I’m very proud to share that The Marquisate’s Gambit is now complete!

Spanning just shy of 76 thousand words, it tells the story of the early years of Hubert and Bernadetta’s marriage. Though the light of a glorious new dawn shines over Adrestia, House Vestra must still contend with the threat that lurks in its shadows. Working side by side, the newlyweds aim to carve a new history for House Vestra, and eradicate Those Who Slither in the Dark.

something something hubert relying on his intimidating looks but also being secretly really insecure about how often he’s told he’s ‘grotesque’ and terrifying. something something hubert responding ‘that is what’s most important’ when bernie tells him he’s a lot less scary to her now. something something bernadetta’s trust changing something so deeply rooted in hubert’s psyche for the better. something something maybe there will come a day when he will be able to let go and embrace gentleness towards himself.

I love "i would kill for you" ship dynamics but what about "i would stop killing" ship dynamic??

I would lay down my sword for you. I would change my nature and go against everything i've known. I would resist the easy way out of solving my problems. I would give up the adrenaline of battle to stay by your side and make tea instead. I'm not sure I know who I am without a weapon in my hand because I've had to fight for so long but for you I'm willing to try and figure this out.

It must be hard. To put down your weapon that's protected you for so long. It's allowed you to stay alive it's kept you from getting hurt--physically and mentally. Because you've never had to worry about a real relationship if you think you'll be dead at the next battle. And you feel naked without it and it feels like you're ripping off an extension of yourself. Are you even whole without it? Are you worthy of being loved if you can't prove it by risking your life? And yet they've found someone who's asking them for something much harder than dying in battle on their behalf. They've found someone who wants them to live. And that's much more terrifying.

Moonflower: Volume One out today!

I am thrilled to share that Volume 1 of Moonflower releases today! This is a 65-page, 14k anthology of three new hubernie works. 100% of the proceeds will go towards the charity Care For Gaza. I am asking a minimum of 2 dollars, but if you feel so inclined, feel free to spend more--it's 100% for charity!

Not sure whether it's right for you? Here's some more info: Moonflower is solely Hubert/Bernadetta, with no OT3s or side ships. It is rated T, for brief canon typical violence, brief mentions of canon child abuse, and occasional sexual themes. I would rate this PG-13, if it were a movie.

This is probably, in my years a Hubert fan, my favorite lore I have crafted for him… The idea that the brooch he wears in the war phase is a piece of obsidian, an artifact of House Vestra. It’s meant to be affixed over the neck, a reminder that each breath is for the Emperor. However, it’s been cut in half. There’s a match; any Vestra whose spouse is willing to sink into shadow with them is given the other half. It’s a second reminder; each heartbeat is best shared with a partner.
