“Gotcha!” Eddie yelled, bounding back into the room, but there was no one to be found. Unbeknownst to him, Chrissy watched him through her one-way mirror, transfixed by this man who hadn’t run, had returned. It was unlike anything she’d experienced from these eligible bachelors before.
Eddie approached the glass, knocking gently. “Chrissy…Chrissy, wake up. I don’t like this…” he sing-songed, his voice soft and teasing but there was an underlying sincerity to it.
Eddie’s gaze never left hers, and Chrissy suddenly felt self-conscious, wondering if he could see the pig nose and ears she hid from the rest of the world. She tugged her strawberry blonde hair, pressing her face into her crossed arms on the mantle.
Eddie gently rubbed his lip, slowly backing away. Just as he was at the door, Chrissy asked, “Will you be back tomorrow?”
A loud clap and Eddie was pointing triumphantly at the mirror. “I knew it! I knew you were hiding there!”
Chrissy bit her lip, her smile tentative as she awaited his answer.
“Yeah, I’ll be back tomorrow.”
