Hopey McHope

@hopeymchope / hopeymchope.tumblr.com

Hello, I'm "HopeyMcHope" on AO3 and FanFiction.net, and this is my main blog in which I mainly post Danganronpa stuff! Expect to see lots of DR art (especially Naegiri), my (rare, at this point) fanfics, whatever Asks float my way, and plenty of DR theorizing/obsessing/analyzing. But since this is my main Tumblr, there's random doses of other stuff sometimes tossed in here as well. That might be some blather about whatever video games or movies are on my mind, art reblogs for other anime/franchises I've fallen in love with, etc. And speaking of other anime? My side gig is running @yunoteru4ever, a Tumblr for weirdos hopelessly fixated on Future Diary/Mirai Nikki and/or Sakae Esuno's works in general.

Just your standard tumblr blog manifesto

Hi! Whether you’re new to my dumb corner of Tumblr or a longer-term follower who just hasn’t particularly noticed (or cared) how I’m doing my thing here, I thought I should sum up my basic principles for this blog in a (somewhat?) useful fashion.  1) I try to always post spoiler tags for EVERY piece of official Danganronpa fiction before discussing any spoilery info OR sharing spoilery artwork. Why? Because it only takes a second to tag posts for people, and you never know who is new to the fandom/hasn’t gotten around to everything yet/is trying to still remain pure on certain subjects. For your spoiler-blocking needs, the tags for each are as follows:

  • Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (game/anime/manga) — #dr1 spoilers
  • Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (game) — #dr2 spoilers
  • Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls (game/manga) — #drae spoilers
  • Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak Academy/High School (anime) — #dr3 spoilers
  • Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony (game) — #drv3 spoilers
  • Ultimate Talent Development Plan (AU mode/sub-game within V3) — #utdp spoilers
  • Danganronpa Zero (light novels) — #dr0 spoilers
  • Danganronpa IF light novel — #drif spoilers
  • Ultra Despair Hagakure light novel  — #udh spoilers
  • Danganronpa Kirigiri light novels — #drk spoilers
  • Danganronpa Togami light novels  — #drt spoilers
  • Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp (game) — #drs spoilers

2) I reblog (and occasionally even do original posts of) A LOOOOT of fan art here, but I make it a point to only share things either posted by the original artist OR which are shared with the permission of the artist. I had it impressed upon me earlier in my Tumblr career that some artists legitimately don’t want their stuff shared on other sites without permission, and I try to always respect that. (And yes, I realize that just saying “permission obtained from the artist” or something is HARDLY a foolproof system. We’re on the honor system here; we can only assume such disclaimers are honest.) If you catch me sharing art that is copied or posted by someone other than the artist without any expressed permission, please let me know — I’ll take it down!

3) I’ll almost always respond to asks submitted to me, but I’m sorry if it takes a while. I’m typically WAAAAY behind on such things. Sometimes it takes me a few days or even, rarely, weeks. Sometimes I just don’t know what to say at first. But sometimes I’ll respond ASAP because the ask is easy to answer or just ignites a bunch of thoughts within me. Or on rare occasions I’ll, uh, never answer because I couldn’t think of anything to really say (sorry?) or because the ask is basically just a troll.

4) I sometimes post asks/commentary that are very critical of certain characters as people (as in, not criticizing them as fictional characters or how they were written; criticizing their behavior as good/bad people). If you don’t like seeing your faves harshed on, I tag those criticism/negativity-centric posts for easy blocking, too! So feel free to block tags like #anti-kokichi ouma or #anti-hiyoko saionji or whomever. (But let’s be honest; Those are the two most common ones.)

5) This Tumblr originated as a Naegiri-focused one, actually. That’s not something that comes up too terribly often these days, but.. you can definitely still expect me to heap extra attention on any Naegiri-centric content I come across (or, in rare instances, create myself). :) So... that’s just a heads-up.  6) If you came across this user handle elsewhere and are wondering if this blog is run by the same person, I can only confirm that the Hopey McHope on AO3 and the HopeyMcHope on FF.net are, in fact, me. Anyone else you see by this name might be the same person as me, or it might not. I guess you should just ask me here.

7) If I blocked you... I probably assumed you’re a bot. If you don’t have ANY posts or ANY reblogs or ANY profile pic or ANY heading wallpaper? I have to assume you’re a bot; it’s a problem around here. If you’re not a bot, please do something, anything to make your account look like a real person’s. Say two words on your blog, change your blog title to be ANYTHING else, give yourself a profile pic or even a header image that ISN’T the default... just, anything

Known rapist, sex trafficker, and self-proclaimed "alpha" Andrew Tate announes that men having sex with women is now "gay."

The only REAL men are those with tons of children. (And per his previous statements, it's also imperative that these REAL men don't financially or emotionally support any of these children.)

This level of being up one's own ass is so far beyond parody that it's one of the funniest fucking things I've seen in years.

Bitch, your so-called "genetic legacy" is gonna be disowning and denying any relation to you for centuries to come. Your primary "legacy" will be the standing pool of urine atop your grave.

One thing in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom that always baffled me was why couldn't you just sell your weak weapons that you didn't want anymore? Would've been a great way to clear out your inventory space and make some cash at the same time, especially since Rupees can no longer be found by cutting grass or smashing pots anymore. Plus I'm sure Kakariko and Hateno Village would have really appreciated a low-cost supply of weapons to guard against the occasional monster attack.

That seems like a smart, low-risk way to help counter the breakable weapons. I suppose Totk came up with its own solution by making durability last longer via fusion and giving just REAMS of stuff we can fuse, but... I like your solution better, frankly.

Not only do I want to sell them my old weapons, I want to be able to BUY higher-end weapons instead of having to go hunting for them, too!

Just sharing an opinion but why is it that every bro character in the persona series always has a good English voice

Seriously max mittleman and Yuri lowenthal were fantastic as their respective roles

And both Vic mignogna and Zeno Robinson did fantastic as junpei

(I personally prefer zenos take on junpei btw)

Even going back to the psp version of innocent sin if you take away the audio issues Troy baker was solid as Eikichi

I know you don’t play these games for the acting but what do you think

Avatar

Honestly, I think the English VAs do a pretty excellent job almost across the board. There really is something endearing about the voices of Junpei, Yosuke, and Ryuji... and they're not the only ones, either. Though I guess I'd put Junpei at the bottom of that pile just because he's so antagonistic towards our player character during the early game that of course I needed more time to warm up to him.

I'd probably even say the same thing about the warmth I feel/hear in the voices of Michell Ruff's Yukari, Erin Fitzgerald's Chie, and Erika Halacher's Ann... but again, Yukari is probably the hardest of those to immediately feel cozy about.

I didn't play a ton of Innocent Sin, but I do remember Eikichi how sounded and acted perfectly ridiculous to match his character, so... not quite the same "warm and fuzzy feeling instilled" vibe, but still a very *appropriate* vibe. :P

Kotaku lists Danganronpa 3 as one of the "17 Best Video Game Movies and Shows"

And I love to see that! ......... Though I do not love its writeup, sadly.

The author of its particular entry, Kenneth Shepard, says:

This will be a controversial pick in the eyes of some Danganronpa fans, but I will die on the hill that Danganronpa 3 is criminally underrated, overcriticized (though rightfully divisive), and has some of the most interesting interpretations of the murder mystery series’ themes that Spike Chunsoft has ever put to paper.

And THAT much is great!

.................but then he goes on to drop disses on the DR Wiki (linking to major spoilers without any warning while declaring the Fandom Wikia's purported info about the DR3 mastermind to be "factually incorrect" — a claim that's not without basis but is also very debatable), the English dub (I'd trade MULTIPLE body parts to see Internet weebs stop bitching about dubs in ways that reveal how little they comprehend what goes into them), and even declares that the show makes Ultra Despair Girls retroactively pointless/meaningless (WTF are you even fucking talking about), so uh... this is sort of a "YAY, someone else has publically appreciated the value/importance of DR3!" post combined with me saying "If you legitimately like it that much, maybe stop talking before you add a bunch of weird negative caveats."

Saw the following comment on a WatchMojo countdown of Top 10 Worst Things to Happen to Link in the Legend of Zelda series. You think it's accurate?

The worst thing to happen to Link was Zelda taking his house after BOTW

Avatar

I'd say that the list WatchMojo provided definitely contains multiple things that are worse than having his house taken out from under him. SUCH AS: Having his arm chopped off in TotK, being forcibly transformed into a Deku Scrub in Marjora's Mask, failing to protect Hyrule 100 years earlier in BoTW, seeing everyone he came to care about on Koholint cease to exist in Link's Awakening, and literally dying in one of the canonical OoT endings. :P Admittedly, I just listed things that happened to four different Links, so it's not one person actually endured all that torment.

HOWEVER... ! I want to take this opportunity to submit my latest findings RE: Link's housing situation at the start of TotK.

I've previously written about how irritated I was that he lost his own house in TotK — and I established that the evidence indicates he isn't living with Zelda in the same house, either. But the fact remains the narrative makes it clear that he's still close to her side pretty much all the time. In which case: Where is he sleeping? Where does he live? I figured he had to be somewhere in Hateno Village in order to remain nearby... and I believe I have my answer.

If you cross the bridge right in front of what is now Zelda's house, you soon come across...

...these two modular houses, just over the nearest hill.

In Hateno Village (well… in any occupied village), you normally can't enter any building that isn't currently lived in or being used by some character. You'll see them come and go on various days or times of day, confirming where they live/work. We can enter the left-side house shown here... and sure enough, that house is where Medda lives.

What about the house on the right? Anybody living there?

Once again, we can go right inside. There's a single-person bed and some books here, but not much else. What's really interesting is that, no matter how long I waited? Nobody ever came into or even near this house's entrance.

I think you understand what I'm insinuating: I believe that Link moved to this modular house, one of the two nearest structures to what is now Zelda's residence. It's clearly occupied by somebody (because we can walk right into it), but nobody ever enters except for us. There's a single bed in here for one person. Sure, it looks spartan, but so did our original BotW house before we added more personal touches. It's a shame we can't find those same personal touches in this modular home, though. If this house contained some weapon display frames, that'd REALLY take my theory's evidence over the top.

Even if I'm right, there are still plenty gaps to fill in. Did Link gift his house to Zelda to provide her comfort in exchange for her buying the nearest modular home as a guard station for him? Does he think this house is a piece of crap, and that's why he can buy and arrange a new one in TotK? Draw your own conclusions, I suppose.

It makes me kind of sad when I see people being super ashamed of the person they used to be when they were younger. Obligatory it’s different if you were a Nazi or something but I see so many posts on the internet that are like “eughghheugh don’t remind me that I used to be into [interest that has been deemed cringe] 🤢”

Dude it’s okay. No one cares. You were like 15, and you were having fun. I’m glad you had fun.

I hate the entire idea of a simple hobby / interest being deemed "cringe."

We are lucky to find any source of joy at any age. So long as you aren't hurting anyone else, just enjoy everything that you can and remove all shame from the equation.
