. I stumbled back as he moved closer. He only took a step but his movements were almost too fast for me to catch.

"Do you?" He asked again. I kept eye contact as I shook my head slowly. I'm assuming I answered correctly because in the next moment he was grinning showing off his canines.

The next moments become blurry as he lunged at me making me flinch as he gripped the back of my head and held my body in a steel hold. "You will be a lovely vampire." He spoke so softly I barely caught what he said. I tried to struggle but his hold was too strong.

In the next moment a pain erupted from my neck and my body slowed down and became heavy. In the haze of my blood being drained from my body, I felt something slide down my throat and I swallowed without realizing it.

This started the beginning of my immortal life.
